I'm thinking of applying for a job at a local small time electronics corp that makes things like ham radios.
Can anyone give me any advice on either? Does anyone know of any good sites with examples and formatting for each?
BTW, I'm also thinking of doing some co-op work later. Anyone got any advice on that?
And can we keep the proofreading jokes to a min. I'm not retarded, I'm fully aware that I'll need like five people to proof it before I send it back in.

Just put in resumes or cover letters and you'll get thousands of sites. Each with samples.
I don't think you should get a job. It sounded like your schedual is really hellish this semester, and you've already had one freakout. Getting good grades is the the key to your first job. When companies collect resumes from kids graduating college they are sorted by gpa, and the kids with the high gpas get all the interviews. If you have the option of not working during the year, don't work.

In my experience, cover letters start out with a little paragraph that says "I hope this letter finds you well. I'm applying for [insert job position here]".
The next paragraph explains how much knowledge you have in things pertaining to the job [computer skills, etc].

I usually put my contact information [name/address/phone numbers/email address] at the top of the letter and on top of the resume.
Cover letters and resume's aren't really a huge thing in the design industry (portfolio is everything) so I can't really help you out too much. But keep it to one page, two if you absolutely have no room to squeeze everything on the first. Employers don't typically like to read novels on you. They'll glance at it to check out what you're about and that's it. Short and sweet.
My cover letters usually start off with a witty story. Of course I apply for writing positions so my tactic would probably fail for you. But if you want to write a very basic cover letter:
Intro to why you're applying for the position as well as your education
Your working experience
What you can bring to the company
Thank you paragraph
yeah, I've been told that on average they give it about a 20 second look through.
