Yup.
Finished my interview with DC Direct. Talked about my portfolio and they liked it. Seems like they were impressed. I used all the programs they use, showed that I can work under tight deadlines and some of my handy prototype work. They talked about the job such as taking pictures of figurines/statues, making COA and stickers for the collectibles, catalogues, ads, posters and whatever else having to do with 2D stuff.
Just waiting to hear from them now. Dont know if I was the first person that they interviewed and how long it will be before they contact me back. I even more interested in this job.
Just curious. After every interview, I send out a Thank You letter. Is it common to get a response back from it? Usually I dont and I never hear from them again. Could this be a sign?
Heard back from them..heres what they said
Theres another DC posting. I applied for that as well. We'll see how that goes. Damn, I so wanted this position.Quote:

Again, thank you for your interest and we wish you great success in the future.
Thank you,
Can't win 'em all. I went on 12 or 13 interviews before I found my job. Job search blows, especially if you're fresh out of college.
You just can't get in line for exactly what you're looking for. I think the worst is when they decide to give you a position thats actually worse then what they advertised.
I feel for yah Bandit, I'm going through the same type of job search process as you are. Good luck with this other position at DC.
Yep. I know a lot of designers who couldn't get a job for the first 10 times. Just keep trying. Also try to get some freelance gigs. Just remember to get half upfront, a quarter if it is substancial (and get paid another quarter when you've given him something solid to grasp). It's hard being a freelance though because you have to deal with stupid shit.
It sucks bandit but I know you'll be able to find work if you keep at it. Don't forget to phone, don't just send an e-mail. At my current job I phoned once, sometimes twice a week and wouldn't accept not knowing either way. Eventually I found out the designer they hired instead of me was an idiot and they decided to bring me in. And now I have an awesome design job. I get paid for over time! That's fucking rare. So keep yourself on their radar.
He asked to see some design work. I had put about 30 minutes in to this so far so nothing was rendered.
I designed this logo for a web media company. Anyway, he wanted a kind of bird or something. What he gave me was the long elongated render of a bird looking thing. You can see it in the word Striker in the stack of type to the left. I worked with it to try and make it more bird-like. I didn't like it so decided to render my own bird and took a crack at it. Not my best work, but he said he didn't like it to be so graphical and literal. Then he told me he was going with this instead:
I haven't spoken to him again much and told him we were never going to agree. I also told him his new logo was shit and he wouldn't get any work out of it. He's a web "designer" and his logo says nothing about his ability other than that he can't design for shit. He wanted me to be a worker and be credited on the site. I told him if he ever mentioned me in the same context as his company I'd have serious issues to iron out with him. Long story short be careful who you work with because a lot of people will talk a big game then try to pigeon hole you in to designing tacky ass shit that serves only to bring you down.
Oh and he wanted his money back. He asked to see my very early mock-ups and he went another route instead. I don't have a problem with that, but I put the work in and he wasn't ever going to see that money again. Instead he did it himself and subsequentally hasn't sold any jobs since -- just like I told him. He also can't put that logo on a business card without it being hard to read. There's more to designing a logo than most people think. Anyway, I just laugh now when hillbillies try to tell me what to do and tell them to let me do my job.
There's a lot of shitty designers man. if you're half decent and persistent (FOLLOW UP WITH PHONE CALLS MAN! It works. It keeps you on their radar) you'll find a job sooner or later.
