If you can't find Chimay, you're not shopping in the right place. Even the grocery store I frequent has at least one of their beers on hand at all times. Can't go wrong with any of them. You'll pay, but it'll be worth it.
Waiting for some checks to get deposited, then I think I'll help myself to some. The house is currently beerless, I could use something nice.
Like I said in the last TNL Pub thread. I have my beer for the week, but I will be all over this next week.

My suggestion for the thread. People sign up to join. In order of joining they can recommend one beverage per week. Either beer, wine or a liquor. If a selection is not available in your area, too expensive or otherwise doesn't appeal simply opt out that week.

Just tried this at lunch yesterday (it's great to work and not give a shit for a week) good Belgium taste to it.
I'm headed to beltway fine wines to pick up some of this and Haoh's Lagunitas.
Trader Joe's always have some Chimay in stock, everywhere else it's a crap shoot. I'll second the Fat Tire recommendation as well. I just finished up my 24pk of it yesterday, have to go buy another.
What vintage should I be looking for for the Susana Balbo? The liquor store had a 2001 and a review from some wine journal that said good things, but also said to drink by 2004.
I wouldn't go any older than 2002.

I though we were going to select 1 beer a week, and there have already been at least 15 mentioned. I have no idea how readily available it would be, especially after Catrina, but Dixie Crimson Voodoo Ale is really good. I was shocked at how tasty it was, and the label is pretty cool to boot.
Chimay Cinq Cents is easily the best "everyday" Chimay. Badass beer. I'll never lose my hardon for it. ATM I am working as Beer Dude for the worlds largest beer emporium (liquor store). Try Rochefort. It's fucking pimp.

I guess this thread is supposed to be about beer and wine, but anyone who enjoys brandy or cognac owes it to themselves to try Metaxa. It's Greek brandy, and it's fucking awesome. Get the 7 star if you can find it, the 5 star if you can't (I wouldn't bother with the 3 star). The 5 star runs about $20 a fifth.

Stella Artois is delicious. I recently went to a show that had 2 dollar drafts of Stella as the special. Wonderful, non bank-breaking evening.
Next time I have someone get me some beer I'll make sure to request Stella. This past week I tried Anchor Steam, and it is really good--especially out of a glass.
Speaking of which, what is everyone's favorite drinking vessel for drinking beer? I prefer a fluted glass; I guess a typical pilsner glass.

Does the glass shape enhance the flavor? The Anchor Steam seemed to always keep a very slight head (Just on the surface), and it seemed to take a bit of a bitter tinge off that it had when drank out of the bottle.
Anchor Steam is a damn tasty beer. With wine I know the glass is really important for taste, but with beer I have no idea. I just prefer it in the bottle.
I first thought that you wrote "damn nasty beer", which would have made me :(. But I agree, it is damn tasty.
With some beers, I find that the bottle sometimes compliments it; for example, a Corona (I know, a simpleton's beer), where the long, contoured neck makes it so much more delicious for some reason.

Unless someone's reasoning behind drinking wine from a glass is "everyone else does it" or possibly "the bottle's too heavy to lift" the same reasons for pouring a glass of wine exist for pouring a beer. I tried to pick a brewery who seems to have good distribution. Dead Guy is a Maibock style brew that's a great session beer.
The glow in the dark 64oz Jug FTW.
Rogue is a decent brewery, but I don't care much for Dead Guy. They have much better beers in their portfolio.
I'm meeting up with some guys for Halloween; I may just have to try to find some Dead Guy Ale.

Great pick. I'm kind of burned out on a lot of Rogue's offerings, but I still come back to Dead Guy Ale. It was the first of theirs I've ever had, and still probably my favorite... though if I had a pint of Shakespeare Stout in front of me at the time, I might say differently. Nice for Halloween, but better all year!
I've never been to a bar that had it on tap at the time, so I've never seen the handle til now. I want one of those. :(
So, are we gonna make a list of who goes when? Seems like a plan... I want to go next, but I'm still not sure what I'm gonna recommend yet... the "easy to find" part is sticky because of how different every market is.
Currently sipping my first of six Sierra Nevada Pale Ale's. Someone had mentioned it earlier in the thread and it reminded me to pick some up again. I like to make black and tans with it. It really makes a better contrast in body/flavor than the standard Bass/Harp and Guinness imo. Should have picked up a four pack of Co2 Guiness' as well.
