I'm screwed aren't I...

Lately my computer has been having troubles. A few weeks ago it was totally nuked, so I wiped it out and started over. Everything has been fine until yesterday, where it started this thing where it will run for a while, but all of a sudden a box will pop up saying there was a critical error and the system is going to shut down in 60 seconds. I tried running ad aware, and after it found 42 items I told it to quarenteen. It started the process then locked up.
So I thought I'd d/l Spybot. I type in spybot in google, and my brower closed (i'm using firefox). Tried it again, same thing. I go to spybot's webpage through a link, the browser shuts down. I also tried it with Internet Explorer, same thing.
WTF is going on here?

Skynet has become self aware.

My PC came down with a bug that corrupted my antivirus program and blocked some of the functionality of my spyware programs. I think it was some variant of the Beagle/Bagle trojan, but don't bet the farm on it.

Of course, it very well might be a hardware issue, like a faulty power supply or hard drive.

Does your browser usually run fine but crash when you try to visit security sites?

When you say you wiped it out do you mean that you reformatted the disk?

Yeah. We had a power outage while the pc was being used. Afterward, when you started it up, it would go to the "start in safe mode, start using last working configuration, start..." but no matter what option you chose, it would just go back to that same screen. So i did a recovery.

i had a virus on my PC once that had this window pop and say the PS will shut-down(or restart) in 60 second....the thing kept going in a loop...it was so frustrating. try scanning for viruses in safe mode(if you can)....if all fails, i hope you have your shit backedup.

Could be right I guess.
During a power cut once my brother's hard disk broke, but the rest of the computer was fine, so maybe your hard disk is corrupted or damaged which could cause your problems.

Have you got any spare parts you could try out?

You ought to get a surge protector anyway; remember when Jemery had his computer fried?
I got a 4-way one for around $15 in the uk, so in the US they ought to be <$10.
Get a good one like Belkin as they come with a financial guarentee of like $50,000 on them.

I do have a surge protector.
apparently it didn't protect much.

Get a better one.

Also, replace this one. It's useless now.
