This thread isn't about if gay marriage is right or wrong. It is about the history of the issue.
From my perspective, it looks like the debate was constructed by the right to distract the public. Before the last election it was nonissue in my state.
But my experience may not be the same as others. I want to know how this shit went down for everyone else.
Was there some epic battle from gay people for the right to marriage? Were they really asking for civil unions? Did the right use the word "marriage" to get an emotional reaction and keep gay people from getting what they wanted?
What is the truth?
