Official Car News and Discussion Thread

As a pair of squirrels ran across the road a lady slammed on her brakes. The guy behind her did as well, and the woman behind him tapped his car. The van behind her managed to brake, as did I behind him. The guy behind me, however, did not and plowed into my car and drove it into the van. My car still runs, but it isn't pretty and the exhaust hangs down, and now I have a citation for driving too close since I got slammed into the van on top of the other charges.

The lady who initially stopped? She drove off and no one got her license plate. Fucking hell.

Sounds like my problem too. The Police never asked me what happened and just assumed what happened by the way the car was aligned.

The person in the back will be declared at fault 99% of the time when rear ending someone. Doesn't sound right that you were cited by being pushed into another car though.

My friend totalled his car, was declared and fault, and issued a ticket on top of that because the lady in front of him on a freely moving highway stopped dead for no reason. Sometimes the way they resolve these things is just complete BS.

Didn't you just get this car? You've got luck almost as bad as Torgo.

haohmaru, if you want something in-between family car and sports car, might look into the vehicles stormy and I just bought. He got an RX-8, which has pretty good back seats and little suicide doors that give easy access to the rear. The GTO I got has awesome back seat room, though getting to them isn't as easy as the RX-8. They're both good value for the money and decently practical while offering decidedly sporty thrill. RX-8 more for its handling, GTO more for its power. You can get them in the upper $20k range with leather interiors.

The reasoning is if you give the person in front of you enough space, then you can avoid rear ending them no matter what the situation is.

I was on my way to get the real license plates.

I've never seen an RX-8. I'll have to go to the dealer and check it out.

(Edit) After researching the Land Rover, I had no idea that they were THAT bad. I'll pass on that, regardless of how appealing it is looks-wise.

Hopefully the person behind you had insurance right?

And I don't think the lady would really be at fault anyways would she? She stopped, it's everyone's job behind her to watch their asses and not be so close they can't stop. I assume the person that hit you got a citation as well along with hopefully paying for your repairs via insurance (let me guess, not insured)

Update: My plates got dropped off. Whee.

Right now we're just waiting for a statement from the guy in the van I hit. If he says he only felt one hit then I'm in the clear with no problem, I won't have any fault and it'll easy as pie to contest the ticket. I have to admit, due the amount I was spending on the car I was leery of springing the extra for tow and rental on my insurance, but that's looking pretty goddamn awesome right now.
