Retro games?

With all of the retro stuff coming out anymore, are you buying into it?

I've got Street Fighter 2, Doom, and Smash TV on XBLA and would probably have a lot more if it were released. The only thing really nudging me towards getting a Wii is the virtual console, and the Sony announcement about downloadable PS1 games on the PS3 is interesting (although less valuable since everyone will still be able to play PS1 games). Hell, I've even thought about buying that $20 360 controller receiver for the PC when it comes out and trying out Gametap.

Also there's obviously all the anthologies and whatnot that have been coming out for a while, but are really starting to hit hard recently. I'm willing to drop $15 on the Sega Genesis Collection when it comes out just to play Kid Chameleon and Decap Attack.

So are you interested in playing old games all over again?

Hell no. Last retro game I bought was R-Types and have no plans to buy another.

I am interested but at more than $5/game, no thanks. I can pretty much play all the roms I ever need since I built a HTPC and I realize that I much rather play new games than old.

I bought the Capcom Retro collection for the Xbox, which was great in terms of $$/game, but I only played it like 5 times (mostly Forgotten Worlds).

I'll stick with MAME for my retro arcade needs. I don't buy retro stuff at all unless they are enhanced remakes like xbla or maybe the sega classics collection (most of those remakes were garbage but I bought it for the enhanced Space Harrier and Fantasy Zone..well...FZ was enhanced anyways). I'll buy enhanced remakes..for untouched retro games I'll stick with emulators.

I like the concept but the execution is usually lacking.

Certain games are worth it to me on XBLA if they have new features (Doom, SF2 for multiplayer for example). Otherwise I'll stick to emulation or digging out the original copies I still have if I want to play old games. I'd prefer to see more original content on XBLA than paying $5 for Pac-Man or Galaga.

If the Wii virtual console doesn't have online multiplayer, achievements, etc I don't really see the benefit other than not having to have multiple consoles hooked up to play the old games. And for me that convenience isn't worth $5/game.

Yes. I love the fact that they're enhancing these games on XBLA with stuff like integrated online high score lists, online play, enhanced resolution, voice chat, new modes, achievements etc. Frankly, I enjoy them more than the original games on that service.

So far this year I've also bought I also bought Capcom Classics Collection Remixed, Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, Legend of Heroes: Tear of Vermillion and Gradius Collection, and I may pick up the Sega collection too.

I've got no problem paying for classic games, especially if they've been respectfully enhanced. I think these things should always be available the same way classic albums are.

If they would release games that are harder to come by Id totally love it (ie Dracula X, Panzer Saga etc..) but instead they seem to give us stuff like Street Fighter 2 or Sonic that I alreaddy have 3 or 4 versions of on multiple systems.
