Mod Chip Sellers Ordered to Pay $9M in Piracy Case

The Entertainment Software Association announced a "major victory" today in the fight against copyright violations and piracy. A group of mod chip sellers and distributors of the HDLoader software have been penalized over $9 million.

Mod chips and sellers should not be placed at fault here, for fuck's sake. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to reverse-engineer my own hardware. Fuck you, Sony.

This whole case is bullshit, then.

With HD Loader there's not even any "illegal modification" of the console. You just put a hard drive in (Sony's own drive even works) and run the HD Loader disc.
