That stat line would be a great season for most middle INFs, and Lugo will almost assuredly exceed those numbers. He'll likely hit around .300 with 40 doubles, 10 triples, and 30 steals (40 if Francona lets him), which are numbers matching his last two full seasons. His OBP, rbis and runs should spike just because he's playing for Boston and hitting in Fenway. I don't think it's a stretch for him to be near the top of the AL in runs scored. Hence, career year....at least, that's how I see it.
I forgot about Youk - he's perfect batting second.
Good as he is, Lugo doesn't deserve the money he's getting, but no player this off-season does.

A's sign Mike Piazza for 1 year, 8.5M. Best part about this (for me) is that he'll be coming to Shea for a weekend series in June, and he better play. Mets fans can more unabashedly shower love on him since nonrival interleague games just aren't all that intense anyway.
The Mets are in preliminary talks with Mark Mulder's agent. At the right price this guy could be the steal of the free-agent class.
Think what you want of Drew's injuries or personality but on the field he's never sucked. He hasn't had any chronic injuries the last 3 years either. Last year he got hit on the hand, then came back with no after effects and continued to hit. The injury rep is out dated.
I think you'd be bored watching that reality show. Manny issues are rediculously overblown by the media. He's a quiet guy. He's also a head case, but he never causes a scene and his teammates all claim to like him. I think it's the same with Drew. Dodger fans hate him even though he's played very well for them, Penny too. Dodgers are nuts if they trade Penny in this pitching market. He was hurt the second half of the year, give the guy a break don't trade him for 50 cents on the dollar. The Schmidt signing won't make them any better if they trade away thier next best pitcher.
Drew's a douchebag like John Elway, Eric Lindros, and Eli Manning for being "too good" for the team that drafted him. I hope he falls off the Green Monster and breaks his neck.

Phillies traded Gavin Floyd and a player to be named to the White Sox for Freddy Garcia, I was hoping for maybe Buerhle but he collapsed at the end of last year. Aaron Rowand could possibly be on the move as well and the Phils wll look for Jon Lieber to be traded by Thursday. The Phillies are looking for another back-up outfielder and have been in negotiations with Washington for Ryan Church. Jon Lieber is expected to land another outfielder and bullpen arm or possibly two bullpen arms. There was some rumours that Milwakuee would be giving up Derrick Turnbow and Jose Capellan but supposedly talks died out.
If Lieber isn't moved I'm guessing Adam Eaton and him will compete for a rotation spot but I see no reason why the Phillies won't aggressively push Lieber in the market. If he stays the Phillies designed a work-out program that he must follow so he doesn't come back in 2007 way over-weight.
Charlie Manuel is also working with Pat Burrell to help him regain his 2005 form which would eliminate the need for Ryan Howard protection as Burrell is a high potential hitter with what seems like a few mental flaws in his plate approach.
If the Phillies rotation consists of Cole Hamels, Brett Myers, Jamie Moyer, Freddy Garcia and Adam Eaton they should hopefully be set-up for a fresh start this year. They still need bullpen help as they've lost a few guys. They were going to sign Borowski but they didn't like the MRI results on his shoulder and refused to offer him a multi-year contract. I'm afraid that Tom Gordon will break-down by the end of the season again so an insurance closer would be a huge plus but Geary has been given a few nods there.
I don't know how I feel about the Mets trading Bannister away. He was a decent young starter that got injured.
Lugo and Drew are awful signings. Since when is a .340 OBP worth $9 million per?
