Official MLB 2006 Off-season thread

Apparently The Dodgers capped off the day by signing Luis Gonzalez:

Honestly, I really DO NOT like this deal. Luis Gonzalez is always one of those players that I just don't like. Usually I am able to look passed my hatred for a player once they put on the Dodgers uniform, but I don't think I am going to like him on our team. He could surprise me though...hell, I never thought I would get used to Jeff Kent playing for the Dodgers.

Also, I would rather have the young players patrolling the outfield this year. I think Ethier, Loney, and possibly Kemp are all going to be productive hitters this year...so this move doesn't make much sense to me. I guess having Gonzalez is good if the Dodgers get to keep all there top prospects though. The Dodgers are going to have a really deep team next year.

Good move by the Phils...out of all their problems, filling out that rotation was probably the biggest. Phils and Chisox really love making deals it seems.

Apparently the Phils buzz now is Lieber for Turnbow and Kevin Mench.

The Dodgers' history is signing over-the-hill vets, so that's not surprising. They're hoping Gonzo regains some of his former magic, and he'll undoubtedly be a plus in the clubhouse, helping the young hitters.

No way is Lugo worth $9 mill, but that's this ridiculous market for ya. What's he going to do, ask for less? All this aside, he's going to help the Sox a lot more than Drew will.

edit: If the Phils are smart, they won't take Turnbow. He's looking like a one-year wonder.

The Mets-A's buzz has shifted away from Harden to Dan Haren, but the asking price will probably be ridiculous.

lol Jim Leyritz may attempt a comeback. He saw all these horrendous contracts and wants a piece of the pie. Now all we need is good ol' Rickey Henderson to join him in a comeback bid. Why not Jose Canseco while we're at it.

Seems like Octavio Dotel will be a KC Royal for one year/$5 mill.

Barry Bonds and the Giants agree to a 1 year/$16 million contract. Giants did a nice job competing with itself for Barroids services.

Guillermo Mota got caught with performance enhancing drugs and has to serve a 50 day suspension starting next season..so what do the Mets do?? Why give him a 2 year/$5 million contract! crazy

The Yankees are really being aggressive when it comes to courting Andy Pettitte. They will offer him more money than the Astros every could but I think Andy will stay in Houston.

I can't believe what the market has been deduced to this year. The teams handing out all these huge contracts are going to get raped in the end.

I feel bad for the Royals. Gil Meche at 5/$55millon is crazy.

And, COME ON, San Fran! Barry Bonds? If ever there was player who was JUST playing himself, it was him. Yes, I know he's a franchise player. But Jesus.

They need to use it to keep Vernon Wells. I hope they don't end up trading him.
