Cubs sign pitcher Jason Marquis to a 3 year contract. The amount of money is said to be between 20 to 28 million. Marquis was so bad that he wasn't even in the postseason roster for the Cards and he gets a fat 3 year deal.
Cubs are going bananas this offseason.

Reportedly Boston will fail to sign Matsusaka; they won't offer him more than $7-$8 million per year and Boras won't take less than $15 million in this pitching market. Also, the Dodgers are considering filing tampering charges against Boston regarding Epstein allegedly telling J.D. Drew to opt out of the last 3 years of his contract. It's not a good offseason in Beantown.....
I can't believe Boston pulled that shit with Matsusaka, if they were only intending to offer him $7-$8 million they should've know Boras would want more so basically I suppose the rumor they bid on him to keep him off the Yankees may have been true.

As it turns out it was to keep him off the Mets. It was well known in GM circles that Omar was going to outbid the field when Luccino and Epstein decided on their bid; Luccino is determined to keep SNY out of as many markets as possible to protect NESN's value.
This is all going to bite Boston in the ass though, because the next big Japanese player to become available isn't going to want to deal with Boston.

The Dodgers are not filing a tampering charge. I heard the rumor, it was a dumb one. It's not happening, and it never was going to happen. Everyone knew Drew would get more money if he opted out, look at what Soriano and Lee got. I could almost get 3 years $33mil in this market. To say that the Sox would even have to bother to tell him such is rediculous. Boras is his agent! The Dodgers were stupid for putting in an out clause, as it's a no win situation for them. If Drew sucks he stays, and if he does well he leaves for more $$.
No one thinks the Sox are negotiating in bad faith. It's a negotiation, this is how they work, especially when it's with one of the craftiest agents out there. The Sox don't want to pay DM free agent money because he's not a free agent, Boras obviously doesn't want that. We'll see what happens by the deadline. There is a lot of hardball going on now but I still think he signs. The Sox don't give a shit what the Mets do other than the fact that they were another serious bidder for a pitcher the Sox covet. The Sox are doing pretty well this off season. They had a lot of work to do and so far they are making progress to get all the holes filled. The Sox are not having a good offseason for Yankees fans maybe, but for Sox fans is has been so far.
I love the Petit signing btw. The more mediocre pitchers the Yankees waste $16 million on the better.

That said I figured the Sox bid so heavily to block the Yankees, not the Mets. SNY can't even go ahead with all-Mets coverage in fucking New York so I don't see why NESN would give a shit about it.
Pettitte for one year was a great signing for the Yanks.
