Omar and his entourage are returning to NYC without Zito. Supposedly no news is good news, despite what the blogger from last night wrote. Also Tom Hicks denied making a $100 offer. I mean, who would believe he would ludicrously overpay a top free agent, right?

No...but what if the money isn't remotely comparable? If I'm Zito I'm not leaving $20M on the table. And it's pretty obvious Omar isn't gonna let him go over a few million dollars.
I don't believe the Rangers are a serious threat. But the Giants could be - especially since he's already in the Bay area. They're deteriorating though, too. I've read rumblings about the Angels, though, and they're a strong young team that's willing to spend money. They could be a problem.
Keith Law from ESPN says that "Zito will be a Met 100%." Last night's blogger promises new info tonight. Boras has got to be dying to drag this out though...but maybe Zito will override him and tell him to get this done, now.
I'm still terrified the Yanks will come in and fuck us, even though they have a full rotation now with Igawa. I would seriously have to take a day off of work if that happened.
So this what the range on Zito looks like:
Mets: $78.5M for 5 years, 6th year option
Rangers: $75M for 5 years, no 6th year option
Mariners: Preliminary talks in the same range
Giants: No offer made
This is great news for the Mets, because you have to think that money not being a factor, they're the best fit for Zito and it isn't really close. I think Boras was hoping for a sky-high offer, but he doesn't seem to be getting it, and frankly, getting (seemingly) raped on Dice-K may have hurt his bargaining position. I think Omar is holding out the sixth year to drive to an agreement if necessary, but if he can really get this done for 5/80 that's a great great job.
