I agree that Boras is playing the game, however, moving Johnson (who is a friend of Clemens) means that they are targeting a replacement.
Steinbrenner ruined his farm team, they have nobody to trade. They have to buy talent. Met's will not get Zito over the Yankees, much like me calling St. Louis, the Met's have nothing to stand on if it comes to money.

The Mets value Zito more highly than the Yanks. If the Yanks (doubt it) or any other team (possibly) rolls in with a ridiculous nine digit offer, then they'll sign him over the Mets. Not because the Mets can't afford it (they actually have plenty of money and more on the way) but because they're not run by retarded spendthrifts.
The Yanks actually have a pretty decent farm now after restocking this offseason. Nothing spectacular, but the "Yanks have no prospects and will spend for anyone" argument expired two years ago.
Name me one team with a more depleted lower level system. They can't afford to trade the few they have because there is nothing behind the little 5-7 viable guys in AAA and AA.Quote:

Various Farm league boys haven't shown they have what it takes, I'm wondering which one turns into the next Todd Van Popple.
I called their rotation solid, not strong. "Various farm league boys" can't show they have what it takes until they get a shot, and to the extent that they got a shot last year, Karstens and Rasner looked very promising, and Hughes projects even better. Zito has historically sucked in Yankee Stadium and against Boston. Clemens is a better fit for a year and leaves the Yanks ready to sign Zambrano.
The Sox probably have a worse farm than the Yanks. Marlins too, but that's because they promoted everyone of value.

I'd also like to take this post to express how FUCKING RIDICULOUS I think this Barry Bonds witchhunt is becoming. While I think he's a dick of a human being and his baseball legacy has certainly been thrown into question, I cannot understand why the government is spending so much time and effort to indict him. He didn't hurt anyone but himself, and I don't see what additional good dragging him in front of a grand jury will do. Are we going to indict everybody on the list, or just the guys who are pursuing home run records and are mean to reporters?
