He was dead before you were born. Enjoyment has nothing to do with anything. His stats give no room to argue that anyone else was better.
Batting average? LOL
Ty Cobb was the iconic player of the dead ball era, but there is no way you can compare the impact he had on the game to Ruth's. And there were other hitters (Williams) and all-around players (Mays) who were better.
Confirmed.
You could also probably add Honus Wagner to the list of people better than Cobb.
Gohron also thought that Aaron Rowand was better than Carlos Beltran. So I just think he rates players on their likelihood to run into things and be involved in injuries.
Yanks and 1st baseman Doug Mientkiewicz agree to a one year deal pending physical results. Doug was with the Mets and was all glove, didn't hit for shit in the second half of 2005 and was barely used by Willie Randolph around the end. After the season Doug opened his yap and crapped on the Mets organization and threatened to quit if the Mets picked up his option.
Mark Loretta will sign with the Astros for one year/$2.5 million. Not sure where Houston will put him but he's a fine player.
Keith Foulke signs with the Indians for one year/$5 million + incentive with an option year.
