Well, think of this. If you put modern players like Albert Pujols or Ryan Howard against Babe Ruth you'd have a pretty comparable group of ballplayers, who would you put Ty Cobb against? He easily made up for his lack of power with his speed and ability to swipe bases at ease.
You can stand by that if you're OK with being empirically wrong.

Because HR's wern't considered to be a big part of the game back then. As I said before, Cobb proved in 1925 that he could easily hit HR's if he wanted to but preferred his way of playing. Ruth definately had a bigger impact on the game but Cobb was a far better athlete then Ruth was no matter which you put it. Ruth also had a better offense to work with.
LAWL Ruth was probably 3 times the athelete that Cobb was.
The FACT is that Ruth hit more homeruns than entire teams. You countered with "home runs were not a big deal" what the hell kind of logic is that? If they were not a "BIG DEAL" they why did Ruth save the game?
