So there are a select few of us who were insane enough to pre-order a PS3. Whether you waited in line since the wee hours of the morning or walked up minutes before opening, there is still a chance that we wont be getting one even with the reservation.
I'm interested in seeing how many people here actually lost their minds and reserved one, and of those that did, how many are planning on keeping it or is it going straight to ebay.
Why the hell do we need yet another thread on this topic?
If all goes as planned, my PS3 will be buying my Wii for me.
We might keep it. If there is a launch title we want to play, it stays. If there is not, it goes.
I'd like to think we are guarenteed one because I was first in line, but who knows these days.
I think the launch list is pretty much dialed in already. Can't you figure out if you want to play any of them or not?
I bought one to eBay, hoping that it brings in enough cash to net me a Wii and/or a PS3. I want to play Resistance, but I can't justify a $715 game.

I'll be camping out the night before at Target. We had fun last year overnight with the 360 launch. But mine is going straight to eBay, no way I'm going to miss out on all that extra eBay cash. Hopefully the profits will pay for a Wii and a game or two.

I wasn't rich when the PS2, Xbox or GC came out. I had the opportunity to profit from it but I think it is wrong to take advantage of parents who just want to buy their kids what they want for Xmas.
When I bought my extra X360 last year I later sold it on Ebay with a buy now of the retail cost + ebay fees.

The ones that are really losing money are the retailers. Sony can't
really markup the ps3 too much because people would give them more guff than they already are for $600. Stores like EB and GS and even TRU and Target should all mark them up like 200 over MSRP and pocket the cash themselves.

The problem is that most of the rich assholes who will spend $1000+ on eBay are not willing to wait in line for 12+ hours to get a MSRP system for sure at launch. So they end up paying someone like myself who is willing to sit in line for them. I remember one guy buying a dude's space in line last year at the 360 launch. He walked up half an hour before the store opened and paid the guy who was waiting in line all night $150 for his spot.Quote:

I doubt that any of the hardware will be defective straight out of the box. MS does system tests on all 360's leaving the factory, and I'm sure Sony does the same.

I think if you buy it and hold on to it for a few weeks and ebay it in the week before Xmas, you might get more than $1500 for it. Rich parents are stupid when it comes to spending $$ for their kids.

Nobody is being cheated. Just buy one for $1000+ on Ebay. Or do what everyone else will be doing and buy a 360 and/or Wii to tide you over.
Just because they test every one of them doesn't mean that after transport they won't be defective. Even then, such a test would be very quick...how else are you going to test such a large number of units, even with sophisticated setups?
Actually, I've already got a 360 and am planning on a Wii because I like the game selection better. These aren't consoles gotten to make the wait for Sony to save the day easier, they're worth owning in their own right.Quote:

See, this is why I'm waiting until early next year to get mine. I'm broke as fuck right now, there will be hardware units in the stores (possibly/hopefully with launch hardware kinks worked out) as opposed to resorting to buying one on ebay for an insanely fucking marked up cost, and the good games are gonna start dropping after christmas anyway.
I still think the demand outstrip supply by a big margin, so I don't think it is risky at all considering that it should not be hard to sell it at cost ($600 + tax + shipping) even after Xmas because of Sony inability to make more consoles. I think people will pay crazy prices on ebay for the PS3, I just can't understand how even the average middle class person can come up that kind of money (well maybe because it's the holidays and people get extra money). I mean I have a full-time job and make decent money, but dropping about $1,000 (with mem card/extra controller/extended warranty/games) on a launch system is so crazy, I mean part of me says the gaming industry has lost its mind, esp when you got house payments etc...That's a huge chunk of change...+ there are so many this-gen games I need to finish, I am gonna have to hold off for a while until I can afford one...
It kinda makes me sad that gaming has gotten to this level that people who love the medium can't really afford it (imagine being in high school or younger and being like, hey mom, can I have 1G to get a game system?)
Honestly, I more looking at the Wii simply because I can afford it...if I get the PS3 right now, I won't have money to buy anything for months...so I will have to live vicariously through everyone else for now...
How about if instead you look at the difference in cost and say "Well maybe I'll get a Wii instead", but what's actually good? May I suggest Zboz?

My guess? First day presales are allowed on ebay again, there will be pages apon pages of sales for the all those ps3's people camped out for. People will bid on them for the retarded prices.
Next day more will go up, but the undercutting will start, and people will then start dropping thier previous bids for the cheaper ones. repeating till launch day, till most of those sellers end up with 20 bucks profit and a huge loss of sleep.
As for xmas sales, most people will have bought thier system for thier almost retail undercut price on ebay next month. I know some people that tried to hold out thier 360's for xmas and it didnt work out at all.
Your best luck is getting a buy it now and having it payed for on the first day of presales on ebay for crazy profit.
