Check out the sick tree dive followed immediately by me climbing on some dudes (in the white shirt)
Saw them already a week or 2 ago in Cleveland.
Video games live on Friday. TOMMY MOTHERFUCKING TALLARICO bitches.
You're out of your mind. There's so many great venues here.
Maybe shit's changed in the recent years (and I know it has to some extent), but I remember like a handful of good clubs/bars (Khyber, etc), and then some medium-sized venues like the the Troc, the Electric Factory, etc, and then bands playing in like churches or bullshit venues because there weren't a lot of solid 21+ venues that booked bands and stayed open late. Like there was more demand than was being filled.
Or maybe I and everyone I knew were oblivious back then, I dunno. Since I moved I've only been back to Philly for shows a few times.
This summer has been great for concerts.
Grady (free), The Tragically Hip, STP (free), The Arkells (free), Ice Cube (free), Incubus (cheap), Eagles of Death Metal, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains in one summer. It's rumored Ben Harper will be opening for Pearl Jam with his new band, too. Chains will be the show, though. They're playing the opera house up here in Toronto which is like 1,000 people max capacity and I was able to grab 4 tickets. Should be amazing.
If you're referring to the first Unitarian, you're horrible mistaken because it's easily the best venue in the city. For the past 8 years or more r5 has turned Philly into one of the absolute best cities to see live music, period. They have shows at the first Unitarian church (which contains 3 separate spaces: the basement for medium shows, the chapel for tiny intimate shows and the sanctuary for extra special shows), Large troc-sized shows at the Starlight ballroom, and smaller 21+ shows at various bars like Johnny Brendas, Kung Fu Necktie and the Barbary. 100% DIY. It's really amazing.
And this is ignoring the Troc, the Electric Factory, the TLA, World Cafe Live, and everything else.
