modafinil

Anyone tried this?

I read that the UK military are testing it on their troops, and the drug sounded pretty interesting. Modafinil is known on the drug scene as "zombies" because:

As a student, I'm always on the lookout for a good 'cramming-drug' for those late nights upto a deadline.

There might no be direct side effects directly caused by the drug, but staying awake for days will certainly have a large effect.

yeah definitely. staying awake like that = bad.

I predict many WoW related deaths when this hits market.

What I find interesting is that the testing uses for the drug span so many different types of diseases and disorders. While it may be beneficial to use for medicinal purposes, I could never see myself taking this drug for any recreational purpose. Staying up for 48+ hours is no fun no matter what drug you're on, plus like Mman said, there are profound health risks related to forcing your body to function for that long without any rest.

If you don't sleep, certain chemicals arn't produced in your brain and while you may be able to get stuff done, I do believe that you may become temporarily insane to a point the longer you go without sleep.

People die without sleep. Some condition that kept a man from sleeping (who didn't have health care access) died after being awake for 11 days, the lack of sleep was listed as his main cause of death.

I would never fuck with my sleep cycle like that. I don't even like taking in caffeine from soda at night.

it doesn't take that long to go insane from sleep deprivation, does it? i can't remember if after a certain point the damage becomes permanent or not, but still. this drug seems very dangerous for mental health. i don't like taking any drugs that mess with my sleep, even just nyquil or caffeine pills.

'Fake sleep' terrifies me. I had bad sleep problems before (they still suck) but refused to go on any kind of prescription sleep aid. On the other hand, it is -hilarious- interacting with people who have taken Ambien but aren't asleep yet. Experienced that over the weekend and it was just absurd how far gone those people can get if they don't fall asleep when they're supposed to. The stuff I take for my migraines makes me fall asleep sometimes, but when I wake up hours later I just feel more tired. It sucks.

Rozerem is a lot safer than anything to induce sleep out there since it's chemically way different than Ambien/Lunesta/etc, but still, I wouldn't fuck with it. Shit to keep you awake is even more dangerous. Sleepiness is your body's way of telling you to fucking stop being active, probably not a good idea to ignore that.

yeah. a few years ago, i took a little bit of nyquil like four nights in a row to help me fall asleep (i don't even think i took a full dose). well, by the fourth day i was falling asleep behind the wheel of my car and i was all kinds of screwed up. so that was the end of me taking nyquil. a lot of meds that help people fall asleep disrupt rem, and that's a very bad thing. i don't want to mess with that.
