Uh, no, in theory the three party system is an excellent ruling authority. Until those pesky humans get involved.

Worse how? I fail to see how labor clout is any more nefarious than corporate clout. In fact, part of the article's point (and this isn't just pointed out here) is that corporate interests have a stranglehold on both parties. The power of the labor movement has dwindled to next to nothing, which is truly a shame.
Nope, nothing like that. We can't recall politicians on the federal level, but I agree that we should be able to.
Three party? Uh, what? I assume you mean the three branches of government and the separation of powers. If so, I would say that introducing human nature does not shatter it upon contact (that's communism), rather that it is because of human nature that this diffuse take on dispensing governmental power is best.
Lol yeah right. Labor unions never had the amount of power politicians do. Ever since the merger of the AFL and the CIO, a shitton of them have been going to shit. UMW may as well not even exist at this point because they have been dwindled down to under 10% in West Virginia, a state where its main moneymaker is coal. And all that coal is controlled by one man who is now backing up republicans to win offices and bust down unions even further.
Face it, businesses have politics in a chokehold. I laugh at anyone who thinks otherwise. The president won't be able to make a country like North Korea stop making WMDs, but wait until an oil company says they're going to cut them off and see how fast they stop nuclear testing.
heres the thing though, fox does occasionally contain facts as well, its just that they put such a heavy spin on them that they are not a reliable source of news. same thing for rolling stone, i have no doubt that they check their facts so that they dont get called out in an outright untruth, but they nuance their words so much that there is no question that republicans are the bad guys. this is often true, but rolling stone is not a reliable source to say when it is or isnt.
I also take issue with your comment that entertainment mags cant have accurate direct political commentary, they cna, hell, there have been times when rolling stone toned it down a little that they had informative articles, same with playboy, same with GQ. all "enterainment" mags, but all have had good political content at times. hell, we are ostensibly on a video game board, but we have had some very informative political discussion when people keep their ego's in check. So i really dispute wether an entertainment medium can direct and accurate information.
I said don't expect, not that it isn't possible. In fact, Rolling Stone has been the home of some amazing well written and interesting political and social articles.
edit: and this would be the chief difference between Rolling Stone and Fox News (expectation and the role a rock and roll magazine plays versus a cable news channel).
I don't blame you for not thinking Canada's two previous governments were intelligent, but I mispoke, I actually meant Canada's last two long term governments, the Chretien Liberals and the Mulroney PCs, which both left office under a cloud of scandal and controversy after ruling for multiple terms. For Mulroney it was the Airbus affair, while Chretien had fingers in the cookie jar with Ad-Scam, which all but sealed the fate of the Liberals in the most recent election. Both governments were seen to become mired in scandals in their later years, just like Tony Blair's Labour goverment and the Republicans Democrats in congress.
Biggest example I can find is very recent. Randy Cunningham, former congressman, former Vietnam war hero. Cunningham resigned from the House on November 28, 2005 after pleading guilty to accepting at least $2.4 million in bribes and underreporting his income for 2004. He pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion. On March 3, 2006, he received a sentence of eight years and four months in prison and an order to pay $1.8 million in restitution.
Now, was he super intelligent? No. But they don't let retards fly fighter planes. Was he sane? You may have to be a bit crazy to land on carriers but I don't think he qualified as insane, the Navy sics shrinks on you when you start flying for them. He got into power and let himself become corrupted.
gozen is the most boring, blathering motherfucker on TNL. And keep in mind this is a place that hosts Jeremy reviews.
