I tried out its prequel, Tetris: The Grand Master, and I
have played 20G Mode (what Tetris: The Absolute calls the
T.A. Death mode). Indeed, that mode is difficult and I feel
I have to learn how to play Tetris again.

What do I need to learn? I used to use just one preferred
rotation button, but Arika's version doesn't give me enough
time to rotate a piece 3 times before it sets. Now I have
to learn how to use both buttons. Next, I have to learn now
to rotate a piece into tight places. This means I have to
pay attention to the orientation of a piece after I rotate
it. I don't remember what else I have to learn, but I did
find a web site that would help me learn the minituae of
quick Tetris play.

Anyway, I feel Tetris: The Grand Master is the best version
of Tetris I've ever played. One, it features the Initial
Rotation System (IRS). In between the time you set a piece
and the next piece falls, you can push a rotation button so
that the next piece is rotated from what's shown in the
Next box. Very useful for speeding up the pace and a must
to learn if I want to survive in 20G mode. And second, it's
just plain the fastest Tetris I've ever played, even
without 20G mode. I think Tetris: The Absolute is faster,
but I've yet to play that.

The only problem I have is the time between when the piece
hits the ground and when it sets. A bit unforgiving, that's
all. If I learn how to play with this constraint a bit,
it would be no problem.

Those movies inspired me to play Tetris: The Grand Master.
I used to think I was a grand master at Tetris, but playing
this Tetris proves that I'm only good for an S1 rank.

is it just me or are the block just appearing on the screen? didnt they usually fall from the top....or are my eyes just slow?

In this mode, I think the block just appears on the screen.
If the blocks fell from the top, then we would see the
player scooting the block quckly to the side instead of
letting it fall in the middle and then moving it from
there.

man...makes it that much more impressive. thought my eyes were just slow :)
