Did you play Bonk when it first came out?

Bonk rocks, stop fronting. And do try to get past the first level.
I got to the second level (the swimming in lava part).
About 3 years after it was released. Have owned a TG-16 since '93, got my Duo in '94 (didn't care that TTI was sinking, I still loved my Turbo games and Gate of Thunder was worth it), and a brand new Turbo Express in '99. Also own a bunch of PCE imports. Good to see more people will get to experience TG games. If you like 2D shooters, make sure to download Super Star Soldier when it's available on VC.

My GF's stepdad has a projector he's not using, I think we're gonna set it up at her Apartment soon and start playing Wii Sports/Monkey Ball on it.
Should be rad. I'll post pics.
Stop living on an island, then.
I live on an island, too. It also sucks. When the money comes, I'm gone.
Do that, too.
I think I want a Wii. I'm sitting on the fence until I can play Spent's Wii though.
Thats it, i cant wait anymore.
I need to get my hands on 2 or 3 systems. 1 for myself and 2 as gifts in Xmass.
Them bastards are selling the Wii here for $750!!!!!!!!! Yes, Just 1 Wii with nothing included!!!!
Who here can be a nice chap and buy me a few and ship them halfway across the globe?
I'm sure this has been answered pages ago but whatever.
Can I use the DS Wifi adapter for the Wii? That would be pretty sweet then I wouldnt have to waste my time buying all kinds of Wifi shit.
yes, i tend to type in lots of .... at the end of some sentences.
Ever pressed file, then open file...
or print... ?
Meaning there's more!
I don't get why u have to comment on my grammar, and not actually reply to what i asked about.
I love 2d shooters; I've wanted a Duo for a long time but I never got around to picking one up. If all the good shmups are on the VC I'll be very happy, especially since I haven't really seen any perfect TG16/Duo emulators.
I always wanted to check out the TG16 version of SF2.
P.S. I'm trying to log onto Amazon to pick up a 360 for $100 and I think the site is crashing; I guess I'm not alone....

"In the Wii-PS3 Playoff, Nintendo Upsets Sony on the Fun Factor
By Mike Musgrove
Thursday, November 23, 2006; Page D01
There was a showdown between the Nintendo Wii and the Sony PlayStation 3 at The Post's game testing lab last weekend.
Here's how it went down: I invited a bunch of my friends, five guys and three gals, over to check out the new systems. Few of them play or care about video games, but they were all curious to see the PlayStation 3, the cutting-edge game console that sparked real-world mayhem on its release Friday.
By comparison, most of my friends arrived having heard little about Nintendo's new system. But, as it turned out, that device was the hit of the party.
Here's the deal with Nintendo's Wii system, in case you missed it. The system's controls contain motion-detecting technology. In some games, you don't have to punch any buttons to play. In a tennis game, for example, you swing the wireless controller like a racket. When you hit a ball in the game, the controller shudders as if you'd hit a real ball. The controllers also contain speakers that make a satisfying "thwok" whenever you connect.
It's the same for the bowling, baseball and boxing games designed for the system. Players in all those games use motions with their hands, arms and wrists that roughly replicate the movements you'd make in the real world.
The graphics on the Wii aren't the system's strong suit, however. One of my friends, who liked the system, summed up its games' looks as "cheesy."
Speaking of graphics, I gave the PS3 an unfair advantage in this department. You could have called it a fixed fight if my friends had fallen for the new PlayStation over the Wii because the $600 Sony system was running on a new $4,500, 50-inch plasma TV set from Pioneer, borrowed from the company just for this test. The $250 Nintendo, meanwhile, was running on an old tube set half the size of the plasma screen.
It was that tube set that got most of the traffic. While the people in my group preferred looking at the PS3's games, they preferred playing the Wii.
My friends played the Wii's sports games against each other all weekend, using goofy, cartoony avatars called "Miis" that they constructed to represent themselves in the game. Give a couple of newlyweds a pair of Wii controllers, pop in the boxing game and the entertainment value is priceless. We started out playing the game sitting down, but eventually we took to our feet to get a better range of motion with the controllers.
I have never seen a bunch of non-gamers get into this stuff like this, and I have never heard anybody laugh so much while playing any video game. A few of them now say they plan to buy the system for themselves.
My friend Andy has always seemed to dislike video games, but he was immediately taken by the Nintendo system in a way that I -- and he -- did not expect. "I'm surprised by how much I like it," he said. "The controller is so intuitive."
A few minutes later, he was cursing the PS3. Most of my friends who picked up the PS3's controller ended up frustrated. The typical game for the system requires players to have memorized where all the buttons are, and it's much harder to just pick up a controller and have a good time. Some of the verdicts they offered are unprintable.
My friend Jon, a technophile who likes racing games, reached first for the PS3 and wrestled with the menus and controls for the driving game Ridge Racer. Eventually, we played some races on the system and enjoyed some crisp and realistic-looking racetrack scenarios. But, for a while, he gave up on that and watched Andy and me fall over the furniture as we boxed each other on the Nintendo system. "I'm having more fun just watching you guys play that," he said.
Jon gave the PS3 a thumbs up in at least one area. He was eventually impressed with the quality of the Blu-ray movie format when we watched "Talladega Nights," the movie that Sony is including with the first shipments of the PS3.
Game developers say the PS3 is so powerful that they haven't exploited the system's full potential. I have no idea what the system is capable of, but I can testify that you have to be pretty sharp-eyed to tell much of a difference between the first batch of PS3 games and Xbox 360 versions of the same titles.
When it comes to accessing all of the multimedia features that Sony is promoting with its console . . . well, I still prefer the Xbox 360's approach.
With the Xbox 360, a Microsoft product, using the interface and getting online has been easy and almost as intuitive as using an iPod. Trying to get online with the PS3, on the other hand, was a vale of tears because I didn't have a USB-compatible keyboard to plug into the console, and using the game controller to enter my user information was a tedious process that I gave up on twice.
Imagine filling out a mortgage application on a cellphone. It's something like that.
So I headed out of town for Thanksgiving to spend some time with my girlfriend's family. Just to be safe, I locked away the expensive and hard-to-find PS3 in an undisclosed location, where it is being guarded by ninjas and feral dogs. The thing has some features I look forward to exploring some more, but that can wait.
The Wii, on the other hand, rode shotgun with me for some show-and-tell action because Nintendo got one feature right with the system on Day One:
It's just darn fun."
Yeah, so those cables are a big improvement... but for those of us who don't have progressive scan-capable TVs, even s-video would be a step up. I've heard nothing mentioned of these, though a friend just told me that Mad Catz is releasing an s-video cable next month. As much as I hate their shit, if Nintendo doesn't provide, I guess I have no choice.
My tv is a Panasonic Panablack (standard definition) but it's got a component input. I've currently got my DVD player plugged into it; if I can find a quality component switchbox I'll get the Wii component cable. Until I get a better TV it's not a big deal to me though.
The pelican component switchboxes are the way to go

Took it over to my cousins for thanksgiving and they loved it. Then again, most of them were playing DS's, GBAs, or GBA SPs when I walked in the door. It was a big hit with them and they controlled it better than I did.
Took my Wii to the gfs grandmas place (lives downstairs in apartment). Her two cousins from the Philippines loved it. Then it was time to eat. Since everyone was surrounding one TV..we decided to go back up to my girls house to play. So I lugged it upstairs and hooked it up. All 9 of us adults started to play Wii Sports and it was a blast. Then we started to play Rayman.
They loved it!
Same story on my Thanksgiving. We took the Wii over my friends house and everybody loved it. I think it was Mzo who sent me an Adolph Hitler Mii and everybody kept using him. He looks so serious! The Afro Man that Bahn sent was a very popular choice as well!
I made Emperor Palpatine. The face is dead-on but the hair isn't perfect. I think I sent him to everyone that's added me so far.
Same Thanksgiving story here. Wii over to my sister's place in Massachussetts, it didn't get touched until after dinner, and then nobody would stop playing it. I showed off Excite Truck and Trauma Center, just to prove there's more than the one game for it, but Wii Sports ruled the night. My Mom got addicted to Bowling!
James
Bowling seems to be the one that gets everybody, my g/f loves it. Today I had my Mom try it after dinner (the only videogame she's ever played is Tetris) and she really got into it.
How is everyone transporting their Wii around? I've been putting it in the box it came in, but that's a pretty fragile box.
Same. I've been keeping my eye out for something better, but really, there are no Wii accessories to speak of anywhere. The Naki G-Pak is all I've seen and it looks terrible. Guess we'll be sticking with the box in the meantime.
Also, anyone using controller gloves? I picked one up and I do like the feel of the controller after it, but I don't much like the way button presses feel after it. I was fine in Zelda, but I like the buttons being raised, rather than just at the surface of the controller, or even recessed, as a lot of them feel. Wondering how anyone else felt about them.
I tried a controller glove, it did give the wiimote a nice feel but I had the same problem you did with the buttons. The home button becomes almost impossible to hit. I might pick up a glove if they ever make one that tapers down around the buttons.
The accessory I'm most excited about is this:
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/2...ytech01dq7.jpg
Joytech Wii Power Station, a dual charger and controller rack in one
I put the system in a brown paper bag with handles, tossing games and controllers in on top. I wrapped the system itself in a plastic bag first, though.
There are better ways to transport it, I'm sure, but it worked fine. :)
James
Spo is right, Bonk 1 is generic, slow, and boring. Yes, I played and beat it when it came out at my cousin's house (I wasn't stupid enough to buy a TG16) and I remember enjoying it. I later played it and beat it on an emu and , much like Thundercats and the majority of the shit I liked as a kid, it sucked.
Bonk 2 is still playable. Bonk 3 is trash again.
Wireless Wii Sensor Bar (somebody made one):
http://doctabu.livejournal.com/64758.html
Apparently the Wii receives no information from the sensor bar; the wire is only there to supply power.
Nintendo amuses children and the elderly with cheap parlor tricks, news at 11.
I have the same Thanksgiving story as everyone else it seems. Wii Sports bowling ruled the day. I pretty much had to throw everyone out or else they would still be here playing right now. I can't believe how fun Wii Sports is.
I put mine a videotape sized Priority Mail box (fits almost perfectly..the Wii is just a hair bigger). I put the controllers in a small best buy bag. Then shoved everything into my GameCube messenger bag. Would be so sweet if I can get my hands on a Wii bag (without buying)
I think I'm going to be playing this with Gibbits tonight, and I'm excited.
My only hesitation about getting a Wii bag is that I don't want everyone knowing I'm carrying a Wii around. At least not while everyone is rabid for one. A friend of mine just called to tell me she left at 5am this morning to go find a Wii. Every store had lines bigger than on launch morning, and all were out of Wii vouchers. There were about 30 people at the end of each line without vouchers, hoping someone with a voucher would change their mind or be unable to pay. People were walking up and down the lines saying things like "$30 for a voucher!"
lol wii bag. Where do you kids find this shit.
Well they sell them at Target. Just like the Wii sling pouch. The Wii messenger bag I was talking about is like the shit that they give out to you at like E3 or whatever promo stuff it is. The Wii bag sold in stores is for actually carrying the Wii with pockets and stuff.
See, I really see myself taking this to my gf's house a lot, I might have to invest in a wii bag, lolol
I've got a padded bag for the NES that's 20 years old, I might use that (although the compartment is too big for the wii; it'll be bouncing around in there a lot).
is it too hard to just carry the fucking thing? we need padded boxes and shit now?
Oh, I'm not worried about the System, or the controllers, but the sensor bar just FEELS flimsy.
I just threw mine in a backpack but that sensor bar worried me too.Quote:

here make your own
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/24/di...ii-sensor-bar/
I threw everything into a bookbag and then that into the trunk.
It all survived the trip intact. Wow, I made my own Wii bag!
Those who have my Wii code, I have made more Mii's. Theres Reggie Fils-Aime, Saddam, Conan O Brian, Iwata, Miyamoto, Kim Jung and a few more I think. Those who didnt receive it, let me know. I set them all to mingle.
I was worried about that too... but the system concerns me more. The surface isn't scratch resistant. Seems to be of the same material that PS3 is. Ah well... least it plays, that's all that matters. Anyways, took the system down for my in-laws to try out. They all fell is love with Wii Sports (bowling and golf, mostly). Now they're looking to pick one up this holiday season.
Yea, I think I'll protect the system more than the sensor bar. System is $250 and expensive while the senor bar is $10 to replace.
Here is another alternative to your sensor bar incase you forget it or too cheap to buy a new one...candles!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6paa4s8le10
I want to get my hands on nunchuk gloves. But they're aftermarket and comes with the Wii remote gloves too.
I think there was a site that explained it. I dont remember where. Just google search for "wii sensor bar"
So I found this video that kind of shows how it works, but doesn't really explain it very well:
But, even better, I found this douchebag responding to the video. lol.
(WOW!!! I once changed the batteries in a flash light... I'm pretty technical. I once wound my watch... that doesn't make me a detective... I just sat through 2 minutes of diatribe and now of course... so have you.)
Douchebag indeed... he needs to get laid.
Is that guy serious? lol, he was like GIT R DONE FIND THAT OSAAAMA
The implications are actually pretty cool. In time you'll see people making custom wireless sensor bars out of craft board or Nintendo figurines with IR sensors in them or whatever.
"http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo.../sensorbar.jpgIt seems that the Wii's sensor bar isn't entirely necessary to use the Wii remote's pointer functionality. An intrepid Wii user has posted an online video showing intermittent pointer reception using two TV remote controls in place of the sensor bar.
Apparently the Wii sensor bar is actually a transmitter for a dual IR signal that gets triangulated by the Wii remote, not a receiver for a signal that comes from the remote. This revelation would seem to suggest that any correctly positioned, consistent dual IR source can be used in place of the official Nintendo provided sensor bar. With this information in hand, how long will it be until we see hackers rigging up their own custom sensor technology?"
THIS JUST IN FROM THIS GUY'S MOM'S BASEMENT
This shit is selling out EVERYWHERE up here. Us Canucks are going crazy for this shit. Like even places like Loblaw's and grocery stores that have electronics sections are selling out in 20 minutes.
How is it selling in the States? I was under the impression it was selling well but you could still go in to a store and pick one up if need be.
It's fucking impossible in the U.S. Fucking IMPOSSIBLE.
I went to Wal-Mart, Gamecrazy, 2 Gamestops, Target, Sears, Circuit City, Best Buy and even a fucking swap-meet. Their all gone.
IU think I'm just going to order it from Toys'R'Us website and use their bill me later program.
Went to blockbuster, they had a new wii, and PS3 section.
They had EVERY ps3 game in stock, and no Wii games left.
Saw seven or so Wiis this morning when I bought my 360 at Circuit City.
Been looking casually for a few days. Nothing in town.
Do any retail stores (EB, BB, etc) get shipments in on Saturday?
In trying to find component cables for the system I've been to quite a few stores and it's sold out every where around here.
): My Wii was appropriated by my room mates. We were all having fun with Wii Bowling and Boxing, but then... we started playing Trauma Center. After about an hour and a half, i was told i had to wake up early tomorrow so i'd better get some sleep. Tomorrow i will steal it back. ;__; Tomorrow...
Also, neither of them play games normally. The only game i've gotten either of them to play before was Phoenix Wright, and one owns a DS.
