GC had some decent games, but they were few and far between, and it took them until freaking RE4 to finally get a killer app... which was then ported to PS2. I sold my GC after Mario Kart DD and haven't regretted it since.

Besides, I was referring to post-failure GC, not "it's still new Nintendo will make it not suck GC". There's absolutely nothing worth buying for it this month except for Zelda (admit it, none of you fuckers would be so excited about ExciteTruck or Rayman if this was a mid-lifespan lineup and not launch lineup we were talking about), and when I looked at the release list earlier it seemed like there'll be a month or two after that at the least until decent stuff starts coming out for it.

If I get a Wii this Sunday I'll be buying RE4 and SM64 (VC) for it, lol.

I'm not camping for shit. The Best Buy near me is getting 150, I just asked some of the kids(4) that were out there just now. They're camping for the hell of it(Whatever) The Circuit City and TRU right next door had nobody waiting.

Went to Nintendo Store at Rockefeller center. Sales guy told me that they will have plenty of Wii, enough to fulfill all pre-orders + new purchase.

After looking at what is coming out for the system in the next, oh, 6 months, I have decided against my urges to pick up the system. While Monkey Ball and Zelda are great, there is nothing coming out in the next 6 months that is even worth contemplating a purchase of. At least not that is announced. The next real game that is announced is Wario Ware on Jan 17th and I don't even want that. So it looks like Wii will be put on hold for a min and I'm going to be picking up GH2 and an second guitar.

Either way, I thought there were far more then a few "decent" games on Gamecube, and if Wii has just as many, it will be worth it for me to spend money on. But until it has more then 4 games I want released chances are I won't buy it.

The way I see it, it'll take me 6 months to play through Zelda TP, Monkey Ball BB, Red Steel, Rayman, and Excite Truck plus the deluge of Nintendo DS games coming out this fall. I don't even know if 6 months is long enough; I'm going to be working and taking a double courseload at the same time.

I'm sad that I might echo this. I'm really excited about the system itself, but the only game I'm absolutely dying for is Mario Galaxy...and that seems so far off.

360, GoW, Viva Pinata, and RR6 is sounding like the better (if more expensive) bday/xmas gift. Honestly I have plenty of games to play right now. I was dead set on getting Wii tonight, but I feel like I'm about to ditch the bride at the altar. I should just pay off my credit card and not have anything to be excited about :(

I also cant help remember buying a DS at launch and after the initial !!!! just being confused about why there was nothing on it to play at all. I'll probably end up buying the damn Wii just from being a compulsive nut with my money.

GC had more than a few decent games but it all depends on what your into. REmake was damn good and a lot better than any other past versions of the game. Metroid Prime is probably my favorite game of last gen and right now my favorite game of all time. Again it all depends on your taste tnl fucking loves the Xbox, I thought my Xbox overall was a waste, 3 maybe 4 good exclusives for the system that I actually cared about, but if you love online gaming then I can see how the Xbox is the shit for someone. I think the only system that everyone can agree on having an assload of must play games was the PS2. This however is not the thread for that.

Back to the Wii, Zelda, Red Steel, Trauma Center, and even Wii sports have me sold on the system. Wario Ware is out early next year and I do believe Metroid Prime 3 Corruption is due Q1 of next year, so that should fall under the 6 months from launch window. I know Super Paper Mario got pushed to the Wii, and that was due in October for GC so hopefully it won't be that long of a wait for it.

Its confirmed. I called my GS and they said that they do have tshirts but its limited and its first come first serve. Those asses probably kept majority for themselves.

I dont know what to do now. Go to Walmart at 7am to try and get the Wii remote and nunchuk and miss my chance of getting the shirts, miss the chance of getting accessories completely or risking the chance of getting them after I get my Wii and get the shirts

Not worth it for a fancy Gamecube sadly. Particularly when a 360 Premium + game + controller is about the same.

If I were you, I'd go nab the shirt. You can get the accessories at a later time if you have to.

I swear, it's ridiculous here. I hit ever major retailer that would have the Wii, and they all have few systems, and TONS of controllers. I think Burlington, North Carolina got all the accessories.

Luckily, the stores open at different times. Game plan is: Hit Walmart this evening to see if there is a line. If Walmart is teh fail, then I hit Target tomorrow at 8 am, and then the Best Buy right next to it opens an hour later if all else fails. If I still don't have a system, I'll hit the mall's smaller stores when they open at 1 to see if any of them have it.

PS: 3 million units my ass. Maybe by Christmas, but definately not launch.

I think it's silly to fall into the "it's just a GameCube" trap (which I sometimes fall into myself). If you think about it, it's twice as powerful as a GameCube and that is pretty powerful. Plus the new control method really is the most fun way to play. If you've got an HDTV that you want to get the most out of then I understand, but if you enjoy fun games at all I don't see how you don't at some point get a Wii.

P.S. GameCube launched with a killer app (Monkey Ball)

Super Monkey Ball was fantastic. I am looking at the video review for the new one and I notice that none of the stages look really difficult though. Seems a bit lame.

Oh yeah, Bandit, I forgot to mention-at my local Target, they had some promo pack (from Activision?) that basically just had movies for a couple of games for the Wii. But, they came in a Wii-White case, and cost.... $.01. I don't know if they are supposed to go with something else or if they can be picked up by themselves. Alternatively, Nintendo's online store sells em for a buck fiddy.

It's not hard to get the premium version for $300. Microcenter has it right now, buy.com has had it pretty close recently.

About the shirts- they're supposed to be a Black Friday giveaway for the systems that are going to be set aside to be sold that day. Not, repeat not, a presell goody for the system itself. Also, near as I can tell, they only come in Large. Still, if you can wear a large and get your EB/Gamestop to give you one, have fun and I'm kind of jealous. XL for me.

Yea, I also read that its only Large size. Good enough for me. I called my GS and they said yes and its first come first serve, so I'll be in front of my GS 2 hours early. Right after that, I'm heading right over to TRU which is about a 10 min drive to get some controllers if they have. They open at 10am.

As of like 5:30pm today, there was no one on line at Circuit City in Westbury. There was about 7 people at Walmart and 20 or so at Best Buy. I didnt check Target.

I am wearing mine right now, and will be representing at work. I'm getting ready to head down there right now. I pretty much get to play and watch people play excite truck and mess around with the Wii.

I've already picked up Monkey Ball and Red Steel and will of course be getting Zelda. I plan on getting 4000 Wii points to snatch Mario 64, Mario Bros, Toe Jam and ear, and anything else that catches my fancy on the VC. I am trying to decide if I want to get a 4th game for launch or wait till Dec for a few more games to come out, but I can't decide on my 4th game.

For some reason, the stores around here are getting pathetically small amounts. The three stores I hit were all walmarts, and they only had 20 apiece. The gamestop/EB's only got 12, all to preorders. Target and Best Buy will be my next stop tomorrow.

On a really shitty note, all three Walmarts were forcing people to wait OUTSIDE. Now, all of them are gigantic 24 hour supercenters, and there are only 20 or so people. It's fucking cold out there.

Yeah I'm not going to be braving the cold out there tomorrow morning for a Wii.

I did it for the Cube and I actually liked the launch games of that system but this time I'm not going to. Perhaps later when Mario comes out but the only games I'm interested in playing are Excite Truck (ironically) and Super Monkey Ball. Plus I can wait a little longer for the GC Zelda so no biggie.

I'm interested in the impressions people have here though so I'll keep up with the thread at least.

For some reason, all the reviews so far for the new Monkey Ball game have failed to mention the fact that both the challenge and competition modes have been mysteriously removed from the series. This means that the only way to play any of the puzzle levels is through the story mode that separates each of the ten level sets by their background theme, forces you to fight a boss at the end of every of every world, and can only be played by one person.

As petty as this might seem to anyone that never played the first two Monkey Balls, these omissions take out a significant chunk of the game’s replay value and multiplayer appeal; to me, Monkey Ball’s minigames were always just a distraction from the series’ centerpiece (namely, challenging, maze- and puzzle-based platforming), as the gameplay in most of them--by design--just doesn't contain the same level of depth and sadistic satisfaction that the main mode provides.

With Monkey Ball out of the picture, this pretty much leaves the Wii with zero exclusive titles of interest (imo) during the launch window, and unless a few surprises show up, it looks like Wii owners aren't going to have a whole lot of interesting exclusives to toy with for a while.

I tried to snag a Wii at Wal-Mart tonight, but they only had 28 systems, so I missed out. About 50 people were camped outside Best Buy, but I don't know how many systems they're getting. If I get a chance, I plan to hit TRU either tomorrow or Monday for it.

Went to the TRU in Times Square and it was packed with people. Probably more than can actually get a Wii. It was a funny sight.

Earlier I went to Best Buy and they had a line of about 25 people. I talked to one of the sales associates and they said they were getting getting about 90 consoles. They also had all the launch games out to buy, except for Excite Truck and Zelda.

I also picked up a preview DVD and a flyer with some coupons in it.

Just got mine, Wal Mart got 33 systems in stock and I was first in line.

Looooong ass wait.

According to Engadget, TRU at Times Square had 7,000 Wiis, I think all of them would probably be able to walk out with one.

I just got back from Toys R Us in Peabody, MA.

They had 161 systems. I showed up at 9:30 p.m. and was 128th in line. I would say 40-50 people were turned away without a Wii.

Everyone around me in line was really cool. Played some Mario Kart DS and Starfox Command with them. It was lots of fun, although rain toward the end made it a bit chilly.

Now to hook up this Wii.... :)

After having read all of the Wii reviews on 1up.com, I'm curious as to why everyone is so hyped about this system. For Twilight Princess I can understand, but for the other launch games, all my skepticisms about the Wii and its Wii-mote have held true. It may be early to say, but it seems like the Wii will be the console DS --- Nintendo will get things right, but third-party games will be gimmicky. It's funny that Nintendo stated that they're not competing with Microsoft and Sony this generation, yet many of the same games appear on all three consoles. They should just forgo the multi-platform games and concentrate on Wii-specific games. For example, Rayman and Trauma Center seem to be good indicators of how the Wii can be a lot of fun. Well, incredibly brilliant move by Nintendo to launch two days after Sony. They knew that with the PS3 so limited, that it would create a mad rush by people with no lives to camp out for hours (days?). I went to a Wal-mart here that nobody ever goes to, but it had about 50 people in line for 30 systems.

I really can't get over the fact that if Nintendo had launched before Sony, I could've easily woken up around 11am tomorrow and grabbed one from Target along with a few games. Now I probably won't get one until after Xmas.

Wii get. Zelda seems cool so far & the virtual console menus are really slick. Nice looking system. Also, zero problems getting it to recognize my wireless set up. I have GOT to get some better video connections for this bitch. I haven't looked at a game through standard AV cables in a long time & it isn't pretty.

I agree with the base of your complaint, having games created just for the wii would of course be better, but taking away games for any reason is stupid.

Bomberman, as shitty as it is, is 100x better than that GT piece of shit. I can actually sort of look at Bomberman without doing major LOLing.

The launch games are <shrug> but whatever. Drove to a few stores tonight on impulse but none were open at midnight, so tomorrow we're just gonna drive around a bit and see if we can find one. Barring that, I'll pick one up at a store in Bergen County (blue laws lawl) on Monday.

I'm pretty excited, I played wii sports for a few hours in the GSP and it was a lot of fun. Anything else that happens is gravy. I'll be waiting for my smash brothers cake and I'll eat it too. Otherwise sports is a blast.

Nah, you're right. Half the launch stuff looks worse than what i bothered to pay attention to on Gamecube. A lot of the stuff was shit out for a launch. I know it's all bidness, but i'd rather see less stuff released, with more that looks good.

I was unsuccessful again, but according to Microcenter.com they should have Wiis in stock, so I ordered it with next-day shipping, with shipping prices being about the same as taxes are locally. Now let's just hope that their website's quantities update real-time, and that it won't get canceled tomorrow.

Also, can someone confirm what Virtual Console games are out now? The "Launch" list that has been up for a while says "will be out by December" on Nintendo's website. If all they have up is Mario Bros I won't bother buying a classic controller yet.

They should just forgo the multi-platform games and concentrate on Wii-specific games. For example, Rayman and Trauma Center seem to be good indicators of how the Wii can be a lot of fun. That would be a better showcase of the system's potential.

I got mine at the World store, had a good time Hanging out with Chaoofnee, Trial Sword's little brother and one of their friends, made the night a lot more fun, I have my Wii set up and connected to the internet so I'm just letting it do its update thing which is taking a long ass time since probably a few hundred thousand other people are doing it also right now

and In an hour I get to go to gamestop and get my copy of Zelda and hope they have component cables

a big Fuck you to the world store for not having component cables

So I decided to stay up all night to get some homework done and actually manage to get to a store for launch (god knows I wouldn't wake up that early). I walked there at like 6 in the morning, was like number 34 in line, and the Best Buy, the ONLY Best Buy actually IN Baltimore, only got 21 Wiis in. AND I didn't even finish my homework. God damnit.

Went looking for store two hours in advance, no luck at BB, Target, etc...
Hopefully later this week...

on my way home from the train station I stopped at a Best Buy to see if they were open yet and had component cables must have been about 100 something people in line.

No, it's stupid to bury the few gems the system has underneath a ton of gimmicky crap, instead of having a majority of games that are effective in conveying a new gaming experience. If people want to play Madden, Call of Duty, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, etc., the 360 and PS3 are available for those games. The Wii, on the other hand, should consistently have games that are more akin to Zelda, Trauma Center, Rayman, etc., because those are the type of experience the system was really made for.

If Nintendo wants to show us a new type of gaming experience, don't make us wade through a bunch of tacky gimmicks. Demand that third-parties make Wii-specific games rather than porting over a game and tagging on ineffective Wii controls. There's only so much crap the average person can go through before giving up on finding those diamonds in the rough.

Thanks for the confirmation. I might just hold off on the classic controller, since I'd rather play Mario 64 on the Wavebird and Donkey Kong with the Wiimote

*note-I've never actually had DK on the NES, it was always too expensive.

So our store sold this at Midnight last night. We had people waiting in line since 10 AM Friday morning for 19 Wii's.

Saturday at 3:30 AM some douchebag threw a pipe bomb at the line. Luckily he didnt make it correctly and it just created a lot of noise and smoke. When it blew up it rattled our store so much that the alarm went off though. Pretty fucking nuts. At least those Nintendo fanboys have something to tell their grandkids about I guess...

You should've just gotten Donkey Kong Classics which had DK and DK jr on it.

Of course DK was always missing that "pie" level.
