"The senator's suggestion that the men and women of our military are somehow uneducated is insulting and shameful," Bush said. "The men and women who serve in our all-volunteer armed forces are plenty smart and are serving because they are patriots -- and Senator Kerry owes them an apology."

Republicans unleashed a firestorm of criticism against Kerry after the Vietnam veteran's remarks on Monday, but Kerry said Tuesday that he made a mistake.

"The White House's attempt to distort my true statement is a remarkable testament to their abject failure in making America safe," the Massachusetts senator said. "It's a stunning statement about their willingness to reduce anything in America to raw politics."

Kerry's comment did not sit well even with leading members of his own party. A number of top Democrats told CNN they were upset with the senator for giving the Republicans election-time ammunition -- even if the GOP was hyping the remark.

"He has already cost us one election. The guy just needs to keep his mouth shut until after the election," a top Democratic strategist said Tuesday.

Man, Kerry just keeps digging holes for himself.

The fact that the GOP has dog piled this comment is ample proof to me of how desperate they are.

It's ridiculous to slam Kerry for one sentence and yet absolve the people who're responsible for the failed policy. But, you know, whatever. It's not like John Kerry is running a tight race against anyone so he really can say whatever he wants and it's really not going to have an effect on other Dems races.

The fact is, his own party thinks he's an idiot, which is the point of this thread. In addition, you using this to take a shot at conservatives makes you as bad as Rush Limbaugh.

This quote has been taken totally out of context. He wasn't talking about the soldiers at all. He was talking about the Bush administration. This is how I took the comment when I saw it before I heard either side of the situation.

LOL, me pointing out that Bush's failed policy is more of a danger to the troops than John Kerry's off-the-cuff remark is a far cry from Rush Limbaugh, primarily because it's actually the truth.

Where is this thread did anyone say Bush was doing a super job? The point of the thread was that Kerry is, and always was, an idiot. You used it as a platform to spit additional venom at the current president, Limbaugh.

The point of the thread was the article, and in the article it pointed out how the GOP is inflating the situation. The reason they're inflating the situation is because they can't run on Iraq themselves so they have to just do everything in their power to portray the Dems as anti-foot soldier. So, you can make allusions to me acting like Limbaugh all you want, they just don't stick.
