Honestly, it's been shown in studies that the bulk of our enlisted troops are of the less educated sort. Hell, we've all known people who have turned to the armed forces mainly because they had nothing else going on in their lives.
I'm not knocking the brave guys and gals who defend our country (or whose lives are horribly misused and wasted for nothing like in Iraq), but it's not like you see many college grads heading straight into the army. Hell, with the debacle in Iraq, enlistment across the board is at an all-time low.
But did Kerry call the soldiers in Iraq stupid? I'm sure that's not what he meant, but it sure sounded like it. I mean, if he was actually directing that comment at Bush he should have worded it more precisely.
I like how this conveniently took everyone's attention away from our First Lady taking a Limbaugh-esque stance on Michael J. Fox and the stem cell issue.

did you ever listen to him talk? A lot of the things he said while running was like "blah blah blah, I'm not bush, blah blah blah, bush is stupid, blah blah blah, but I think we should stay the course.
You really didn't follow the election did you, IronPlant? Kerry's idea was to bring in the international community, which is an equally bad (and / or not doable) to 'stay the course'. This is probably why the Bush administration has been trying to move in that direction themselves (FLIP-FLOP!).
As for shredding the Bill of Rights, do you really want to tell me he spent all that time with his fellow Dems and a few brave Republicans opposing torture and the loss of habeas corpus when he was really in favor of both? Shrewd, very shrewd indeed. We're all very lucky to have IP here to remove the scales from our eyes.
This quote is clearly being taken out of context.
Kerry has stated that he was making a joke about the president: if you don't study and work hard (see: Bush @ Yale), you will "get stuck in Iraq" (read: you'll F things up).
Bush didn't study which is why he's found his administration in this Iraq mess.
