Confirmed: Nintendo to Release DVD-Enabled Wii in 2007

Nintendo of America has confirmed to GameDaily BIZ that a DVD-enabled Wii is indeed coming to the U.S. Previous reports suggested that this may have been a Japan-only promotion. Sonic Solutions will be providing the DVD navigation software for the Wii.

I thought we were past the Gamecube too, but Nintendo's proving that people want to buy it again at a higher cost.

Someone makes it capable of reading games from DVD-R discs...

That's a good question. If they are DVD's this update would only need to be a software package, which any Wii owner could download.

Anyone know for sure if Wii discs are DVDs or a proprietary format?

Physically they're the same as DVDs but much like the GC discs were different than just Mini-DVDs, the Wii discs store information on the disc in a different way than DVDs.

yeah this really isn't even a screw up it's just Q version 2.0

they're real first major screw up was going with carts instead of cds, or the whole green blood thing at the start of the SNES era
