I was reading yesterday that the 360 will be shipping with a new CPU in 2007 (shrunk down to lower heat and cost); I'm not sure if this will make the 360 more durable/reliable or if it's really just going to save MS money. -Third placed title Guitar Hero 2 (with guitar) lagged behind the above two with just 356,142 copies sold, though if sales of the SKU without guitars were added to the figures, 498,332 copies were sold to the U.S. game buying public.

Excellent BC update. Not only Psychonauts and Shenmue 2, but Indigo Prophecy as well. :) Best BC update so far, at least. Now I can finally break the seal on Psychonauts, and hopefully start that sometime in the next few days.
Now just give me Phantom Dust, the Otogi's, and the rest of the Sega games, and I'll be happy.
My 360 is coming with a service plan so I'm just going to swap it out for the updated design when it hits. Considering how often 360's break I think the service plan is a no-brainer. Is Metal Gear Solid even a killer franchise anymore? I haven't been keeping up on it since 2 was such a colossal let down (except for the final boss fight, that was cool). Though I have to tell you that Assassin's Creed making the jump to multiplatform territory has killed any small interest I had in the PS3. It was really the only game that I was kind of frustrated to miss out on. Thanks Ubisoft.
I think the speculators are looking at:
A) The fact that Kojima said MGS4 could be done on 360
B) MGS2 was on Xbox so there's precedent
C) Microsoft's been stroking his ego and begging him to work for them
D) Whatever # of sales Sony promised to keep it exclusive, their install base is going to have a really hard time making it happen. Konami may be faced with either a 360 version or losing money on the venture.
I 100% doubt anyone at Team Kojima's really whispering anything this early in the game, though. It's not due for at least another year.

Tis the season for giving, and gaming companies are starting to get festive about it. THQ has released a Christmas theme pack for Saint's Row ... completely free. How Bethesda is getting into the spirit. Mehrunes' Razor, a 250 point Xbox Live Marketplace add-on, is being offered for absolutely free starting tomorrow through December 31. The quest, which was big jump in quality compared to the infamous horse armor (which we're sure they should have packed in as a freebie as well), is a wonderful way to thank all the loyal customers who purchased Oblivion. We just hope more companies do this next year, since all the new consoles now have some kind of online option available out-of-the-box.
My 360 is only 3 days away, but here's the catch; I've only got an SD tv. It can accept component input, but it can't do progressive scan. I've been thinking about a CRT HDTV for a while now, and I'm wondering what kind of tv's everyone else is playing their 360's on.
I switched from a 1080i CRT to a 720p LCD about a week ago.

I play on a 1080p LCD monitor. I have the resolution set to 1920x1080 with the VGA cable and the picture looks sharp and beautiful. So, so beautiful. I had it set to 720p at first, and that looked about the same, but most of the video you get from the Marketplace doesn't go above 720p anyway. I haven't watched any HD-DVDs.
I have an LCD HDTV and I run games at 720p. 1080p was a lot more expensive and seemed pretty superfluous to me at the time I bought my TV, but it honestly looks beyond gorgeous. It'll make you lol at the Wii time and time again.
The biggest thing I notice when I play on other people's televisions are the massive scanlines marring up every game I play. It's pretty jarring to see now.
I was always under the impression that 720p was better than 1080i, but I don't really know much about this shit. Honestly, if you're getting a 360 you need to run it in progressive scan or it's a massive waste. If you're going below 40" go with LCD, over 40" go with DLP.
How large is it? I've been looking at gettting a widescreen monitor in the new year, as by & large they're way better deals than HDTVs.Quote:

I have a 24" BenQ FP241W monitor. The aspect ratio is actually 16:10; the picture doesn't look distorted in any way, but I didn't notice the 360 doing any letterboxing. I can look again when I get home, but really, once Gears of War comes on that screen, I am amazed all over again.Quote:
