Actually I've been having problems doing that. I was trying to download and install hdloader advance to disk and when my ps2 tells me to install a ps or ps2 install disk, I pull it out then the screen goes back to the main menu. I'm not sure if it's the way I wrote it to disk or anything, but I'm taking a shot at finding some way to make this work.
I'm getting the files off sksapps.com btw.
What is HDloader?
It's a program used to install and play games on your HD instead of disk. This way everything loads a fuck-ton faster then normal.
I've been having some problems with the newer games like SC3 not showing gallerys and hanging during battle theater with custom/bonus characters.
I was looking into this recently. Am I correct in my impression that you need the PS2 Ethernet adaptor to connect the HD? And what kind of HD are you using, voltz?
Standard sony HD and you do need the adapter to fit it in. I've heard that Seagate has the best record on compatability, but at the moment I'm not looking for a replacement.
But you need the adaptor regardless of what kind of HD you use, yes?

Well just don't go western digital, they don't fit. I'm sure there's a list of compatable drives out there that'll point you in the right direction.

Sure thing. Going to be playing some 3rd Strike in a couple hours with some buddies, but I'll be on after.
I did manage to barrow a reg ps2 card and I don't think the brand quality was the issue here, so something in the file you sent may be messed up or I may have to look at what serial my system is under.
I just load HDloader and any other files via flash drive. You can use action replay or the program that boots before you select HDloader (I forget the name). All you have to do is get the file on the memory card right? That's how my version works...never did it from disc though...
As for price, I got a 200 gig from Best Buy for 50 bucks + the cost of the network adapter is less than 100 investment and actually makes some games playable. It's awesome for RPGs and other games with tons of load times...well worth the investment AND if you have an import PS2 as well, you can stick the HD on there, load all your imports onto the same HD and then swap it back to your US one and have all the games together...

Which HD brand were you using exaclty? I'll be kinda interested if the extra space is needed.
I got my adapter for under $25 used, and a Seagate 80GB HD on sale after Thanksgiving last year (well, my dad did, he paid $45 for it) so it doesn't have to be that expensive. Just so -you- specifically know, I can't get 7th or 8th Style to work with HDloader, but all other IIDX is lag-free and wonderful. HDloader is amazing for lazy people since I never have to mess with discs.Quote:

That's weird. The ISO I sent you definetly had all the stuff needed for the exploit. So like you were thinking, some files just weren't copying into the memory card (which is why your system data seemed smaller than it should be). If you can get your hands on an Action Replay Max Evo or a Codebreaker (or anything else you can use to transfer memory card files from a PC to a PS2) we can try it that way too.Quote:

Thanks for the info, Nomi and others. I've just bought a 120GB SeaGate drive (it was one of the more popular ones on the compatability list) from NewEgg, and the HDLoader software. Now all's I need is the Network Adaptor. They seem to go for between $35-45-ish on ebay.
Couple quick questions:
1. I have an old US PS2 Fat, and a new silver JP PS2 Slim. Can I use HDLoader to play imports on my US PS2? No biggie if I can't, just curious.
2. Another thing I'm just curious about, as I intend to use this on my PS2 Fat, but does it work at all on the PS2 Slims? I know I remember reading that the PS2 harddrive wasn't supported on those (so FFXI fans were out of luck), but HDLoader is supported on at least some of the Slim models according to the HDLoader site. But if the Slim model doesn't support HDs, what good is HDLoader? Or is it that the Slim just doesn't support the official Sony HD? What am I not understanding? Thanks in advance.

Don't bother with the HDLoader on a slim PS2, you'd need to buy an HDCombo (which would cost extra and you'd have to solder), or go for USBAdvance (which has a very crappy compatibility). Stick with the fat PS2s and save yourself the trouble.Quote:

HDloader is a fat PS2's best friend (assuming it has a bay, the old ones don't like my JPS2), and like Mikhal said, it plays them without ever 'noticing' region. I have US and JP games on my loader, on a USPS2 and I've noticed a thing for difference.Quote:

Well, no problem playing it, but problems installing it. If it's import, you need to put the HD in your PC and install it, or set up a memory card exploit to send it to the PS2 via network if you can.
Sadly, from what I recall, Vampire Chronicles doesn't work on the HDLoader, so don't even bother doing that.Quote:

Makes FFXII run so much faster. I'm really ticked because Tales of the Abyss randomly freezes on battles and is a perfect candidate for HDloader, the load times are ridiculous... Fighting games are great too, like KoFXI, 2006, and whatnot, run like their on cartridge. You can also play preview copies games as well without a modded PS2 -- you just take the disc, make an ISO out of it on the computer and send it over to the HD, so it's also a reviewers best friend...

So I got all my stuff, set it up, and installed a bunch of games. Question:
Does FFXII not run from HDLoader without being patched first? And how do I go about doing that? This is getting irritating. I thought it would be simpler....
Correct, FFXII needs patching.
You'll need to 1. make an ISO out of your game (DVD Decrypter isn't bad for this, if you can still find it), 2. get the patch attached below, 3. use PPF O Matic ( http://www.paradogs.com/download/pdx-pom3.zip ) to patch said file to your ISO, and 4. reburn it.
Actually, shit, if you don't have a fliptop lid, you might not be able to do this at all.
God, what a pain in the ass. This was the main game I got all this for, too. I don't have a fliptop lid or a DVD burner. Thanks anyway.

You can still do all of that, but in order to get the patched game onto the HD, you'll need to hook the HD up to your PC. If you decide to do that, use HDL_Dumb ( http://hdldump.ps2-scene.org/hdl_dumx-0.8.6.zip ).
