I know it's often presented that way, but I think tasing is more severe than that. There have been over 150 taser related deaths recorded in the US. It sends 300 kilovolts through your body. The SEC doesn't classify them as non-lethal, they're classified by the government as "less lethal".

You're making it sound like it's a mild tickling, but it's incredibly painful. Several officers have suffered long-term injuries as a result of those training-shocks you mentioned, and lawsuits have been launched.

Tasers should only be used in situations where there is a danger to the officer. Electrocuting somebody handcuffed and on the ground 5 times just because they've put the officer in a bad mood is police brutality.

No, police should not have free license to shock somebody they don't likeinto submission, because let's get real here - he was some stupid kid doing his homework in a library without a student card and then being an asshole about leaving. He wasn't a drug dealer or a bankrobber or anyone posing a serious danger to those around him or the officers. That's really the crucial thing here for me, not whether he's a dickhead or not.

Some of you are being huge bitches about this. Apparently they used low powered taser guns, the kid was still "active" enough to scream and carry on and spout his "I'm a stereotypical college kid" bullshit lines. The police took him outside and let him go and he'll go on about his merry way and be fine. I havn't been tased but I know people who have been and I was going through the police academy a short while ago, but the kid is fine, nuff said. Like was said before, they could've sprayed him or hit him with their batons, which could've caused real problems.

Some of you are just fucked up about the police because you're probably pissed that they pull you over for speeding and enforce drunk driving laws but you all need to grow the fuck up. I have respect for the police and as such I've never had trouble with them and I can guarentee you that I'll never find myself on the recieving end of a taser because of it. They have hard jobs and have to go through a lot of shit.

150 deaths out of how many people being tased? Over a million I bet?

Does anybody here have any articles about what tasering somebody actually does? As in how severe it is, etc. (I'm not being smarmy, I'm genuinely interested). I mean, it seems like none of us really know how painful or dangerous those things are. We have some people saying that it is the least force a cop can use and we have others saying that it is an extremely painful thing. Unlike actually hitting somebody or even using minimal force to physically to move somebody, will shocking them leave any marks? It seems that might be the reason cops are so willing to use their tasers.

You are just fucked up about the police because you wanted to become one and have never encountered ones who were asshole abusers of their authority, but you need to wake the fuck up. Not everything a cop says or does is right just because he's a cop.

It's part of the training regime and police use of tasers is generally in the guidelines. If harm is being done, fault the people coming up with the training guidelines and not the actual police officers.

I probably still could if I really wanted to but I decided that I'd rather go off in a different direction for the time being. There are asshole cops and I've encountered them before (best example would be when I was younger some kids stole my skateboard so my friends called the police and the cop came and was threatening to arrest us for skateboarding where we wern't allowed, probably a few more, but I rarely do anything to get involved with the police in the first place), but it doesn't matter, you should still do what the fuck they tell you to and not make a big scene out of it because you're only going to make it worse.

He was screaming at the top of his lungs at the police, which I don't know about everyone else, but that takes energy and I'm willing to bet he could stand up and based on how he was screaming, they had good reason to believe that he could potentially become violent and if you don't agree, just wait until you get that angry one of these days and then tell me that you're not at least thinking of doing something violent when you're screaming like that.

It's pretty liberal, it's not like "lawl, tase everyone!" but generally when a person continously resists police orders and becomes resistant they can use them.
