There were numerous attempts to ressurect that project on Xbox and PC, too. Guess it wasn't meant to be.

They probably canned it because of the arcade-style experience that was presented in this game. You know how bad home ports from arcades were right? None of those companies ever wanted us to have that. It's a conspiracy I tell ya!

Castlevania Ressurection
And what the hell Castlevania game is this?!

-edit- Just a hoax
I stumbled on an interesting cancelled game I had never heard of called TomCat. It was a 3D multiplayer flight combat game (in the same genre as, say, WingWar or Propeller Arena), made by Atari in 1983. It had multiple cabs networked and players could face off against each other. Atari got into financial trouble and were never able to finish it, and eventually scrapped it, but it's an interesting bit of history.
Incidentally, this happens because publishers conduct ongoing cost/risk analyses of the games they bankroll, and if at some point they feel that not releasing the game will cost them less than releasing the game, they'll cancel it, even if it's at the last minute. If a game is never released they can write off all the money they spent on it as R&D cost on their income tax and get a break on it. If they release the game they can't use the cost against their income tax, so they'd rather save money by not releasing potentially poorly selling games at all.
Man, I remember wanting Starfox 2 so bad.
Here's a few that were announced but really went nowhere:
Kimba the Lion- Back in the N64 days Nintendo was planning a game based on this old anime, the theme was "heart".
Farnation (DC)- Was supposedly a multi-player RPG that never surfaced.
Trigun (PS2/ Xbox)- Announced as a online title.
Capcom Vs Sammy (arcade)- Remember it announced at a game show but nothing afterwards. *-neo
I only skimmed through the thread so I don't know if this has been posted already, but: Unseen 64 (http://www.unseen64.tk), huge archive of beta and cancelled game screenshots and movies.
Shining Lore probably would've played like the rest of the Korean MMo crap out there, but the intro is cool.
Actually, it had nothing to do with the later Mana titles. Squaresoft simply wanted to use the trade name on another title. The FDS game never really went beyond the planning stages.

As for me, I still haven't gotten over Resident Evil 1.5. It may suck according to the developers, but they released enough media of the game for anyone to want more.
Heh. I've still got a promo stuffed panda from Shining Lore. He's got a toothy grin of pure malice.

Add EA's LOTR: White Council to the pile. Apparently, the whole project was a complete screw job and the man in charge was given the axe. Shame, it was the only EA game I could see myself spending money on.
It only sounded nice because of the concept - Oblivion in Middle-Earth. Bet you anything the game wouldn't have lived up to expectations.
Believe or not, there were actually three RE4 betas (not counting the RE4 beta that became Devil May Cry). Although, unlike RE1.5, I don't think any of them got beyond the experimenting stages.
Build 1 is the "Fog Version", shown at TGS 2002.
Build 2 is the "Hook Man Version", shown at E3 2003. Gameplay footage was later included in the Biohazard 4 Secrets DVD given away in Japan.
Build 3 is the "Zombie Version", which was rejected as being too formulaic and was never shown at public.
I heard rumors that ideas and concepts from Build 2 were developed into Haunting Grounds/Demento.
Here's an article which unravels some of the hidden content in the Resident Evil 4 demos.

I thought the hook man version was and extension of the fog version. It didn't look like an overhaul, anyway.
EDIT: Although, interestingly enough, The Hook man version looks to use the over the shoulder camera from the final RE4. I never noticed that. I wonder how it would have turned out. It looked good.
Rent a Hero seemed like a completely awesome game, and it's one of the few imports that I just can't play due to language barrier (Sega GaGa being the other one that I really wanted to play and just couldn't).
They announced a Kill Bill game back in the day, but it was later canceled. That's one I woulda really liked to play.
I remember seeing that on IGN. It still looks really badass. I wouldn't have minded playing that, even if what we ultimately got was great.
Check out this site for behind the scenes information on cancelled titles, including the demo wrongly assumed to be Final Fantasy 64 and one of them Earthbound games for SNES.
I was really looking forward to Planet Harriers on the DC.
I never got to play that in the arcade either. :(
Take the Bullet - DC.
I have no idea if it was going to be any good or not, but the idea of a bodyguard game seemed kinda cool.
That's a cool way to do QTEs.Quote:
Here's some gameplay footage.
Hard Drivin' had not one but two sequels developed to a mature stage of development and then canned.
Oh, Marble Madness II: Marble Man needs to me mentioned as well. I can't believe there's an asshole out there that owns 3 working cabinets of this.
Two games i was looking forward to for the xbox were from Phantagram.
Strident :a third person shooter
Duality:stealth action game
I heard rumors a while back that they may come to the 360,i hope thats true.(especially Strident)
I remember there was an action game called "Fire Team Rouge"announced for the SNES during the early 90's.
And i remember there was supposed to be a 3D Castlevania game coming to the DC.
Various Resident Evil 1.5 gameplay footage edited into one video.
That sound of flesh ripping as they were being pushed off is pretty nasty. It would've helped if they kept it for effect.
I just now found out about this on GameSpot... god I hate finding out about something that sounds cool by way of its cancellation. Sounds like you would have gotten to participate in The Old Took's defense of the Shire, that would've been badass. (Although that article does say it's just on hold... but we all know how often that pans out.)
In Prima's Guide for Ninja Gaiden X-Box that ECM wrote, it
has write ups on all the Ninja Gaiden Games. It mentions
the Mega Drive version and says it is the rarest of all the
titles. Back on the GameGo Boards I remember talking to a
guy who had the Mega Drive import, yet no hard evidence of
the game existing in cart form has yet to surface.
Prototypes do exist, but not a retail version.
Sure, but the way it has been written about lists it as a
released but super rare game. I figure that ECM if he did
that write up belived that it came out.
ECM also wrote about how Treasure made Contra and Gradius. He's not exactly the most reliable guy when it comes to history and the like. You've got much more credible authorities here on TNL at least.
When did ECM say that? I always thought he knew alot about
the Japanese releases, maybe it wasn't him. Still I'd love
to know the real story on the game. Like I said I could have
sworn that someone had a boxed copy at the GG Boards but it
was so long ago.

Here's some others that looked cool:
Steven Segal is the Final Option SNES
Green Lantern SNES
Eminem - PSX
