Well, I for one would prefer a company that loses money to satisfy gamers than a company that makes money and shits on their fans with crap.

I figure there are a couple reasons Nintendo could be releasing the system at a gain.
-The most obvious reason is Nintendo is a far smaller company than Microsoft or Sony. As such, it is far harder for it to take a risky move. From a financial standpoint, if a small company such as nintendo were to take a large financial risk, it could have other larger negative effects, including increasing thier costs of borrowing money. This negative effect would be negated somewhat by the much larger asset holdings of the sony and microsoft companies.
-The (to my knowledge) undisclosed R&D costs of developing the Wii as opposed to the PS3 and Xbox360. This is not to say that it was indeed more than its competitors, but that is a strong possibility, as the controls appear to be very well done from the responces I have read on these boards. Also, updating technology tends to take less R&D esp if the new technology is being outsourced, depending on the deal made in outsourcing, the cost of the R&D could be included in the purchasing price from the developing company to either sony or microsoft. To put it more simply, R&D costs could be playing a part in this.

No it isn't. The hardware architecture is virtually identical (other than using a different type of RAM). The controller has been around for years. There is no RnD here.
