I figured we could use the new thread, since the Knights of the Nine quest is on the marketplace (800 points) and the PS3 version hits in a few months (lol).
Anyone DL the quest? I'll be getting this week, hopefully.

I will download it when I get home today. I need to get back in the saddle and play this game to completion.
Awesome, I'm definitely going to down load this when I get home. This game is seriously like crack. I stayed away for a few weeks due to school and Gears of War, but I started playing again a couple of days ago, and it's so hard to put down now.
It's funny how the new quest was going to be exclusive new content for the PS3, and 360 owners not only got it, but got it first!
I'm still playing the regular game, just finished the Dark Brotherhood questline. Awesome stuff, I'm liking this better than Morrowind already (and Daggerfall, though there are still some things from Daggerfall I wish they'd bring back).
I'll get it once I'm done with the single player campain of GoW.
its been pushed to dec 4th on pc, but yeah, religious faction, for a guy who became head of the temple, cult and house redorian? yeah thats a must dl, now gimmie some polearms to complete this game.
I'll download and play it tomorrow.
Anyone have any idea how long it's supposed to be?
yeah, thats the thing, the box set for the pc is out now, it contains all the dl's from horse armor to kotn. but you can download directly from bethesda's website, and thats not up till the 4th, the retail pack would be useless to me since i have about half the dl's already.
It was longer than that for me. I'd say 15 hours easy.
No shit?
Damn, I am so happy I built up a super powerful thief.
Not bad at all for $10. I've got around 180 hours into the game, but never did the dark brotherhood quests. Between that, and the d/l material (haven't done any of them), looks like I've got a good 30+ hours to mess around with this.
I'm almost at the Xbox 360 saturation point: I've got a glut of very good games, and not enough time to play them all. No more purchases for me until Lost Planet. Maybe.
I haven't bought a game since September. I was going to get PSU, but got to deep into Oblivion to have time for both. I don't even have Gears of War yet, I know I'd never find the time. I think I'm likely going to end up passing on Lost Planet...Gears, Alan wake and Mass Effect are the only things I really plan on buying over the next year. 360 games have almost too much content.
well, if the 360 gets as many great western rpg's as its predecessor did, it will be amazing. now we just have to see mass effect being as good as kotor.
Yeah, so I just realized what I was doing when I stopped playing for a time: The Vampire Cure quest.
I am now almost done with the entire quest, and now I find out there is an easier cure: The Vile Lair.
Well, at least I can say I did it the old-fashioned way, and without item-duping or exploiting.
KotOR was freaking boring, and if it wasn't about Star Wars everybody would've ignored it like they did Jade Empire.
agreed
You're a moron. KOTOR is one of the best RPGs ever made. I don't even like Star Wars. Jade Empire was ignored because it was short and the combat sucked.
STAY ON TOPIC, GODDAMNIT!
So, I've finished out all the guild quests; the last one for the Thieves Guild where you had to dungeon crawl through the Imperial Sewers and into the Palace to steal an Elder Scroll was a harrowing, but rewarding experience. Now I'm finally working my way through the main questline, nearly 70 hours of game played and I'm not bored yet.
Same. I never even bothered learning how to do it. I wasn't in any kind of a hurry, though. While I enjoyed a lot of the quests, I frequently would just load out my character, and start walking off into the forests, mountains, etc. and see what's out there. A lot, as it turns out.
OXM #66 mentioned that an expansion pack is coming, and you can import your character!
Some finnish site says the name of the expansion is called "Shivering Isles" and that Zenimax Media/Bethesda already has it trademarked.
Expansion called Shivering Isles?
In any case I'm getting it day one.
God yes! Please let this be so.
Damn, Oblivion is the game that keeps on giving. It's been out more than a year and there's STILL content coming. Amazing.
360 version with achievements please.
Nope. Ah wait, Oblivion wasn't a 360 launch title; that's right. Well, it's been about a year by now anyway, and if this news pans out, we'll have yet another awesome DL to play, and perhaps the best yet.
lol
little news for the 360 owners, for a limited time the mehrune's razor mod is free to dl.
Already bought it. :(
Ah well, it's worth the DL, so everyone should jump on this.
oh and for my fellow pc users...well bethesda continues to hate us :P
Oblivion is getting a Japanese release. Pigs seen flying.
http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/...22/xbox360.htm
http://www.dengekionline.com/data/ne...621a49223.html
you know, im actually interested in seeing how this sells. the japanese love a very specific type of rpg, and oblivion aint it, but who knows, maybe they will see how good the world of western rpg's are and there might at least be a niche market growing. pity it wasnt morrowind instead, oblivion kicked much ass, but morrowind was a bit better.
I kinda hope they are inspired to create some kind of oblivion clone so that we can play as record of lodoss war type anime characters using a similar engine. :D
ban pls
Oburuvu, Desu Ne! confirmed for 2008 release.
kajiit have no time for desu-ne.
just wanted to bump this thread, the shivering isles expansion is apparently official. they have shots and info in the upcoming pc gmaer, summarized in this forum thread.http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/i...owtopic=611255 apparently it will focus on the daedra of madness, and as such will be quite weird, they mention some more humor and a segment where you have the option to torture some wayward adventurers in a manner very similar to the old tecmo decption games. allow me to be the first to say, there better be fucking polearms.
Here's some more info from Gamespot:
360....360...360...360...please!Quote:
The first official expansion pack is on its way for the hugely popular The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, report British gaming magazines PC Gamer and PC Zone. The title has already spawned one add-on big enough to be sold on its own in The Knights of the Nine.
Titled The Shivering Isles, the first full Oblivion expansion will add a whole new land to explore. The Isles, which are also known as the Realm of Madness, will be divided into a northern area (Mania) and a Southern area (Dementia). A town called Split on the Mania-Dementia border has two of every citizen, and one of the quests will be to solve this doppelganger mystery.
The Shivering Isles are reachable through a door set in a strange statue and located on a small island that appears in the water in Niben Bay near Bravil. Players will be able to move between Cyrodiil--the realm of the original Oblivion--and the Shivering Isles freely.
The expansion will contain more than 30 hours of new gameplay with branching quest storylines, and the landscape itself will change according to the decisions players make during their adventures. There will also be new creatures, dungeons, and quests. Two of the new monsters include a Gatekeeper, a golem-style creature made up of stitched together body parts, and the Knights of the Order, which are made from tree roots.
Released in November, the boxed PC edition of Knights of the Nine featured a new multipart quest, as well as all of the game's previous pay-per-download updates. The Knights of the Nine was also released on the Xbox 360 as a download available through the Xbox Live Marketplace and will be included in the PlayStation 3 edition of Oblivion when it releases later this year. Neither magazine mentioned whether or not the expansion pack content would be available on other platforms.
A spokesperson for Bethesda Softworks confirmed the expansion's existence but declined to reveal further details at this time.
they would be insane not to, thus far in sales threads i have seen on tesforums, the xbox 360 version was handily outselling the pc counterpart. so id imagine that 360 and ps3 will both be feeling the shivering love. my hope is, polearms please?
I got the new OXM today and the new expansion is on the cover. Suppose to add like 30 hours to the game. Theres also a video preview of it on the disk.
So it's coming to 360 for sure? Awesome.
Better have achievements.
Nope, no achievements, since the main game used up the allotted 1000 points and 50 achievements. :(
No sale. That's a stupid ass precedent to set. Retail expansions should get at least the XBLA 200.
No.
True story, I was playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Oblivion on my pc the other day and was like... shit, no achievements.
:( (BUT THEY WERE FREE LOL)
OK so I haven't posted here in a couple of years and didn't really know if this is the proper thread but I'm gonna ask anyway.
So without spoiling this, I'm on the last theives guild quest (The Ultimate Heist) and after I give the ring to the countess she sits down backwards and I'm stuck in cinematic mode (i.e. I can't move). I know other people have run into this bug, but I have have yet to find a solution. I want my last 50 achievement points, dammit! As much as I love this game I also think it's a totally buggy, glitchy P.O.S. Anyway, anyone know what to do? Thanks.
So, after dl'ing the Knights of the Nine, I made a new character to play it (since my existing character was a thief/assassin and I had already read that you couldn't feasibly do both since the KotN stuff requires 0 infamy) and started into the KotN questline first thing. Big mistake. Not that it was hard mind you - just the opposite. The quests were all balanced to my low level, allowing me to basically breeze right through the whole thing and leaving me unsatisfied about the experience.
Adjust the difficulty slider. That worked for me when I was one hit-killing everyone.
IGN has some hands-on impression of Shivering Isles. Apparently, it will include 10 achievements worth 250 points!
Still no release date though. :(
This game is really starting to wear on me. The scaling enemies thing is so out of wack it's gotten to the point where every single thing I face is more powerful than I am.
It's like, beat enemy > heal > go watch tv while mana regenerates > save > fight enemy. It takes forever just to get through a dungeon.
I'm going to try and start figuring out ways to break the game, because that's the only way it's going to stay any fun for me. I'm playing as mainly a stealth character, but after a while that's pretty useless - daggers can't hold enough charge to be truly useful as magic weapons, especially given that you need to hit more with them than other type. They just run out too fast.
I generally liked the scaling enemies, but it's true that a stealth based character gets hit the hardest with this system since you are often leveling up non-combat based skills. Beefing up illusion (night eye, invisibility, and chameleon) and marksmanship should help.
My character's basically a nightblade. I've got destruction spells instead of marksmanship. It sucks, even though I've got decent stats my spells seem to have little effect on anything major. God forbid I see an ogre, I spend an hour running around in a circle while he chases me as I intermittently fire off ineffective ice spells while my mana restores. Storm atronachs are epic 20 minute battles.
Alot of it is that I'm using lower tier spells because I just don't have enough magicka. However often I ramp up my intelligence it never seems to add up to enough to cast more than a couple of spells before I'm dry.
Sneak attacks do a good amount of damage, but it's tough to consistently backstab - I end up having to change out of all my good armor, praying they don't turn around, hitting them, then changing it all back. It's kind of a huge pain.
Strange. I'm a nightblade too, but I'm kicking all sorts of ass. My lower-tiered spells do a decent amount of damage, but I also mix it up with a lot of sword play. If you've completed the Dark Brotherhood questline, you get a lot of cool stuff that enhances your stats, particularly blade and stealth stats.
Potions. Just pick up every random potion you find. Sell the ones you don't want to buy the ones you do (health, magicka, fatigue).
Anyway, Shivering Isles looks like it will be awesome. Anything having to do with Sheogorath is awesome. Fork of Horripilation, anyone?
Pricing and release for SI. It's coming March 27 for 2400 MS points ($30).

It's no more expensive than Blood Moon or Tribunal were, so that's no big deal. It's pretty lame that it'll cost as much as the retail PC version though. Yeah they have to pay licensing fees to MS for the 360, version, but there's no shipping, packaging, disc burning, distributor or retail margins. I'm crying foul on this one.
The content also kind of highlights how weak Oblivion's plot is compared to Morrowind. Tribunal built on Morrowind's plot incredibly well, Shivering sounds like it's just a side story based off the same game.
Still day one, though.
well, kind of, and kind of not. the shivering isles deals with a character who pops up in some books but is kind of an "unknown force" jyllyag (or however you spell it) and a major entity from the daedra, sheogorath, who seems to bea lot more active than heircine was in bloodmoon. so it kind of follows oblivions "clash of the titans" feel.
I will say, that since im getting it on pc, im not batting much of an eye at the price, its standard for pc expansions, and while it dosent have the manufacturing costs, development is getting more and more expensive. Basicly, it brings back the nice weird world of morrowind, so its so day one for me that its not even funny.
Plus, a modder (pepsi) who has successfully converted the minotaur headbutt animations to player attacks is going to be trying to bring over the flesh golem's martial arts attacks to give us proper hand to hand strikes, so if i get a good roundhouse kick for my blue lizardman, ill be in an upper level of heaven :D
With the changes made recently to the achievement requirements, along with the cost of this expansion, might we see achievements in Shivering Isles? That makes sense, but no one has said a word on it so far.
I know I'm going to cave on this, as I've been itching to get back into Oblivion. Adding achievements would make it all the more enticing.
Yes, and iirc Bethesda were the ones that convinced Microsoft to allow achievement points in DLC.
Really? I hadn't seen that. Awesome.
I guess I have no excuse now. If it is another 30 hours or so, then I most definitely will be getting this. The sad thing is that they said this will be the last expansion (for the 360 at least). Bethesda went above and beyond with the DLC as far as I'm concerned. More developers should follow their lead.
this is still download ONLY for the 360 right? if so i agree that the price point should not be the same as a tangible, rack bought copy.
I'm only getting it if there's achievements.
In all honesty, nothing else will really motivate me to put more time into this game.
There's 250 achievement points, that's been confirmed multiple times.
But yeah the price is pretty BS.
Here's a Q & A re: the new expansion: http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/i...owtopic=649965
Given the price, I don't like the idea of not even having the option to purchase a tangible product. But the expansion does sound great. I'll be downloading this upon release.
IT'S OUT IT'S OUT IT'S OUT IT'S OUT!
LEECHING IT NOW
NOT APPEARING IN 'NEW CONTENT' YOU HAVE TO VIEW ALL DOWNLOADS AND GO TO OBLIVION TO SEE IT.
GOGOGOGOGOGO BEFORE THE MAINTENANCE
JUST UNDER 1GB
Fuck, I'm 800 points short. :(
Ah well, it can wait until payday. I still need to finish Knights of the Nine anyway.
I think I'll wait for the inevitable Platinum Hits version with all the downloads included so I can save some HD space.
I'm thinking about it. Anyone know if the game smoother now?
I planned on getting this for a long time, but I am having a hard time pulling the trigger on $30.
since bethesda continues to hate their pc users, i will be getting it in the stores tommorow. circut city better have it, because im not entering an eb again.
Found this on Gaming Age, so take it as you will:Quote:
I bought it and played for a little bit. I don't know how to put this....it looks good. But there is definitely not that attention to detail as in the normal game. There is massive clipping problems, I have walked through a lot of branches. The encounters are not really well-thought out, and the new enemies are cheap. For example, this one new enemy knocks you unconscious over and over and over and over again. Another enemy keeps causing your guy to get "shell-shock" after hitting him, no matter what.
Also the shitty FPS, and the stuttering are not helping either.
I feel burned. Really, really burned.
I'm in little rush since there's no disk for this.
I'm hoping before I go through with a purchase they release a retail package.
I just got through playing about an hour or two of it, and I didn't have nearly as many problems as that. Sure, there was a graphical stutter here and there, but I had that with the main game. The new weapons, armor, enemies, and the world itself especially show a high level of detail.
wonder if they'll put the 360 version out on a disc. 1gig dl is out of question here in baghdad.
Hrrrm. I'm probably going to DL this on the weekend, unless there are more bad impressions. I'll wait for the word to roll in, I'm in no huge rush here - I've still got a ton of Mehrune's Razor left to do.
yeah, i was really surprise how big mehrune's razor quest was. i half way expected to end at the mine after the underground village, which in itself was already bigger than anything ms released at the time. i probably sinked couple of hours getting lost in the sunken ruin after the village. :/
