Just a quote from 1Up's latest Treasure interview about VC:
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156213
Not only that, S&P is almost entirely in english, but knowing how dumb NOA is, nobody there will be pulling to bring it over.Quote:
1UP: So when are we going to see Sin & Punishment?
Masato Maegawa: Ah yes, it was on the Virtual Console list that Nintendo released a while back. They are planning to put it out on VC at some point, but it's probably going to be a while still. It's really up to Nintendo in terms of how they want to stagger things out - they could probably put 1,000 games on there tomorrow if they wanted, but obviously they don't want to do that.
He also comments that he's very excited about the possibility of releasing some kind of content on Live Arcade. :tu:
Any news on what's hitting VC Monday? New Year's blew. Fucking Urban Champion. It's like Nintendo was a fat man in a thong at a New Year's party.
The classic controller is very nice. I grabbed a few VC games last night to try it out, although I'm annoyed that I can't run them from the SD card instead of the HDD.
This will be fun to grab TG16 and Genesis games + anything I never owned before from Nintendo. (I was late the the Genesis game.. about the launch of the Sega CD late).
The fact that Sin and Punishment never came out in the US (even though there was all but ready to ship) plus the fact that Nintendo has a dumb policy of not releasing VC games in regions where they were not published to begin with means the odds of that game hitting American Wiis is zero. It'll probably be a Japanese-only game.
Standard. <Insert common complaint about Nintendo sitting on a bunch of English-ready games never released in the US that would be perfect for the VC but will never get released.>
There's the whole region-lock thing, but nothing i'm aware of that says game from one region can't be brought over to another. Hudson guy from the GAF forums acts like Rondo would be possible, and Super Mario Bros. 2-J (released as part of Allstars, but never for the NES) is supposedly rated for US release. There probably won't be untranslated out of region games released, but as for old games released in new regions, that's possible. Unless Reggie Fils-Aime stops it with his fat head.
Why the hell would a Hudson employee be talking about a Konami release like that. I seriously doubt you would see Rondo of Blood on the VC anyway, given the size constraints of the internal flash memory.
This policy is already apparent -- try downloading PC-E^H^H^H^HTG-16 games in Australia. Nintendo will not let you, explicitly because that system never came out in Australia (I would find the link with that quote, but I'm tired).
Moral of this story: Region-locking content provided over the Internet is really stupid. Even the casual users are onto this shit, and core users are really getting up people's butts about this now.

"The game was set to be released in America from day one (Nintendo of America is listed in the credits, along with confirmation from Masato Maegawa) and even generated some hype; IGN and Gamers' Republic gave it a lot of press, along with NextGen, and Nintendo showcased it at E3 2001. "
I remember it seeming like it was already a done deal by the time it came out. The IGN review mentions nothing about it coming over, and i don't think Gamers' Republic did either. GP was big on imports anyway, and as OMG TREASURE as GameFan, being run by Halverson and everything. Even at E3 2001, it was said that it wasn't planned for US release http://ign64.ign.com/articles/095/095062p1.html
It's just a small light of hope. That's why i brought it up.Quote:
unless theyre bringing over the actual J-NES rom, but it still stands. a version of the game was released here regardless and thats why they would release it for the US VC.

Gradius® (NES®, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Across the galaxy, there exists a distant planet known as Gradius. Gradius' peaceful existence has been brought to an end by an intense space invasion by a race known as the Bacterion. To save the planet, the hyperspace fighter Vic Viper has been deployed to fight the Bacterion invasion. Players pilot the Vic Viper through seven stages, shooting and dodging through deadly obstacles, while using various power-ups, including missiles, lasers, options and shields. The Vic Viper's target is the enemy fortress, Xaerous. The only way to end the war is to plunge deep through the enemy forces and destroy its very core.
Soldier Blade® (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): A new shooter in the "Star Soldier" tradition. Players play as an SIA (Special Interception Airforce) pilot flying the heavy assault fighter "Soldier Blade." Players face the Zeograd invasion force with weapon attacks that change each time they grab a power-up item. Players can unleash three different kinds of attack depending on the color of the power-up item. New features, such as the "Gunbody" option for avoiding enemy attacks and the "Burst Out" system (which has a different effect depending on the power-up level), add a strategic element that requires players to make snap decisions about which items to grab and when to use special attacks. Awesome boss battles await players at the end of each operation. Playing in "CHALLENGE" mode requires players to try to get as many points as they can in a limited amount of time.
Dungeon Explorer™ (TurboGrafx16, 1-5 players, 600 Wii Points): Dungeon Explorer is a multiplayer action/role-playing game where up to five players can play at the same time. The story takes place in underground dungeons. Players can choose from eight different character types: Fighter, Thief, Warlock, Witch, Bishop, Elf, Bard or Knome. Depending on the character, the types of magic, attack strength and movement will all vary. To survive, players most know all about their enemies' weaknesses. Players also must know about the special attributes of each magic spell and use them to their greatest advantage. In team-play games, working together is the key to victory. Any combination of Wii Remotes and Nintendo GameCube™ controllers can be used in multiplayer games.
After the psp Gradius Collection, i don't care about that one. The other two are great, even if Dungeon Explorer should've been last week.
Sin and Punishment is the only VC game released or announced that I would guaranteed pay money for. Ice Hockey would join that if it had online.
Make me care, Nintendo. Please.
Damn, whats Nintendo's problem? More shit.
Soldier Blade is hardly shit.
I don't even remember solider blade coming out for the TG-16.
Did you like Super Star Soldier? It's a sequel to that.
Soldier Blade is probably the third best game on the VC behind Castlevania IV and Mario 64. Yes, you should buy it. You non-TG owners should be hanged.
Serious question for the Wiinies (I'm totally trademarking that) out there... how good does 480p look on the VC games? Is it noticeable enough to pay $5, $6, or $10 to get it?
Coincidence, just found my Soldier blade Hu card yesterday, it was hiding between some NES games
Edit: I think I actually bought it from Shidoshi
480p on VC is nice. I can actually play the old games on my HDTV now without bitching how blurry and shitty looking they are.
The retro gamer in me is loving your responses. My wallet wants to choke you.
Well, looks like they either don't want people to buy Dungeon Explorer, or they think it's so popular and well known that don't have to put it on the new releases page of VC.
How is Dungeon Explorer, for those who've played it? I've been very curious about it, and even more so now that I know it's multiplayer.
I was a huge fan of Dungeon Explorer. It's Gauntlet with a storyline. Natas was bad ass.
debde debda FTW!
If the prices on everything for the VC were slashed in half, everyone would be delighted with it (some would still want online and achievements, but it wouldn't be a sticking point) and I guarantee sales would more than double. I'd piss away $2.50 for SMB on my Wii but not $5.
You can set them to whatever resolution, but the window gets really tiny if you do. I believe 480p is the best you can realistically get.

Q1 Genesis Games:
Streets of Rage (1. lol)
Bio-Hazard Batle
Bonanza Brothers *
Gain Ground *
Comix Zone *
* emulated perfectly already on Sega Genesis Collection on PS2
Does Sega Genesis Collection run in 480p?
Yes.
Accept proof.
LOL, ouch. Right now XBLA and PSN are driving a truck over VC. I've actually been fairly impressed with PSN so far. Better than expected :tu:
Agreed. I really hope the gaming press starts drilling someone at NOA over this. I'm sure an editor somewhere sooner or later will ask them point blank why a gamer should buy VC over XBLA or PSN (I could see Shoe from EGM doing that easily in his "Peter Moore mode").
On a more positive note though, Soldier Blade for $6 is a bargain. It's a great shooter and used to go for a lot of money on ebay. It's still somewhat difficult to find a complete copy.
That's an underrated game, a very unique looking shooter.Quote:

My TV doesn't support 480p, but in 480i with component NES/Genesis/SNES games look as good as they have every looked on anything. With the video output of the Wii being better than the past systems, they look better on the Wii than on the original systems. The TG16 is the exception, with its (slight) bluriness it still looks best out of a genuine TurboDuo.
LoZ:OoT US VC please :D
Then I guess Nintendo's not getting my microtransaction money; XBLA might not have the same caliber games, but I'll take online Uno over roms of games I've owned for 15 years anyday.
OMG something intelligent from SpoDaddy. http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/699/iconv9kz.gif
People like to shit on the old XBLA releases, but at least it costs me more than five to ten bucks to find an old arcade board of Robotron or SF2:HF.
And you can't play said old arcade board with someone 3,000 miles away.
If SF2:HF had a lag-free online mode it'd single-handedly make XBLA the greatest thing ever created. The original Xbox had better online Street Fighter.
The only person that lagged with me on SFII was Josh, and his was really bad.
Yeah. My shit sucks and I hate it.
Shut up. I'm talkin' about Joust. It's plenty worth $5.
pocchari's worth $5
I'm worth more than 5 dollars ;(
That's what i said! I think bbobb's trying to say you're worthless because he can find you for free on the internet.
But Macs are smug hipsters! Don't you want to be a smug hipster?
PC's are lame geeks! Do you want to be lame geek?
Not really. For yrs and yrs and yrs you've been able to upgrade your G3 and G4 processor in a Powermac through third parties.
http://www.powerlogix.com/
http://www.sonnettech.com/
http://www.gigadesigns.com/
And it's not like the RAM and video cards couldn't be updated as well.
Plus, people have been taking out the intel chips of Mac Minis, iMacs, and Mac Pros and sticking in the newer ones. It's worked fine so far.
So, yeah.
... I didn't know you could do that. The future is full of possibility!
You're excused. Anyone living in the US that doesn't do graphic design who has bought a Mac is an even bigger idiot than anyone who has bought a PS3. I have no words for people who fit both groups.
Can you build a Mac from scratch with off the shelf parts?
You post real specs, and I'll cut the price in half with a built PC.
Macs carved a niche out precisely because they are overpriced (so uneducated consumers think they are getting a better machine because of higher price). That's how they get started, at least that's what my econ professor told us.
I don't think it's the price. I think there is a small group of people who buy shit just to be different.
Mac has 5,000,000-bit graphics and a 5 terrahertz gigaflopper.
I <3 mac because i'm a smug too fat to be a hipster.
I am more asking, because looking at competitors pricing, the Mac is a great deal:
http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/...180848&Redir=1
http://www.dell.com/content/products...=04&l=en&s=bsd (configure it like an Apple)
Compared to:
http://www.apple.com/macpro/ (you can go to the online store and look at prices yourself, it's finicky about letting me link)
So, yeah, it's less the competitors, can run Windows (and OSX), is upgradeable, etc. I don't see the problem.
I searched and configured a system (don't forget Bluetooth, wireless card, keyboard and mouse, case as quality as the Mac Pro's, Windows software and extra software equivalent to what comes with Mac) and it went around the same price as the middle grade Mac Pro.
Hey, fuckers start a big ol mac gay love thread and keep this shit out of here.
So you post a link that boasts of 4 million possible configurations and that uses a freaking Xeon processor, which is complete overkill for anyone's home machine. Why would anyone buy that? There is literally nothing other than graphics design that wouldn't waste 90% of that horsepower. Not even PC games would scratch that. That's why it's so expensive everywhere.
Well, I could also do the same thing with the iMac...which is very competitive price-wise as well (and it seems people have had success upgrading the chip, it can run Windows, etc). And a Macbook and Macbook Pro (which, yes, are laptops and cannot really be updated much. but, can PC Laptops?).
Ok, no more Mac stuff from me. VC still sucks 2 minutes later.
The day Apple decides to release a stand alone motherboard (lol) is the day I'll consider one.
That, or the day I've got hueg cash to burn.
edit: Laptops are a completely different matter. Hell, you're an idiot if you buy anything but an Apple laptop.
I'm sorry to hear that your a lactose racist and you bought a mac.
Back in the day my Sakura was to be FEARED fucking feared I tell you. So was your damn Dan.
You can and you can't as far as the video card goes. You have to upgrade to a card that has mac OSX drivers, unfortunately for mac users the latest and greatest cards usually don't.
If you know the right places to shop you totally can. I built a new system in September when the Core 2 Duo's had just come out. It was a Core 2 Duo E6600, Asus motherboard forget the exact model right now but it had USB, Gigabit ethernet, Optical out for Audio, lots of expansion ports, a 250 Gig Western Digital SATA drive, a 3 port firewire card, a 16x Lightscribe enabled DVD DL burner from Lite on, 2 gigs of ram, and a FireGL 5200 card (I went that route since I use the machine for school doing 3d animation and video editing) in the end all added up together it cost me about 1400 bucks, most the macs I've seen with similar specs are more than that, and I'm not sure if any of the FireGL cards have drivers for macs.
I just personally prefer building my own, because then I get to decide every single piece of hardware that goes into the machine. I like having that level of control so until apple lets go of its clamp on macs and lets me build my own I just have no interest in them.
You posted more than 3 off topic posts, it's a written rule. Deal.
As for the gay remark, I'll take my card, and not cry over it like a bitch.
Furthermore, congratulations, you and PBMax now share something in common. Enjoy that bit of information.
lol
