Wii Weather is bad ass and it has balls and a huge dick, with which it rapes hot women who have large breasts, and some are underaged. Usually it is drunk when doing this, but sometimes it is high. I would hope this Forecast Channel gets better. The functionality is nifty and it's fun to use, but it is pretty incomprehensible that it only displays weather for big cities and only updates every few hours (I checked it at 3:00 PM and it said the temperature was as of 10:00 AM).
I'm not getting into the argument of it's usefulness--I think it's neat, and that's good enough for me. But right now it's usefulness is pretty much nil. Until you can type in any zip code and get a weather readout from the past hour, the Forecast Channel is only good for brushing up your geography.
Forecast Channel as it is now is useless. If it was a geography teaching game that happened to include a weather checking function then it would rock. Carmen Sandiego + Google Earth = awesomeness.

I wasn't defending the forecast app per se, just the validity of the concept.
The program itself might be complete ass, I haven't tried it yet, but the idea of having a weather forecast on the Wii isn't completely pointless.
I do think that it would be better if it didn't require returning to the channel menu, but that's how the Wii works because of its limited resources.

Just click on the forecast channel and you instantly get the "current" (more like semi-current) weather for your location. You can check it and be back to the Wii menu in less than 5 seconds. Wii Weather lets me know that, as of 6am um... okay, 5 hours into the future, it's 3 degrees and clear at the south pole. Anyway, it seems the Forecast Channel is always kept up-to-date (relatively speaking, since data seems to remain constant for several hour periods) through Connect24.
When you are at the Wii Menu, you can click the Forecast Channel icon to instantly get the current weather conditions and temperature in your area. There is no connecting etc., it's instant.
If you want more detailed information, you launch the full weather application. It takes a bit longer to load, but also does not go through an extensive connecting process -- that process must only be for the intial use. Again all data is kept current through Connect24.
To summarize, you cannot see the weather during a game, but checking it and getting back to your game takes about 20 seconds for a Wii/GameCube game and less than 10 seconds for a VC game.
But during a gaming session you are typically at the Wii Menu several times, so there is ample opportunity to get a quick update without disrupting gameplay.

I'm done talking about this. My entire point is that it's a simple to use, free feature that isn't worth the ridiculous extended debate and speculation of how the 360 would do it better. It's far from perfect, having laughably outdated (several hours old) weather information and only being remotely useful if you live in a major city. But I will probably use it every time I turn on the system to get a quick udate. If for some strange reason I have the irresistable urge to check the weather while playing a game, losing 20 seconds of my life really isn't a big deal.

As I said, the wii weather is really incredibly slick. It'd be nice to have pop-up announcements in-game but whatever I don't care much about the weather. I love spinning the globe around, and having the current weather for your location (if you live far from civilization I feel bad for you) loaded up so you don't have to launch the full app is sweet. All they'd need to change is the icon for forecast chanel displaying current conditions as well so you don't even have to click.
