Anyone planning on getting Far Cry?
My cousins broke the strap on Thanksgiving when I brought it over. They should all know better, they at least play GBAs and DSs.
Ordered replacement straps.
The IGN review of Farcry is up, and it doesn't look too good.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/751/751136p1.html
The first screen shot in that review almost does look like a really good N64 game. In fact, it looks just about as good as Turok Dinosaur Hunter. I knew the Wii was underpowered, but is it really THIS BAD? I thought the Wii was twice as powerful as the Gamecube? If this is true, why do parts of Red Steel, Farcry, and even ZELDA (fog INSIDE some of the dungeons!?) look more like the Nintendo 64?
n64.com used to rock.
Yeah, IGN swallowed and ruined several good sites.
Well, I have to admit that Turok doesn't look quite as great as I remember it looking. So, I guess that Farcry does look a little bit better. I still see too much of that fog going on in the background of the Farcry screen shot though. Seriously, I thought we were all finished with using "fog" to hide pop-up once the N64 era was over with. I'm honestly not really thrilled with the way the character model of that enemy looks either....and Farcry's flat trees look about the same as Turok's to me.
I guess I am still spoiled from playing games like Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas on the 360. However, the Gamecube can do much better FPS style graphics than that...Metroid Prime blows away those Farcry screens.
It's clearly a launch window cash run from Ubisoft. Their real developers are working on 360/PS3.
Agreed, I am not feeling the Wii love from UBI.
Farcry is a garbage port, it's not even up to par with GameCube games. I've never seen a major studio game take less advantage of the hardware it runs on. The Xbox version runs circles around the Wii version, and the Xbox version runs on a 700mhz Celeron while the Wii version is running on a 735mhz PowerPC (far more powerful and efficient architecture). There's just no excuse for it; take note Gooch, this is a real cash run.
No? Didn't see Gun on Xbox 360?...You seriously comparing clockspeeds of totally different hardware?Quote:

This is true.Quote:

I'm not much for putting skins on consoles, but those NES ones do look tasty, Bandit. Nice exposé.
Remember that Far Cry game for the GameCube that wound up getting cancelled due to being a piece of shit? I'll bet anything that this is that exact game with Wii controls added and shat out into retail. Hell, Ubisoft already did it once with that terrible racing game.
My fucking cable line outside the house snapped and was dangling when I got home from work. Called cable company to fix it and they put it as an "emergency" and should take 24 hours for someone to come. Lets see how long it takes or I'm going to raise hell.
I'm typing from the gfs place. Hopefully, I'll have it up by beginning of the week.
Oh god that's awful! They're both the exact same, awful game. Move slowly. Point a dot. Blip trigger. Move slowly. Point a dot. Blip trigger. Repeat.Considering I don't like playing online games, you shouldn't be surprised that I think Pandora Tomorrow--the only Splinter Cell game I've played through entirely--is a sack of garbage.Quote:
and RS:V is fantastic as well.
Every Tom Clancy game on the 360 is better than ZOE2 and SotC.
I'd like to read Mark Ryan saying that he has no interest in Assassins Creed so I can just completely write him off.
I'd take one Graffiti Kingdom over every Tom Clancy game ever made. Hell, I'd take learning to knit over the Clancy games, seeing that while both are tedious work, one produces a physical result. Welcome to the wonderful world of personal taste.

I can't imagine why I ignore every HGM review.
That's true. I actually paid for HGM.
So its been three weeks since I purchased my Wii and I couldn't possibly see how people are losing these Wiimotes and busting tvs.
Wow. So we had a Christmas party tonight. My three closest friends and their respective womens.
I could not tear them off of Wii Sports. I never thought I'd ever hear my friends who haven't touched a console in 5 years say they want to get a Wii now. Even two of the womens got into tennis as well.
Well played Nintendo, to say the least.
Had a dinner with the gfs relatives. Brought it over the house and all the adults were hooked on it. I'm talking about adults in their 50-60s. One aunt who you would never though think of playing games was anxious to play. Aunts and uncles joined in on the fun.
All were also asking how much it retailed for and so on.
Uh oh...

Strangely, despite the Wii hardware having its own friend list, Battle Revolution uses its own, independent friend list. Each game includes a unique 12-digit friend code, different from your Wii system number. To create a friend, both sides have to input the other's code. How you actually go about exchanging these codes is a mystery, as the information is not included on your battle pass. Once again, I presume Nintendo wants you to only exchange codes with your real life friends.
Fucking hell fuck shit fuck.
edit- I also just realised that the remote that came with my Wii Play already has the new thick strap on it...
http://www.dirty.org/users/tommy/wiistrap.jpg
It's also a bit shorter than the original.
The damn strap is too long to begin with.
Got the review up for the skin since there was enough time

This is the most homosexual thing ever made:

I am really looking forward to playing that game.
For anyone still looking there were remotes and nunchuk controllers available at every store I went to today.
Backup Wii games?!
They claim to expect it on 1.1.2007
I didn't know Wii games used standard DVD's, I thought it was some sort of proprietary DVD.
If that's for real I doubt it'll take long for Nintendo to do a firmware upgrade that neutralizes it.
I doubt it's real. There is a covenient edit in that movie, right after the photo viewer, where the machine is booting again. He just stuck the real Zelda disk in.
yeah if it is some bootloader working through the photo channel expect a firmware upgrade with the quickness that will make it not work.
Pirates will have to create some kind of devhook like the PSP has to emulate or load older firmwares when the system loads.
I wouldn't be surprised if it were also a movie playing in Photo Channel. Anyone else catch the "AVI" up in the corner?
It says AV1. As in, Audio/Video 1.
They zoomed WAY in on the text in the photo which would make it easy for somebody to swap the real disc in.
Don't get me wrong, I love to pirate, but I think this is a bit too convenient.
Those pirate videos are so stupid, with retarded music to try and give it a "badass" feel. I'd rather them just take a dump on the system and go "lol!"
It doesn't mean he's wrong.
so when does the VC next get updated? Also: When will my wii forecasts work?
Every Monday.According to this page, December 20th.Quote:
Also: When will my wii forecasts work?
I need a time. Monday when.
Weather on Wednesday, maybe? I don't know why I'm looking forward to this, seeing as I don't even follow the weather through normal channels.
James
It's time to steal a page from Jeff Foxworthy:
When you're excited not about games but about the weather channel...
...you just might be a Wii owner.
I'm totally turning this into its own thread, which some overzealous and shitty mod already moved to FC.
You will change your tune and can't wait to watch for redneck weather... oops I mean North Carolina weather watch when you get a Wii. Mark my words Yoshi.... mark them well.
Or, from another perspective-
If you got three great launch titles, had one of the best party games ever packed in the box, more titles on store shelves a few weeks later that you just can't afford, and a regular supply of (slightly overpriced) classic console gaming made available on a weekly basis, you may be a Wii owner.
Give it up, Yoshi. Your ability to troll has been really lame this week. Take some time off, hang with family, let them drive you batshit crazy, and come back when you can fling the vitriol properly. The two comments you've tossed my way in the last couple days have been far below what you're capable of.
James
I just said this in the VC thread, but I guess it belongs here--Forecast Channel is now available in PAL regions.
Bastard Europeans with their highfalutin' weather forcasting ways!
James
TNL EXCLUSIVE REVIEW OF THE GOTY:
The update takes longer than I had expected. There's actual content at the end of the video loller.
Kinda lame that I can't get weather for my local area, considering we have a military grade meteorology lab right fucking here.
Well, that's certainly the stupidest fucking thing I've ever seen.
There's this thing called the internet that's given us instant access to the weather for many many years now.
I would like to see somebody actually defend that as being worthwhile.
Oh and it's fucking hot in Aussie right now... christ.
BURN!!!
I'm trying to update my Wii Weather now.
My connection is being tested like it's never been tested before.
And nope, nothing yet. Why is Europe so special?
This has been a live update brought to you by the letter "My God I'm Bored!"
James
Yeah, again, why does it need to test your connection? I thought this fucking thing was always online.
LAME.
I received that Wireless Sensor Bar in the mail. I tried it out a little bit and it seems to work. I'll have pictures and more on the review when I get my internet back.
checked the weather this morning, now i know how to dress for the climate today. whoop whoop
This morning I woke up noticing that my slot was throbbing... so I updated. Anyone else notice that all over the world everyone has realistic clouds/sunshine/rain icons and Japan has cutesy poo desu ne stuff that looks like its from coloring books? Thought that was pretty silly.
ne?
Playing around with the Forecast Channel right now.
Nothing too interesting, but it's cool being able to spin the globe around like in Elite Beat Agents only with, you know, the whole world.

Green Welling LLP filed a nationwide class action lawsuit on behalf of the owners of the Nintendo Wii against Nintendo of America, Inc., in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The class action lawsuit arose as result of the defective nature of the Nintendo Wii. In particular, the Nintendo Wii game console includes a remote and a wrist strap for the remote. Owners of the Nintendo Wii reported that when they used the Nintendo remote and wrist strap, as instructed by the material that accompanied the Wii console, the wrist strap broke and caused the remote to leave the user's hand. Nintendo's failure to include a remote that is free from defects is in breach of Nintendo's own product warranty.
I really hate people.
Really.
That's just awful. Is the lawsuit on the behalf of chimps and apes across the country who, you know, can't figure out how to have a tight grip on a goddamn controller?
The speed at which this will get thrown out will be amazing.
Im to lazy to link it but Nintendo already said theyre doubling the thickness of the straps and recalling the millions out there already.
I agree though. People will find any way to blame others and to get money. We’ve evolved this much that we can no longer GRASP things without them being tethered to us?
It's clearly Nintendo's fault for instructing people, in the materials that accompany the console, to throw the Wiimote instead of holding onto it. They were just following Nintendo's instructions.Quote:

Oh, wait, Nintendo didn't say that. The lawyers lied in their pleadings. Whodda thunk?
The Forecast Channel's logo is fucking gross and generic compared to the other ones.
I dig the Forecast Channel, but why does it only cover major cities? As if there's not enough weather data on the Internet to track individual small cities and towns, too.
My xbox tells me the weather for any city with a zip code.
BECAUSE THIS ISN'T THE INTERNETQuote:

You shouldn't want old games that you haven't played from other countries, either! You can't read the text, that's silly! No enjoyment is had from playing games. Oh, and don't suggest that we translate them, either! We don't have the manpower! Plain and simple!
You see, we're working on the news channel! You don't need to see all of that searchable, indexed news on the internet. That's silly! We'll choose some appropriate news for you, as well as the channel listings for all of your favorite PBS stations so you'll never miss LazyTown again!
Here at Nintendo, we care about you! That's why we kicked you out of our store so readily on launch morning while only allowing you to buy one of each accessory while ToysRUs had a bearfuck load.
No. Its modded. Because I have a penis.
