I get the feeling you're right- I saw the fear in Rich's face during that fight. I think the Silva loss fucked up Franklin's head like in Rocky 3 when Clubber Lang beat down Rocky in their first fight and he lost the Eye of the Tiger.

Franklin's probably going to have to move to the ghetto and get trained by Apollo Creed to get over that shit.

I never said I liked Diego or that he wasn't an annoying dildo, I just said he's a great fighter with a win/loss record far better than a lot of guys that actually do get title shots.

I like Penn and all, but how does getting injured and losing the fight make him better than Hughes?

apparently Sivla had knee surgery like 11 weeks prior to his match with Lutter as well.

I'm tired of fighters' P.R. guys making up excuses for them after their fights. Franklin got his ass handed to him, flu or no flu, and he certainly looked fine when the fight started.

And Penn's injured ribs? Yeah, watch the fight again... If Penn's ribs were injured, it's because he took a body blow from Hughes that injured them.

You guys are unfair to Diego Sanchez, hating him because he thanks god at the end of every match. Just about every Mexican ever has been Catholic. Get over it.

i dont care what religion a guy is, just dont shove it down my throat when you're participating, and making a livelyhood beating on people. isnt catholicism against that anyway? hes a sumg punk that acts like hes above everyone and shutting them out while he "meditates" and talks to God. i also didnt like how after the Colts superbowl win we got the "boo hoo Dungy is black, he's had adversity" (while he counts his MILLIONS fo dollars....yeah theres some adversity, and "we all thank God" coming out of everybodys mouth when yet again, football is a violent contact sport and the furthest thing from organized religion. there's a time and a place for shit liek that and when you do it like they do it's annoying. but this is all for another debate.

Because Penn destroyed Hughes the first time they fought and was whooping his ass in the first round of the rematch until he got hurt.

Plus Penn is a natural 155 lber and Hughes cuts from 190 or so to get down to 170.

Don't get me wrong, I like Matt Hughes (even though he came off as a massive dick on TUF). But Penn is probably the most talented MMA fighter pound for pound in the world. If he would quit smoking so much pot and focus on his cardio he could not just beat but embarrass anyone in the world at 170 (he's fighting at 155 now). He's supposed to be a grappler but he was beating the crap out of St. Pierre on his feet until he gassed (and still the only reason he lost is because of the retarded boxing rules UFC is forced to use. Under Pride rules he wins that fight easy). And he schooled Matt Hughes on the ground. The man is gifted.

he seems to be gifted, at losing fights that he is "winning". so when he wins he is awesome but when he loses it's because he gets hurt (oh no!!) or gasses. we should just give him the title in every weight class and save us all a lot of time. ;) joe rogan used to be all over this guy's nuts, but he knows better now. penn is talented, don't get me wrong... and i'm really interested to see how he coaches on this next TUF... because of his attitude, i'm guessing he'll be the second worst coach right under hughes and above shamrock. i hope he proves me wrong.

wait. iirc most of matts matches before he was beat by GSP had his opponent having him in a submission situation, yet he always stayed calm and escaped. i don't remember Penn at ANY time "beating Matts ass".

That's because you started watching MMA during the original TUF.

UFC 46. BJ Penn defeated Matt Hughes at 4:36 of the first round by submission due to a RNC. Hughes had practically no offense the entire fight.

In the last four years his only loses have been a decision to Ryoto Machida, who fights at 205 lbs (a ridiculous weight advantage and he still couldn't finish Penn), a split decision to St. Pierre, where he spent the first round rearranging St. Pierre's face (seriously, watch this video from the hospital that night. St. Pierre's face was a fucking mess. Under superior Pride rules Penn would win that fight), and the TKO loss to Hughes where his ribs were fucked up. So yeah, I'll go ahead and say that he's awesome despite the fact that he has a few losses on his record.

Yeah, I don't think he'll be much of a coach either.

his next fight(i think) is against the other TUF coach, jans pulver, at the end of season 5. Jans looked pretty crappy on his return, maybe bj could redeem his loss to jans. I remember watching their first fight and being pretty excited the pulver won... i don't remember it being a blow out or anything though.
