Heck yea!

Overall the card was very enjoyable. The entire thing reminded me much more of a japanese mma show than an american show.

Good production values overall. Felt similar to a showtime or hbo boxing program.

All the matches were enjoyable and with the exception of a few production mishaps (which weren't bad considering it was a fledgling show) it was good stuff.

Not sure about that last match though.

lol @ the first thing out of Goldbergs mouth being "REN-ZOH".

Negative.

The last few years it's been total and complete crap (how the tourney has been run, crappy refs, etc). This year it's being handled by NAGA, which is a top notch orginization... so it's most likely going to be better.

But it's still a lot of time/money/driving to go all the way out there and have it be crap again.

Oh yea - and I popped my knee out of the socket three weeks ago and it feels like poop. heh :(

Just watched the EliteXC event. The fight between the ladies was great. While their ground game still wasn't really up to speed, it was a great fight that worked towards getting people to accept women in combat sports.

Also, this may seem like a small thing, but when they give the figthter's record they say how many KOs they have and how many submissions. I enjoy that quite a bit.

Frank knew the rules going in. He's an idiot. And he was my favorite fighter for years.

It must be annoying for MMA guys when they go from one company to another and have to overcome their fighting instincts in order to deal with a new set of rules. I was on YouTube watching come Cro Cop Pride fights and he was kneeing and kicking guys in the face when they were on the ground, which is a no-no in the UFC. Is it hard to make little changes in your fighting style like that while in the heat of the fight when you're used to a different ruleset?

If that Gracie vs. Shamrock fight continued the way it was going who would the judges give the fight to? I mean, Gracie took Shamrock down almost at will, but Shamrock was doing all the work on the ground while Gracie was just trying to move into postion. How would something like that get judged?

I would say it depends on the organization. The UFC has always been about "pushing the pace" moreso than "trying to finish the fight".

Actively jabbing your opponent multiple times in the UFC means more than getting takedowns and laying on the opponent while going for position (though the takedowns score and the position scores). The point is you need to remain active and utilize your position to make the most of it to score well.

In Pride, actively trying to finish the fight is the most important thing. They also score the whole fight whereas in the UFC it is a round-based scoring system.

I don't know how the EliteXC scores matches, but they have a 15 second ground clock for "inactivity" but I'll be damned if the clock didn't start the second they hit the floor (for better or worse). I would assume they score in a hybrid mix between UFC and Pride with a tad of important of stand-up over ground-game for their interests. I think the know they need knockouts more when trying to put forth an exciting product.

I personally like the differences in the orgs as they offer a different type of fight. I do think stomping the head of a downed opponent is a bit barbaric, and that Pride refs step in very late, but that is me.

PS: Anybody have an opinion on this: Is Herb Dean "lucky" to be at the center of controversy or does he bring it on himself?

what controversy is he in now? i didnt see the EliteXC if that's what he had to do with. i think he's a horrible ref that stops matches WAY to quickly in IMO.

Herb stopped Tito/Shamrock 2 way too fast, that's for sure, not that it would have changed the outcome if he had let it go on.
