Couture Signs 4-Fight Deal w/ UFC, Fighting Sylvia

Randy Couture appeared on "Inside the UFC" on Spike TV this past Thursday night and dropped his bombshell announcement.

And his announcement was this. He'll be returning to the octagon - to fight, at the age of 43 he'll be returning to his old stomping grounds of the Heavyweight division to challenge the champion Tim Sylvia.

That's right, coming from the 205 lb. weight class when he retired, Couture will take on the 6'8'' 265 lb. [COLOR=blue! important][COLOR=blue! important]Heavyweight [COLOR=blue! important]champion[/COLOR][/COLOR][/COLOR] in his first fight back at UFC 68 "The Uprising" in Ohio for his title belt.

Randy Couture went on to announce that he signed a four-fight, two-year contract that will see him competing in the eight-sided cage until he is 45 years old.

Wow, that IS a surprise. Either Randy got bored real fast sitting at home or Dana White made him a big fucking offer.

Still, it doesn't seem fair- the guy lost his last two fights. I guess the UFC is all about politics and setting up the big PPV fights and not about the pecking order or earning a legit shot at a title.

Exactly what I was thinking. Thing is, there really isn’t anybody in the heavyweight division that could pose a threat or that Silvia hasn’t beaten already. So yeah, huge payday, plus him retiring not too early, but at the wrong time, combined with a relative lack of interest for that weight class. Seems to be a no-brainer. Couture is right up there with GSP for favorite fighter but I think he’ll get mauled. Heavy isn’t his natural weight and his last 2 fights in that class were losses. With that being said I still feel if anybody (currently) has a chance to beat Silvia, it’s him. I just HATE when people pull “Lemieux’s”.

diego sanchez is a prime example.
granted I still feel he needs just a little bit more experience but there have been many other fighters given a title shot with HALF the fights he has.

I call it right now, 2 more wins and Bisping has a title shot. He’s got the look and personality that the UFC loves.

I mean, I understand that, above all else, the UFC is a business and they need to set up the big fights to make those big PPV paydays, but it's still unfair to all the guys who bust their asses match after match to see this old guy who just got his ass handed to him in his last two fights getting yet another title shot.

It's really funny that you should post this, because I was going to say the same exact thing about Diego in my post above but got lazy and didn't bother typing it. :) But you're 100% right. Randy loses and keeps getting shots, while Diego keeps winning match after match- where's his fucking title shot? He deserves it more than anyone else I can think of.

So, if Randy loses against Silvia will he drop weight and maybe try against CSP for his next match? Maybe he could just go around losing and gaining weight until he wins a title in one weight class or another.

Well GSP is what, welter or middleweight? Randy has only dropped from heavy to light heavy I believe, so the chance of him stepping in with GSP are slim. Thing is, GSP will have to fight Serra his next match so who knows when that will be rescheduled.

Yo, Kidnemo's gots peeps on da inside.

I think the UFC knows they have to rid Silvia of the title... his last two fights have been atrocious due largely to his effective yet extremely boring fighting style. Hopefully Crocop comes in a kicks everyone to death.
