Yes, because chainsawing people in half really ruined GoW. Oh wait, I'm mistaken, it just made the game kick that much more ass. Compared to GoW, Halo 2's gameplay is boring and slow, not to mention broken with the noob combo and sword. I really could care less about playing Halo 2 with super shiny 360 next gen graphics if its the same old shit.

I'm sure they'll add a dash button or steal the cover system from GoW/RSV. I'll be suprised if any FPS doesnt have one from now on.

During the 1up multiplayer preview, Bungie made a mention about not having to activate 'the X button'. It was implied that Bungie was working on a cover system with the X button. After the success of GoW, I'm guessing they will implement it in the final game.

I want a cover button just so long as you can't blind fire.

Blind fire works in GoW, but it would completely ruin Halo.

The problem with Halo with me personally is the size. I think the best online games are either massive or tiny. 8 vs. 8 is neither.

Here's my top four online games ever:

1. SCPT (2 vs. 2)
2. Battlefield 1942 (64 vs. 64)
3. Gears of War ( 4 vs. 4)
4. World of Warcraft (yeah, I know not really a versus game. Eat a dick)

Team Slayer is 4v4 and Double Team is 2v2.

So, what exactly are you crying about?

Doesnt matter if it's 2 vs. 2 when you're playing on maps the size of Lockout. It's too big.

4v4 is awesome on Gridlock and that map is at least twice the size of Lockout. I mean, you don't have to like Halo 2 more than GoW (I don't even like Halo 2 more than GoW) but your reason for not liking it more shouldn't be player count or map size.

I think Halo 2 is an awesome game, and plays better than other console FPS, not to mention has superior matchmaking and game modes.

I just wish they'd either put out giant maps with all sorts of vehicles and make it a 20 v. 20 type of game or concentrate more on making it fun on a small scale. Larger scale seems to make sense since the vehicles are one of the best things about the game.

I'm just saying, I mean I'll buy Halo 3 no matter what. Maybe the mystery X button will add some fun to small scale firefights, I have a bad feeling that they're going to saturate the game further with more shitty weapons. Halo 2 had like 5 completely unneccessary weapons.

Just like every weapon in the game, the chainsaw has it's specific points to use in multi. The game is very well balanced minus a few things (like the host has an advantage with the shotgun and the frag tag distance is waaaay too long.

I found the chainsaw to be really useful in online co-op too. Being rushed by a grub while reloading meant revving it up and sawing him to death, which saved my ass (and my friend's) more than a few times.

Sure, it is mainly in there because it is fun and aswome as hell to saw someone in half, but saying it is useless? Battles have been won and lost because of the chainsaw and it is the easiest way to ensure a kill when sneaking up on someone.

I'm going to try and sign up. The hi res screens on bungie look nice, too.

I'm not seeing how cover would possibly help Halo. I wouldn't bet on Bungie using it.

I agree with everything people are saying (except J2d) in this thread except this. Halo's gameplay is way faster and requires far quicker hand eye coordination then GoW. Halo's gameplay is obviously not quick in comparison to many FPS's (Unreal/Quake instantly come to mind), but in comparison to GoW it feels like light speed.

GoW's gameplay is far slower and way more methodical in terms of planning and strategy then the Halo series will ever be. Regardless though both games are two of the finest in their respective genres. And that's just the way it is!

Like a lot of people what I hated about Halo 2's multiplayer was that fact that it was a race to see who could get to the more powerful weapons first. Take me back to halo 1 where everyone started with the most powerful gun... The pistol with zoom. I doubt they will take halo 3 in that direction though, but an old man can dream.

Give me the chance and I'll be in like flint for this Halo 3 beta test.

Wow a weapon that fire one round like every five seconds didn't rev down the chainsaw, you sneaked up on someone and got a kill and a team couldn't play for shit, I'm a believer.

I haven't played with anyone here yet, but J2d is no slouch when it comes to gaming... Also, though the chainsaw is fun, the shotgun is much more practical for obvious reasons.

Seriously, it's going to take more for me to sneak up on somebody on an FPS where supposedly 3 others have your back, and chop the shit out of you, when if you so much as touch me my chainsaw gets lowered, than it will for somebody to snipe me across the map.

I read the EGM Halo 3 cover story and it seems they listened to the Hardcore Halo fan and brought back the Battle Rifle with improved accuracy, but less damage at distances. They also said in the article they smiled when EGM asked them about the bringing back of the zoomed pistol.

The "x" button in the article is being speculated as a sprint button or a temporary shield boost.

I also like the "man cannon" you, a warthog, or the mongoose can be loaded in this thing and will be sent flying towards the middle of the map.

They had a sprint in early builds of Halo 2, mapped to holding the thumbstick all the way in a direction for a few seconds. They took it out because it "didnt feel like Halo". I wonder what changed

The maps got larger; the "man cannon" only sends you to the middle of the map. They increased the range of weapons and made them more accurate. They also said that the needler is now balanced and can only be carried in one hand. The spike grenade is another reason for the sprint. But I don't think thats what its designated for. If you read the article I think its a melee button for combos. Reasons for it they want closer combat and almost everyone has been asking for it since Halo 1.

The other main reason is that if anyone reads the article or watch the podcast, They also made the customization of matches more detailed. You can now setup "Dawn of the Dead" matches. You don't have to scream at the guys to change to sword only, you can make it so as Host. Also participants can veto any decisions made by the host. Example: if your tired of playing Foundation and half the people in the room too. You can all veto the map and vote for a new map.

What this means is that you can give players speed boosts or speed decreases in the match. It would make more sense for the "X" button being the melee combo button. Also when you read the article Sho is talking about being in close combat with the Bungie guys for all the matches. Then at the end Sho over hears some of the programmers say 'how many times did you push the x button' and the one guy says 'plenty.'

I figure that if you have a group that divided everyone will just bitch anyway. In theory it's an awesome idea and would be cool for people who can actually make reasonable compromises, but with the vast majority of people who play Halo they're going to cause such a piss-fit if it comes down to force overrides on a decision. If your party leader is being a total dick and won't do what the majority wants why the hell would you try and stay in a game with them if they have such control to lower your speed, shields, etc? There's too much potential for them to be gigantic assholes.

Also, for you guys to know. Its for Bungie too see what gametypes maps etc people really like. Its a win win for all. If Bungie sees that people like playing "Dawn of the Dead" in Higher Ground(new zanzibar), but Bungie originally had it mapped for SnowFields. They will change it. Its a good thing this veto system.

Over 75% of the game types available in matchmaking now start you with a BR, both ranked and unranked. Plus on literally every map but Ivory Tower there are multiple BR's near pretty much each spawn. Plus a good player will find a BR before anything, which isn't what I would call "rushing for power weapons".

BR is the weapon of choice imo, fuck rockets.

Left bumper - left hand weapon pick up; left weapon reload.
Right Bumber - right hand weapon pick up; right weapon reload

You create a game type you can advertise that new gametype on the Marketplace for people to download and try.

They are revamping the rank system. You now have a more military rank system and the achievements are a plenty. Thery are still working this part of the game out. They want the players to feel more connected to their Spartans ... so they don't create a new account and destroy n00bs.

The Pre and Post lobbies are revamped. For Post game lobbies the stats include and I

The commercial sounds like it will be pretty badass from what they've said about it. It's a mix of CG and live action created by Digital Domain. It seems like they are using it for many purposes, A) to spread word that Halo 3 is coming (not that anyone who cares about the game didn't know), and B) show potentially what could be seen if/when a Halo movie does come out.

Took me a while but I finally got it to go through. I had to use my PC and Internet Explorer, and install a new version of Flash to do it though.

I got the white screen at first too. I had to go back to the main Halo 3 page and go through it again, the second time I didn't have to log into .net and it went right to the registration page.
