Naw, they're cool.
I have the easiest finals week ever. I only have 4 tests next week, they're all going to be of moderate difficulty and I don't have to do a goddamn thing for the next 5 or 6 days.
I don't mind 'em at all. Tests rock!
Not so bad this time around.
I have it kind of easy, well as far as scheduling goes. I only have 3 tests, but I am pretty sure I am going to fail two of them, if not do really bad on them. Easy exam thursday, and then the bitch exams on friday and monday. Luckily I have nothing between now and then.
One class I'm not so worried about (easy astronomy I love you so) just reread notes, go to review sessions. The other two both are going to SUCK for different reasons.
the first is a drawing class and i have to turn in my portfolio of all the work done this quarter (lots and lots and lots) and its all organized. and then a HUGE self portrait. Did i mention I dont like those? And then there's a fucking anatomy test (name the bone on the back of your skull, what is the name of your shoulder blade, etc) So studying and drawing and Annoyance.
the second is my absolutely F-ed up native american art history class. The teacher is a terrible public speaker (try an average of saying um/uh 70 times in ten minutes) and its alot of memorization of only about 140 slides. awesome. and oh yah there's readings that may be on the final, and oh yes of the 140 slides, we'll only be using like 14. I hate that class. I'm waiting for the class evaluation cus she's going to get ripped a new one. I tell everyone I know, do NOT take this class from this stupid lady. ROBIN WRIGHT. see you next tuesday indeed.
On a happy note, we only have one more present to buy and then xmas shopping is done.
easy astronomy is a great class. I took that last semester. All the test were multichoice.
Half the answers were joke answers.
btw, the local middle school had the largest telescope of any precollege school in the world. You could see saturn's rings and the spot on jupitor with it.
I let all of my readings pile up and now I have to go coffee crazy and plow through 3 books, dozens of articles/essays and a handful of short stories.
I have a shitload of papers to write in the next 2 weeks.
This is my first finals week...
I'm not looking forward to it.
My finals are more projects so for the next two weeks I'm going to be doing projects. Thankfully, once this is all over I will receive my diploma and get to play FFXII for days without leaving my room.
Except for work. :(
Drop out or suck it up imo.
I had my chem lab final this morning (two weeks before finals week, and on the same day as a "quiz" in chem lecture). His previous tests were complete bullshit but I dunno, I either studied the right material or he took it easy on this one, I definitely got at least a C (which lands me a B in the class).
Superfluous thread. Ban plz.
they aren't that bad. No worse than any other test...
I was typing the last half of the last page of a 10-page portfolio at around 2am when the dorm's power went out. Damn near no outside light gets into this place, so I was pissing by cellphone light.
uh, anyway, stayed up until 5 waiting for power, nothing, grabbed five hours of sleep and managed to finish it before class.
The actual exams probably won't be bad, though.
Finals week was always the worst. Pretty much every semester I would have 3 crits for my studios and 3 finals for my other classes smashed into the last day of finals.
Good luck all.
I took a design course to get my diploma so finals weren't that stressful. It's only when you didn't spread your project work out that you suffered, which I guess is kind of worse since there's really no way to pull an all nighter and still come out with the same results (unless you strike design gold, in which case it is probably even better than what would have happened if you had worked hard).
I'm doing a double courseload so I haven't really slept much the past couple weeks. I've been taking frequent breaks to play videogames and waste time online so I don't burn out completely, but the sleep deprivation sucks. I just beat dungeon 6 in Zelda, now it's back to my 30 page research paper.....
Finals week indeed sucks, because I'm so sick that I've been having trouble just getting out of bed the past few days.
One of the main teachers in my department hates me no matter what I do, so I don't even know why I'm still trying.
...or am I?
I'd rather write 20 page papers than write exams. I do well on them, but they freak the hell out of me.
The key for me was studying just enough. Over studying always screwed me up.
yeah, I'd ten times rather write a paper than take an exam.
I WISH I could have people proofread my exams before I turn them in :(
I'd rather take finals than write papers, but then again, grades on papers are jokes at most schools and/or departments. If I were an English major, I'd be straight A.
lol, my english major roommate had a study group over for their history test tomarrow. I was answering their questions faster than they were.
HISTORY CHANNLE FOR THE WIN!
READING RAINBOW FOR THE LOSS!
I have a very high reading level thank you very much
writing....not so much
A study group for a history test? Seems rather redundant. Those were some of the easiest classes I've taken in college, wish I could take them again :(
[For history] If I wanted to study, I'd go home. If I wanted to goof off, I'd go to a study group.
Study groups helped me realized how stupid my peers truly were. It's no wonder so many people struggled on those exams. For one thing, my teachers (with the exception of a few nutjobs) telegraphed exactly what was going to be on the exam. Studying (or, rather, unnecessarily focusing on) things that won't be on the exam waste your time!
so far only one all-nighter. I hope I don't have to do 78 hours without sleep like last semester, and I don't think I'd have to, since having my own studio is so much more productive.
Tell me about it. I'm an Accounting major and my fiancee's a psych major. It drives me nuts to see half her grade coming from papers when my grades are usually like 10% projects, 90% from 3 tests. Papers are great cuz unless you're a tool you're damn near assured a great score. So she seems to sail smoothly and get A's all the time and I have to bust ass for low B's and shit.
I see English and History majors complaining about shit and it makes me laugh, oh yeah, marketing/management majors too.
yeah, but you still get one thing that other majors don't get:the abaility to get people to check your work before you turn it in.
I'd normally have at least two people check everything I wrote before I was done with it. I sometimes even had the teacher look at it. I've gotten at least a B or higher in every college writing class I've ever taken. I even have a few things being used as teaching examples. You've seen the mistakes I make when no proof reading is done. I think it's pretty safe to say that it really boost quality.
I'm not saying english majors suck or papers are easy or anything, becuase you still gotta put in that time, and papers canb be a huge time dump. Just saying there is a diffirance between something you can get as many people as you want to check and something you have to do on your own, in a hour, and turn in.
There's a difference between creative writing and academic writing.
elaborate
Trust me, English majors would rather take a test. Being trained as English teachers means that everything you write is under scrutiny. My professors let nothing pass, and it really helped me. My English majors today know that when they hand in a paper, it has to be quality work, because I'm going to call them out on every little detail. They take twice as long with their English papers as they do with those for other classes.
It's a bitch in the short term, but it does them a world of good in the long run.
I have my genetics final tonight, and I am pretty much fucked. My professor never taught us a thing, we never had any exams throughout the semester, every single chapter we never went over could be its own exam. After this semester, I am through with sciences. I have no idea what I am going to switch to however.
I hate shit like that. Helping you grow as a human and a studient my ass. Half the time it boils down to the teacher being lazy, working two jobs, or they are trying to do research/get a grant/whatever.
Fuck those guys. Teach you dirty bastards. You are not a highschool football couch, you aren't there to set goals and do little in the atainment of said goals.
fucking douche bags
So I should be studying for my calc final tomorrow, instead I'm on TNL...I hate finals.
not as much as your mom last night...
MARUCHAN STRIKES!
Still not studying for my calc final....
Finals? Somehow I'm fortunate to only be required to take one final exam this semester. However, I'm stuck writing a few 10 page papers and preparing lengthly presentations for other various classes.
I guess it evens out in the end.
Luke is back?
I just finished reading Mark Twain's The Mysterious Stranger (93 pages) after starting yesterday for my English final tomorrow. My professor didn't tell us what the hell the final is on, just that when we see it we'll know. We just know that it's an essay with 4 or 5 questions or something.
I got another final Thursday night for my computer class which all I'll need to get is like a 15 out of 20 to get an A. I also have a final next Tuesday for my Art 102 class which I'll ace since it's the same format as our quizzes, and I got 2 As and 1 B on those. My last final is for my online music class which I'm having my gf take for me since she got an A on hers and we basically cheated since it's so easy not to.
I had to sing opera for my voice class today, which really all things considered is not that time consuming of a final, music classes rule. (Opera still is not in any way enjoyable)
I have to write a ten-page paper critiquing everything I learned in my public relations class and then I have to put together a newspaper for my advanced newswriting class. After that, it's all cake.
Finished my last final this morning. Pretty much bombed my org chem exam, but I should hopefully pass the class. All I have left is a one page joke of a paper for my Bio seminar. Pretty much I can make up anything for the paper and still get an A.
I have two finals to do in groups. Not doing your share of the work is no way to make me happy, plz blv.
1 more to go here on wednesday then Im hibernating with the new Zelda game for a couple of weeks.
7 exams in the next 5 days.
LIFE RULES
10 page paper due by 2:30p tomorrow (today). Exam at 10:30a. Exam the next day at 8:45a, and then paper revisions due at 4p. Day off on Thursday, and then a final at 10:30a on Friday. Schlep beyond drunk and playing GoW at 1p on Friday.
I have a 4-5 page paper that I have to turn in by tomorrow at 5:00 PM (aka I'll be done at about 4, getting there at 4:50). I have an exam on Wednesday, but it should be easy. I'm off work until the 23rd, so come Wednesday night, I'll be rejoicing like a black church choir. <3.
Oh and I need to pay a $40 library fine soon so that I can change my spring schedule to accomodate a class that I have to retake next semester :(.
I've been procrastinating preparing a presentation due tomorrow @ 330.
It's about how ridiculous smoking bans are.
Ohio just passed their Issue 5, which I guess makes it the biggest and most uptight smoking ban in the Midwest. No public smoking anywhere, even in ALL bars and places like that. This entire town is pretty much just craft shops and a shitton of bars (as are most small college towns) so everybody's going apeshit. That, and I'm pretty sure over 50% of the students here are smokers.
Frankly, I'm all for it. Totally sick of being put in a non-smoking section and then having to inhale the wafting smoke my entire meal. So on that level, yay. I realize it sucks for business owners though and will probably fuck up the bar economy, so... Yeah. I can't stand smoke at all so it's hard for me to feel bad for smokers.
Felt, a.k.a. Kobalt (lol at it having a "k"), noticed there's no enforcement until next June and so still allow it (I mention that because that's usually where I go). Apparantly part of the lull in the government backing it up is because a chunk of the people that voted for it were unregistered voters. Way to pick a time to vote illegally.
It is really funny seeing huge groups of people stand outside of near-empty bars while smoking.
Second hand smoke laws are based on junk science, and they infringe on the property rights of business owners at that. Most smoking bans are based on the EPA93 study... which was a meta-analysis which used the numbers from less than 10 of the 33 studies used... and still found a relative risk well below 2.0 (1.19... of 100 people who would normally get lung cancer, 119 would if counting for second hand smoke)... as has almost every other study ever. The WHO, EPA, FDA, and National Cancer Institute all claim a RR below 3.0 is unreliable, and RRs at the levels that second hand smoke concludes are actually completely insignificant. While I'm not saying that second hand smoke isn't bad... it hasn't really been proven to be all that harmful and it's disgusting that these studies would be used to pass legislation in 2/3rds of the states.
clean air technology > smoking bans
Smoking bans rule. Go home and kill yourself kthx.
Already handed in one 8 page final paper and have my last final tomorrow morning at 7:30.
I've had two finals already and they've been total jokes. The only two I need to study for are organic chem on Thursday and psychology on Friday, but psyc isn't even cumulative so it shouldn't count as a final anyway.
yeah. I don't really care for ugly fat women. Can we ban being fat in public places? I don't like watching them, being all fat and unhealthy. They drive up the insentive of food corporations to make crappy unhealthy food, which slowly makes me fat and kills me.
So yeah, no more fat people in public.
just finished my presentation...went really well aside from the wtf he's arguing for smoking look of the class..
anyway, in the class now just waiting for it to end...last class of the semester. 50 mins to go
Gothic Lit Final Tomorrow. Yeaaaaaaaaah
Just out of curiosity, when any of you go about bullshitting a paper, how do you do it? I suck at bullshitting, plain and simple. Also, I don't care about the class I'm doing it for because it doesn't apply to my major (Post honors bullshit. They require every honors student to take a bullshit class from their list, even if it doesn't fit your major.) I don't normally do this, either, and it takes forever for me to write.
...I've got actual, important schoolwork to do, please.
First half of the course:
Castle of Otranto - Horace Walpole
The Monk - Matthew Lewis
The Italian - Anne Radcliffe
Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen
Second Half:
Frankenstein - Mary Shelly
Various Ghost Stories by Dickens and MR James
Dracula - Bram Stoker
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - R.L. Stevenson
The Turn of the Screw - Henry James
Various Southern Gothic short stories by Flannery O'Connor, William Faulkner and Eudora Welty
The Exorcist - William Peter Blatty
I read portions of all of the works but only finished the short stories, Jekyll and Hyde and The Exorcist because I'm a pathetically slow reader and it was taught at a pretty fast pace. I just don't recommend The Italian and Northanger Abbey... and The Turn of the Screw, but that's mainly because I have a personal vendetta against Henry Fucking James.
Don't think I can help you, the last paper I bullshitted I wrote in 2 hours and it was 5ish pages I think, but it was on a topic that I was already familiar with (Gender issues raised in High Noon). It was for extra credit.
I guess I recommend using long quote but make them relevant so it doesn't look like you're simply padding the paper. Or you could just suck it up and write the shit.
I actually do think that fat people shouldn't be allowed in public. I really, really hate fat people for some reason.
hate fat, hate the internet
blv
Bullshitting on my papers is pretty much just finding a ton of sources, rephrasing everything, and using parenthetical citations to make it all legal and dandy. I've yet to have a paper that required any real thought or difficult analysis so I just cite shit like crazy and use lots of long block quotes that are somewhat relevant.
I just make all of my papers original, well researched and awesome and get As. blv.
Any lawyers here? They could tell some real finals horror stories.
The early Gothic novels were pretty tough readings. The Monk had a painfully slow beginning so I gave up on it but wish I hadn't since it apparently gets awesome about... halfway through. The Italian was really long and not very good, I'm glad he chose this novel over the longer and more boring Mysteries of Udolpho by Radcliffe. And Jane Austen. Well. Yeah. I would say everything in the second half of the class is worth reading, even Henry James if you have the patience to read his eye burstingly dense prose.
Read Wieland. That's probably the worst book ever written.

I have an exam (number 2 of 5 this week) in half an hour. gogogo
I have 4 finals on Friday that I was too lazy to get changed. Cheers!
4 finals on Friday? That's rough. I have my last, and most difficult final tomorrow. Then I'm going to gets fucked up!
DONE! And broke up with the girlfriend so tomorrow Zelda will be my new bitch.
I don't really want to talk about, say, a man cutting off his own testicles in elevated english.
So instead of learning the whole semester's worth of business stat for tomorrow's exam, I went to the basketball game. Mike Jones hit 9 consecutive 3 pointers.
Freshman year was funny for the amount of people that destroyed their GPA in the matter of a semester. Have fun with academic probation.
I'm going to graduate with about a 2.7 GPA down from 3.4. nice.
yeah. Everyone tells them "college isn't like highschool" and yet they never learn (myself included. I had to retake calc 1)
