And, if you go back and read what I've already written in this thread, it points to a growing movement in Japan away from consoles and towards handhelds (well, the DS), which if that continues, you bet your ass we'll feel some of the effects from that over here.

I might care about japan and the trends in gaming over there if more than a dozen good games came out yearly from there. If all this means is less crappy Jrpgs on sony systems well I only see that as a positive. And if the inverse more crappy Jrpgs on the ds is a neg.... well you get the idea. Now of course all of what I said is highly subjective, but the trends of japan mean a nats ball sack to me. If we feel the tremors to whatever crap they are pushing out over there I'll just have to do my darndest to ignore them.

Agreed I went over there this morning and read through a bunch of whining and shock.

But like Shidoshi you need a mix of Japanese and Western Dev games. If you don't your system becomes stagnant or a one trick pony since theres no diversity. You need that at least bad or good.

BTW anyone notice that dog$ doiesn't use the multi-quote function. Just found that funny.

First off, Dog$ hate portables. Good for him. That fact doesn't deny me of any enjoyment of them. Why it seems to hurt others i don't get.
Secondly, I feel this is like when Square announced Final Fantasy for Playstation. That really hurt Nintendo and the N64.
Thankfully, just like Nintendo, Sony has strong enough first party developers to pick up the slack. Oh, wait....

The theory is that more high selling games on a system means more games you'll want to play as well. Sort of like movie formats... I may not care that format X gets some huge-selling shitty blockbuster, but if that moves units it means format X has a much greater chance of getting decent movies as well. The issue isn't whether you like the games that move units, but whether those moved units will result in games you do want.

I'm familiar with the idea (and agree mostly) but in this case all dragon quest hitting the ds really means to me is more japanese games I would have ignored anyway. Since 90% of the games I play are of the shooting genre, which have been beyond awful on the ds. Dragon quest 8 was simply the one Jrpg I actually enjoyed (because of it's lush presentation and great voice acting), and I really don't think any one can say with a straight face that being DS only is a good thing for the series.
