GWN isn't all that reliable, but if anyone with a subscription to EGM could confirm this that would be awesome.Quote:

You roll a fricking ball around. How many games can they milk out of this?
i can't card myself : (
Katamari on the Wii would be fantastic.
Katamari is the one and only practical way I could see the PS3 controller's tilt functionality actually being useful and possibly fun.
It's in the EGM, but it's just a rumor. YOU'RE BACK AT SQUARE ONE
This series is over. One game was all we needed.
Do you really mean that? Seriously, the game was so damn cheery! The music was awesome (better? Not really. But at least awesome) the way the cousins were handled was better, the new types of missions were awesome (Racecar FTW) the people asking you to do shit were funny, it was compatible with your Katamari 1 save, the cinemas were AWESOME, the eye lazers were awesome, the kings reaction to you picking up the cousins was awesome, etc, etc.
It SO was not stale.
Does anyone else think it was stale? If so, why?
Even if the last sequel was still good...does this franchise need another 73298731 releases on every next-gen console?
You roll a frickin ball around.
No way was it less charming. NO FREAKIN' WAY! It was MORE charming damnit! You could skip through the select field whistling whilst your cousins trotted behind you! That's not charming? And the King and his youngster days with his original pompadour? That's not charming?! ROYAL RAINBOW!!!!!! Miso! The cute little animal that wants you to roll up a bunch of friends for him because he's lonely! Goddamnit that's charming!!!!!!! EVERLASTING LOVE!
You might have this confused with MGS3: Snake Eater.
They were fucking cute, that's the point. And they added variety, and the King said different stuff based on who you are. What, did you want different attributes or something?
Not all of 'em were like that. But, it doesn't matter, because they were the most fun missions. Most shooters are "shoot things until they die" is that a bad thing? I don't think so. Most fighting games are "fight the guy until he dies". But it's a fucking fighting game, so of course that's how it is. I don't care if I have to keep rolling balls in a game about rolling balls.
No, but it needs one. EVERY GAME EVER should be on 360, 360 is the platform of kings. Hell, I don't even care about a sequel, re-release one of the other ones and that's fine by me. I just want it on my 360. I don't care about having gimmicky controls on the Wii or DS or PS3. Katamari is brilliant just the way it is. But KEEP THE FUCKING MUSIC AWESOME PLZ.
The point is you can only go about rolling a big ball of crap so many ways before it gets old. You have a lot more wiggle room for ideas with the examples you listed.Quote:

Yes, otherwise why even bother switching? I don't really care if they are cute or not.Quote:

If they released an visually enhanced version of the first two Katamaris on 360, that would be enough for me. Namco has already shown they can't do the series justice without the original creator, thanks to the PSP version, so a retooling for the next-gen systems will do. I'd rather Katmari/We <3 Katmari be a fond memory of two near-perfect games than worn out and degraded through sub-par sequels.
James
I think I remember seeing some interview with the creator saying that he wasn't going to make anymore Katamari's, and that the series was good where it was and there was no sense in making anymore.
To be honest... I think I might agree. I love Katamari, but part of the real charm of the game was doing all of that for the first time. I bought the sequel the day it came out, but just didn't find myself liking it as much.
This might be one of those games where they did what they needed to do, and it doesn't really need bigger and better hardware to do what it originally wanted to but couldn't.
If the DS could handle a Katamari game, I'd kind of like to see one show up there, and then end the series for good.
He said that after the first game, but he was put into the position of "Either you make the sequel or we get someone else to do it." The creator was a very cool guy, he didn't even want to make videogames anymore IIRC, he wanted to make childrens playground equipment. Namco is just milking it dry now, very sad.
I would like a Katamari in which there is a stage where I roll around starting with paperclips and eventually move up to countries with no loading screens, breaks, or a time limit. Like the unlocked version of the last stage of the first game, only more so.
Everything else would be icing. As long as the soundtrack rocks. I could also just custom soundtrack from the original game, but yeah.
Yeah, I'd just like to have one of the 1st 2 games (or a hybrid/combination thing) on the 360 if they can't get the original guy to make a sequel.
But I really want it on the 360.
Unless the creator of Katamari owns the sole rights to the franchise or something like that, there's nothing stopping Namco from continuing the series.
James' point is very valid, but I'd still like to see how the game would play out using the Wii or PS3 control scheme. Putting it on the 360 doesn't seem like it would change things up very much.
Katamari ruled hard. 2 was even better. If you play for score like you play a shmup for score, it has a looooot of replay value, and fun replay value beacuse let's fucking face it.
Rolling a ball around is fucking fun as hell. I'd say it's more fun than VO:OT.
Oh good, these will go nicely with that DS version that was rumored ages ago.
The series is adead and it should remain dead. Not every good game needs a million sequels and I'd rather have more games with the same design sense as Katamari than more Katamari games.
