Impressions from a 5 minute taste test:
INTENSE.
First of all, it looks fantastic. (1680x1050 everything on high). Great character models, great texture work and the lighting is great too. Runs really well though I got some stuttering here and there (a lot like Half Life 2 when it first came out). Loading the level did take a good amount of time.
The demo consists of one level (the apartments) and you can't choose which character to be (black dude, chick, biker guy, old dude). You chose from single player with bots as your teammates, or go online. After the awesome intro, the game starts on the roof of an apartment. The decent into hell starts from there.
It's like being in a "_____ of the Dead" movie, that is the easiest way to explain it. You come across zombies who are slow as shit, they're standing in corners just being zombies. Easy pickings. Then you got the 28 Days Later variety who are fast as hell. Anarchy can break out in a moments notice. You are sweeping rooms, taking care of business all calm and shit, then the game says "Try this fuck face." Heads exploding, zombies jumping, guns blazing PANDEMONIUM. Brilliant idea having teammates silhouette glow blue when they are behind a wall or in a crowd. It's really easy to lose track of people. And if you wander off alone, forget it. You're so dead.
At its core, it reminds me of Doom. Guns blazing, you against the devil with 3 friends. I played for 5 minutes and I need to play more.
It's actually two levels. The apartments and then the subway.
