Anyone try out Scavenger mode yet? It's my new favorite vs. mode, games only last like 20-25 min max and it's a hell of a lot of fun. And I was only playing with my one buddy and randoms, I can see it being way more fun with 7 people I actually know.
And Hard Rain is tops!
I've only played it once, and only managed to join the game right at the end. I might try it out here in a bit because I need that scavenge achievement.
I like every campain except swamp fever, although I like swamp fever's last level (the hedge maze one).
Beat a campain or two on expert realism. I wonder if the melee weapons don't ruin the balance, but oh well, it is still fun. I play versus now and then, but the start difference between a team that can talk to each other and knows what they are doing and those that don't make it a one sided game 80% of the time.
I don't know how you play this on xbox though, seems impossible.
First I put the disc in the system, then I grab the controller, next I pick up a samurai sword and start chopping zombies to pieces.
Realism is the way to go imo. Expert is just way hard on the xbox, advanced is really preferred xbox mode imo. It's not impossible you just have to be fucking fast and cover each other. A lot of people are just fucking terrible. My accuracy is almost always over 30, you need to be near 35 percent to have a good chance on expert. The biggest problem on Expert on xbox is friendly fire.
So Realism Advanced is my favorite way to play.
Melee weapons do fairly little damage to each other, and because you aren't so close, you usually don't hit each other that often. Additionally, because you are moving, it takes longer for zombies to reach you so you can run up, hit one, keep running, hit the one chasing you ect.
This isn't too important for normal mode, but in realism where it takes like 4 shots to the chest to kill, having a 1 hit kill melee is pretty fucking important.
Works good on tanks too
Melee weapons are awesome. The hardest thing about melee weapons is dealing with smokers, spitters, and boomers. The machete is my personal favorite. It seems to incapacitate any somebody with one hit, and the swing seems a little faster than the other weapons.
I like the fire axe. I honestly couldn't tell you what the real difference is between the weapons though, except that slicing weapons leave pretty gashes and seem to be more effective.
Seems like the rate of fire is the biggest difference with the blades.
seems like the fire axe swings are well timed to a short dash forward and a step back.
I think speed and distance are the two. Although i noticed every now and then the bat doesn't kill.
The only disappointing thing so far is that Rochelle doesn't really seem to have much of a personality. It's like, Ellis - Coach - Nick - Rochelle on the personality list.

Rochelle's always the last person in the server that gets picked. Who picks Rochelle with people like Coach and Ellis around? Nobody, that's who.
listening to all the stuff they've added to make user content even easier to make and use makes me have a hard on for buying the pc version.
Can I make new playable characters yet? You know, like any other well known FPS on the PC?
What the hell would be the point of that? You wanna go record a bunch of context dialog while you're at it?
Every other PC game is doing it for no reason we should ruin our game and do it, too!

Also: Try knocking someone out of a window with the Charger in Dead Center, it's hilarious. It infuriates the survivors too (if you're good you can knock 'em off the starting pier in the first act of the The Parish).
I really like the campaign themes and level design more in 2 than the original. Feels better for some reason.

When I went down to get my laundry during a break in gameplay, I almost expected a Charger to jump me as I turned the corner to the basement area. And when I saw a hedge trimmer in the corner by the washer, I felt a strange urge to grab it for protection.
Were you playing last night, Pineapple? I didn't notice. All I saw was Ellis and Rochelle (computer controlled) doing all the work, along with that ChrisN69 guy.;)

Best for when you get swarmed. Really don't want to do that to a boomer or spitter. Tough on a Charger or Hunter. And a Tank isn't going to think much of an ax. Witches too.
It works pretty well on the charger and hunter really, maybe not the tank. Basically though, melee weapons are way overpowered, and the axe is the best of them. Just use that most of the time and pull out whatever primary you want. Some levels its good to have a shotgun for horde parts.Quote:

That being said, shotguns are not as useful in this game as far as I've encountered, I now go for the automatic weapons or as of tonight the snipers (they can work, who knew?). And I'll take a pipe bomb over Boomer Bile anyday, that shit is weak unless you're trying for the achievements.

everyone is always on Versus but I don't know the levels so I wouldn't be worth anything
Versus is a good way to learn levels if you start as Infected.
In Versus, you can see the outlines of everyone's bodies and you will rarely (the cornfield comes to mind) get stuck in a corner. A lot of it is either fairly wide-open spaces or hallways with little rooms to the side.
In other words: play with us!
