Andrew, all this stuff is not all the same. Quit trying to paint it as it is. Serial killers are not the same as killers. Serial rapist are not the same as rapist. A pedo is not the same as a rapist. None of this crap is 100% always related to the other.

it's an accepted fact that people are affected by their past. The mind is not a stone wall built entirely from our genetics. It is an accepted fact that people with previous sexual trauma are at a higher risk of committing sexual deviancy if not the same act committed against them. It is the same way with physical abuse. Children that are beat and abused are at a higher risk of abusing their own children.

No, you can't pinpoint with certainty, but I never made the claim that I could pinpoint crazies.

That is an absolute myth. We try to act like we know, but when it comes to the mind, we don't know shit. Many people beat and rape, and many people beat and rape who were beat and raped. One does not lead to the other.

I was using an extreme (serial killer, rapist) to illustrate how little success profiling has. I was never trying to say that serial raping was the same as minor sexual deviancy (although pedophilia is fucking gross). The nice guy down the street with blonde hair and a Volkswagon and a family is just as likely to be a serial killer as the heroine addict shooting up in the alley.

Ironplant knows this. It's the whole reason he's decided to stop arguing for his original point of being able to spot a serial killer because of a troubled past and on to how little serial killers and sexual deviants have in common (a point I never made).

People don't say to themselves "Hmmm, I think it would be a good idea to have sex today. I'll do it at 11pm before bed." We get the urge to make sex on someone and we want them then and there; we might resist that urge because her parents are in the room or because we don't want syphilis, but that doesn't make the urge rational.

I've never had a desire or urge to commit murder so I can't make the comparison personally, but from what I've read most murders are not committed by death-addicted sociopaths.
