Streets of Rage Remake
http://www.bombergames.net/sorr_e.htm
Apparently just released today, it's a remake/recompilation of the entire SoR series. Actually, it's more of a sequel using environments and characters from all three games. It's hard to describe, but it has everything, all the characters, new moves, new enemies, remixed music. You have character specials and those specials from the first game where police explode the shit out of the level. It even has branching level paths and entire new sequences and sprite work.

The site might be under a lot of traffic since it was recently put up on Kotaku, but I downloaded it earlier this morning without any problems.
EDIT: Here are a bunch of screens from the game and showing the UI and profile builder, color editor, and some of the mini-games.

I now have it downloading at a snails pace.
-
But will it work on Xbox?
-
Comparison to Beats of Rage? Anyone playing it yet?
-
I seriously hate being a Mac user right now.
-
weird, some of those characters were pulled straight out of Rival Turf - SNES
-
I've played through the first three stages, really top notch work. Hit detection is spot on, and the new sprite work doesn't look foreign at all.
-
WTF... I follow their link and get a "no hot linking" image.

Here's my excuse to get Windows reinstalled and set up today, I guess!
edit: sup spelling

The controls are surprisingly good with a gamepad. Does anyone know if you can save your progress at any point? This seems fun, but I don't know if it can hold my attention for however long it takes to beat in one sitting.

I think Play did a little piece on this recently. I'll definitely download it ASAP.
-
You can only save your profile, but I think the things you unlock remain after you power off.
I was going to post this today, as I just put up an article on it at my site.
Great stuff for SoR fans!

Xbox port pls (Beats of Rage had one).
-
This should be continuously on the first page. And all that have a pc and love Streets of Rage should download. And if you can't I'll give you the zip file.
-
I finally got around to actually playing this. Pretty impressive stuff.

Playing this reminded me how much I love SoR, especially #2. It took such and generic and overused theme but it did it with such style that it didn't matter. The gameplay and music are timeless. I don't think the remake's levels flow as well as playing the actual Genesis games but it's still damn good.
