All-Purpose Wrestling Thread

I don't really think the amount of wrestling companies broadcast on TV matters, as the 'Wars mainly just had WCW and the WWF going at it, with ECW not getting a TV deal until late '99, when WCW was basically a non-factor in the Monday night war.

Now, there's just simply too damn much product to watch. WWE alone has five hours of TV broadcast nationally, with Heat online, and factoring in the pro wrestling/MMA crossover audience, you've got even more TV to attempt to keep up with, with the IFL having three hours of TV, PRIDE still having the FSN deal, and UFC regularly having massive blocks of airtime on Spike TV.

For the past year, many have been going over to MMA, which has been providing more compelling, realistic feuds, and more realistic drama in their bouts. WWE has brought the emphasis of the shows back to wrestling this year, which seems to have helped them regain some of their lost momentum. TNA had momentum 10 months ago, but they've lost all of it since then, as ratings are back down, and buyrates are at their usual 30,000 buy level, which is God-awful considering that Impact has one million viewers each week.

There's still a lot of work that needs to be done to get wrestling back into the public eye again, and storylines involving Vince in a rocking chair certainly aren't going to do it. They might be amusing, but they aren't going to draw money or mainstream attention to wrestling.

And I really think that the rumors of this hackeneyed match with the Jackass crew at Summerslam really isn't going to help matters much. They really just need to let some of the newer younger talent take center stage and let them go all out and have good matches, instead of haveing half a year's worth of Edge/Batista, Lashley/McMahon. Especially that last one. Obviously Vince isn't the draw that he thinks he is, because in the midst of the Trump/McMahon fued, did the ratings even go up at all?

Yes, they did and Wrestlemania's buyrate was the highest ever.

Well, I stand corrected. I suppose I'm just sick of Vince.

The Trump/Vince stuff was a huge ratings draw - with most of their segments, the amount of viewers shot up by a million or more viewers. The highest jump any of the regular roster has gotten is Cena with a 150,000-200,000 viewer jump in his segments.

WWE let her go because she didn't have "the look". i don't see how they can keep Jillian Hall on their shows but let Shelley go. they should have taken her away from what's his puss and had her drop the goth gimmick, joined up with say CM Punk and just dressed like Ashley. hopefully she goes to TNA, but with the 1hr cap even SoCal Val doesn't get any airtime besides the single between the legs ramp shot once in a while.

Oops, I forgot to actually put Scott Steiner's name in that post, he's the 'he's' I was referring to. TNA is still advertising him for Slammiversary despite knowing that he'll be unable to compete in his match. Aside from that, I actually really loved Impact this past week. Harris-Storm was fantastic, and the best match on TV all week other than Benoit-Edge. It's a shame they went with a copout ending, and worse, had Angle and Joe dominate the rest of the show, making their match seem like an afterthought.

Vince's limo exploded at the end of Raw. Was it:

A. Suicide

B. Murder

C. Accident

D. One of the worst storylines in recent memory.

The Draft was unispired and a letdown. The fact that there
may be alterations is a fuckin joke. Waste of 3 hours.

At least we know what that black cloud was Vince mentioned a couple of weeks ago. It's a shame they spent so much time building to the end of the Mr. McMahon character instead of building up matches for the PPV in 6 days that currently has 2 matches announced.

Great RAW. The draft was fun and the ending was exactly what Vince wanted. It got everyone talking about WWE.

In other news the Ladder Match DVD is amazing. TLC 1 is one of my favourite matches ever.

Hopefully this is Vinces idea of retiring the Mr McMahon character for good, and never coming back onto my screen except for the odd..and i mean REALLY odd appearance.

At first I would agree with you but considering the current WWE roster Mr.McMahon has more charisma in his pinky than 95% of that roster (Lashley i'm looking at you). Granted this might be a result of McMahon pushing his character above all others but I definitely think him being off screen for awhile will be a good thing. Also did anyone get a "Press Your Luck" vibe from the draft with Smackdown! getting the whammy in the form of Torrie Wilson.

That was the first time in a long time that I had a big group of people together to watch wrestling, and it was a total blast. We even filled out Draft prediction sheets, which considering most of the people there haven't seen wrestling for months/years it was mostly blind picks. Of course, the way WWE handled the draft, it kinda made my spreadsheet (with all 100 pieces of draftable talent) useless, but it was still fun.

The ending made everyone flip the fuck out. I wonder what's gonna happen tonight on ECW?

If only it would be that coherant. It will probably be some kind of stupid thing where Vince starts up a new stable of burn victims, especially those burned in Inferno matches, ie: MVP and Kane. This terrible trio, which will be known as the Burn Unit, will wreak havoc on the WWE in pointless promos and matches designed to do nothing more than get Vince over until Undertaker steps in and brings out the only thing that can stop the ferociousness of the monster Kane: A ressurrected Katie Vick. They will come out to the top of the ramp at the end of RAW, and then the entire angle will never be mentioned again.

My hopes would be that it is Bischoff and he comes back and reforms WCW and they do a REAL invasion angle where WCW isn't made to look like shit.

There's a decent idea. However, don't expect anything good to come out of this. Why is it that for years I've read people thoughts and theories online as to great storylines and there have been really good ones yet WWE continue to disapoint w/terrible ideas?

Jonas' idea is the best I've seen online and like I said WWE will screw it up by saying he faked it or it was Shane because he wanted to take over the business, whatever. They could drag this on for a while w/taped vignettes (like the old nWo b/w ones) dropping subtle clues but never giving up a lot of info. Then at Summerslam or the next PPV the reveal is made. Also thru that time there are run-ins from (going w/the above story) former WCW wrestlers (who are currently w/WWE)who beat on the WWE people then retreat. This could happen on all the brands yet the announces never make the connection.

Why am I bothering? They'll fuck this up.

Just three picks after former mentor William Regal was drafted to Raw, Eugene’s chances of reuniting with his World Tag Team Championship partner were cut down thanks to his drafting to SmackDown. Will the former champion find himself a partner and go after Deuce & Domino’s WWE Tag Team Championship? Or will it be MVP and Edge who have to beware of the special Superstar?

Regardless of the answer for that question, our SmackDown fans are in for some entertainment.

Pick No. 13: ECW selects Johnny Nitro

With its final selection in the Supplemental Draft, ECW has truly gone Hollywood, and may need to change the brand’s program name to Tuesday Nitro.

As the final pick in the 2007 WWE Supplemental Draft, Johnny Nitro is headed to the Land of Extreme. The Hollywood A-lister, who is a former WWE Tag Team and Intercontinental Champion, joins reality TV star The Miz and Big Vis as the newest members of the ECW roster. And while recent tag team partner Kenny Dykstra was drafted to SmackDown earlier today, Nitro would love to make his mark in ECW by quickly claiming the vacant ECW World Title.

Nitro was the 26th and final Superstar to find a new home this week as he brought the 2007 WWE Supplemental Draft to a close. How will the Superstars selected today fare in their new environments? Tune into Raw Monday night at 9/8 CT on USA Network as the next phase in their careers begins.

You can normally tell the difference between a guy on normal 'roids and HGH. Cena doesn't look like he's on HGH. But I heard him on Stern a few months ago claiming that he's been 100% clean all his life, but I'm not buying that, either.

He lives in a house with no stairs 'cause he can't handle walking up them and he hasn't had a vacation in years 'cause he's too huge to swim.

Being overweight isn't really a huge health issue for most people. Especially considering how messed up the Body Mass Index is.

Health issue or no, going through a few pairs of pants in a year still makes a good indicator.

A part of me immediately thought it was fucking storyline because of the Vince death story but McMahon isn't this low. Absolutely fucking sucks if thats the case. An entire family just wasted like that?? Must have been an intruder/thief who went in ..saw them and just did them off. Fucking sucks big time.

I think they should drop the Vince angle now.

I mean, ever since I was young I've watched wrestling, and benoit was always there. In ECW,WCW and the WWE he was always fucking there. And now he's gone.

And the last time I ever think about him, It's in a match that I wanted him to lose. I feel like an asshole.

They have to stop the "death of McMahon" angle. Now.

Edit: I just heard that Vince appeared on television so I'm guessing the angle is over. if this is true then God bless him.

I'm glad Vince showed himself on camera explaining what's going on.
