Wacky-Ass Trojan Problems
I already brought this up once in cka's thread, but I didn't want to clog it with the same shit my computer is currently clogged with.
Running a PowerSpec machine, P4-HT 3.2GHz, 1 GB RAM, XP SP1.
I use the last free version of Sygate firewall and a Linksys router's hardwire firewall for network protection and AVG Free (updated) for viruses. I also just got Avast! Free.
I don't really use it much anymore because I have my Powerbook, which is still oh-so-very stable. This leaves much of the computing on the main machine to my lovely family.
Recently, there's been a rash of virii on there, which only came to my attention as a problem when AVG Free's "VIRUS WARNING THIS IS IMPORTANT" window popped up when I was helping my mom with something and she said, "Oh, just close it a few times, it'll go away."
So, after checking, it's a fuckton of trojans propagating in my WINDOWS\system32 directory. AVG won't touch them. They spotted them and set out an alert, but can't heal or move them. I checked the directory and found a few of them (they look like registry key numbers followed by the .exe extention) and deleted them. Now it hangs whenever I try to access the directory.
I took Dyne's advice and tried Avast!, which found a few other viruses on the pre-boot scan, but when it got to the other files in system32, it showed the filenames (which, again, looked like registry key numbers) and said it couldn't access them.
Now, I tried rebooting in safe mode, but it still hangs when I try to go to system32. Also, when I've gotten into the folder in past attempts, I usually couldn't see the files in question, either. I do have hidden files turned on visible, too, so that's not the problem. They just aren't there.
Can anyone tell me what in the blue fuck is going on here? I need to fix this before my family fucks this up more.
