once again, it isn't MY recipe. i just pulled it off the net in case people didn't know what it was. to get the general idea.

i ordered one at a bar one time before knowing they didn't actually know what one was. then i explained it to the waiter thinking the bartender would understand it (still assuming they would get it right). when it came it was a green cough syrup color. i STILL should have known. well after i tasted it they said they used mint liquer instead of mint.

never do that people.

they're a very good anytime drink. i had several with breakfast when i visited some friends in Washington.

I completely forgot about Mojito's. I've been trying to think of a good drink to order when I go out. This will have to be my next order.

Brian: I didn't know there was going to be an open bar. And the guy really knew his stuff! He made me a mojito. I don't think it's a gay drink. Mo-ji-to...

Also, had some of this beer from the Hog Island Oyster Company when in San Francisco. Loved the stuff.

I would not order a mojito anywhere that it's not specifically on the cocktail menu. They won't get it right.

i've said this a number of times when it's come up. last years winter was nasty but this years was great (at least at the brewery itself).

i guess i'll put Sam Adams Winter as my beer pick to go along with Mojitos. i'll get the name of the other beer i wanted to put down at a later time.

So here's something for you guys to try, I know most of you have had Nihonshu (known as Sake in the US), but there's another alcohol in japan that is actually a bit more popular nowadays called Shochu. It comes from the kyushu region so it's pretty much all we drink around here (in a bar around here you'll often get mocked if you ask for nihonshu). Here's a Wikipedia with general info about it:

It's hard to describe the flavor as there's a lot of different types of it, but it's a clear alcohol with some similarities to vodka. It's best drank on the rocks or in the winter drank with hot water (be sure to add the shochu to the hot water and not vice versa, usually around 2 parts shochu to 1 part hot water).

Also I've discovered that Shochu is REALLY good mixed with japanese rice beer, usually a half and half mixture.

So if you guys can do it, try to find an asian liquor store or supermarket that carries shochu (I'm betting there's somewhere in NY that has some). I can't really recommend a brand for you, since there's a TON of them, just try to ask for some that was brewed in Kyushu. Shochu made in other parts of Japan just doesn't compare.

Also, be warned, Soju, the Korean liquor is not the same thing as Shochu.

Edit: looking around a bit it looks like Astor Wines & Spirits has some Shochu, mostly suntory stuff though which is not going to be as good as real homegrown kyushu shochu. The Kuro no Maru stuff they have is allright though.
