Yeah the Bock takes getting use to. But this Black Lager is mellow, almost too mellow. In fact I'm so jazzed about this shit, I'll mail three bottles to anyone who can't find it and'll fork over four bucks (or more if you want some overnight shit) to paypal for shipping. that's twenty-five to you arjue, sorry. We'd have to ship a case to make it worth it and you may hate the shit...
EDIT: should this be in the usual places?? I'm not too up on the bootlegging laws...
I'll take you up on that. PM me details. :)
Will do, I'll get the exact price for shipping. also check this out.
I think its legal to ship alcohol if its by courier (atleast over here). Not sure about international stuff though. Should be fine i guess, but i'd feel like i was robbing you paying $25 for a case of good beer.
Kind of random but, can anyone make some recommendations for good gin? I'm not much of a drinker (I find beer vile) but I've recently found gin on the rocks to be tasty, nuanced, and something I can sip on for a while.
cheapish: bombay sapphire
top shelf: hendricks
Couldn't have said it better.
I'd pick Tanqueray over Bombay Sapphire in that price range.
I liked Tanqueray alright until I tried Sapphire. Tanqueray tastes like rail gin to me.
Tanqueray is fine imo.
Despite being extremely bizarre product placement, it's the reason why I tried gin.Quote:

Meach, you gonna go?
Yes. Internet probs most of November. I did get your pm; sorry for the lateness.
However!
I have a delicious cocktail that goes great with the holidays. Serve it at your company party, Christmas Eve (while watching Die Hard, of course) and The Big Day. It's tasty, cool, warms the belly (bourbon!), and it's fun to make (got your eye on a girl at work? learn to make this well and you'll have more than the usual to talk her up).
TNL, I give you the Washington Apple
What you need:
Cocktail shaker
ice
martini glass
Crown Royal
Sour Apple Pucker
Cranberry juice

5. Shake vigorously
6. Pour into martini glass...

Now, the picture shows a lime, but I think that's bad form. At holiday time a cinammon stick would be fine, at other times of year a Jolly Rancher or cherry would be fine. The drink doesn't need a garnish.
You may be surprised by how much it tastes like a Granny Smith apple and your less-knowledgeable friends may take to giving you a hard time for an ostensibly girly drink. Make no mistake! This is a delicious cocktail and is enjoyed by manly men and girly women. Foo-foo it is not.
Anyways, make some this Christmas and let me know what you guys think!
Enjoy!
Man that is my favorite shooter and you nailed it
That sounds awesome.

Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine
This is an alcoholic hop nightmare. It’s also the first beer I’ve tried aging, and that’s been a fun experiment. In addition to bottled, I just had it on tap a few weeks ago at Rochester’s recently opened Tap & Mallet. Sierra Nevada’s out of California, and is a very popular brewery so hopefully everyone interested will be able to find this.
Also, thanks to Doc Holiday’s kindness, I was able to try the Shiner Bohemian. This was very nice. A good balance between roasted, smoky flavors and a bit of floral bitterness. And super easy to drink. I wish this is the stuff that sports bars around here would carry instead of Labatt’s. I could see myself drinking a ton of these watching a game.
Does Michelob still make Amber Bock? I can't find it anywhere, though I've only been looking in ghetto ass Baltimore liquor stores that only carry 40s or occasionally Miller Lite.
Absolutely. I just saw a bunch of cases at the grocery store today. Not that you should need a fancy beer store to find any Anheuser-Busch stuff, but if you're still having trouble these are some stores I got off of beeradvocate. If any are close it'd be worth a look.
* Shawan Liquors - 11337 York Road, Hunt Valley
* Wells Discount Liquors - 6310 York Rd, Baltimore
* The Wine Source - 3601 Elm Avenue, Baltimore
* Beltway Fine Wine & Spirits - 8727 Loch Raven Blvd., Towson
* Jason's Liquors - 9339 Baltimore National Pike, Ellicott City

There are really only two gins that matter
Bombay and Beefeaters imo
* Shawan Liquors - 11337 York Road, Hunt Valley This place sounds frightening, in a white boy/ghetto kind of way
I'm getting this beer in the store on Monday. I don't care if the beer sucks, the bottle is fucking awesome.
lol!
IBTN
I'm on this tonight.
A buddy and I killed some nice stuff I had stashed away for a while when I was back in PA. '05 bottle of Three Philosophers, a bottle of DFH Chateau Jiahu from the first batch, and an '06 Double Bastard Ale. There was always something familiar about Chateau Jiahu that bugged me. We figured out what it was about the smell and the taste. It's vaguely reminiscent of Brass Monkey. That is, the "drink a 40 down to the label and fill it up with OJ" one. This is why I don't write beeradvocate reviews very much. Not likely that I will be able to pay $10+ for a bottle after this.
Now I'm back in my apartment where the fridge is always full of High Life. Kind of a step down.
sorry for not playing with the club for a while, I've been drinking without recommendation.
- job = shitty drinking.
tonight I'm indulging
If that's indulging, I don't want to know what you're going back to.
I'm looking to find a new "go-to" drink. Previously on the list were:
Gin/Tonic
Whiskey/Diet
Go-To drinks need to be easy/quick to make with few ingredients (who wants to stock all the stuff you need for a margarita?), versatile (who wants a margarita in January?), and tasty (!).
Gin/Tonic is too much of a "refreshing"/summer drink for year-round use and I'm tired of whiskey/diet.
Any help is appreciated.
vodka/lime
(or, more traditionally, gin/lime)
I'm a big fan of vodka and juices.
Lime juice? 1/1 or some other ratio? Will give it a shot.
More suggestions pls.
You can make it a bunch of ways, but generally it's 2:1, 3:1 or 4:1 vodka to sweetened lime depending on taste. Too much sweetened lime juice will make the drink WAY too sweet. I generally go with a ~3.5:1 ratio and a splash of pure lime juice. Try googling vodka gimlet.
(use sweetened lime juice, the best of the best is:
https://www.surfasonline.com/images/products/10520L.jpg
and sold at most all liquor stores)
Yeah, I've got half of a big bottle in the fridge. Buddy down the street's been slowly working his way through it (he only drinks margs and apparently hasn't bought his own yet).
Will use Platinum 7x Vodka. It's an American vodka made from corn. Exceedingly smooth and by far the best vodka I've ever had. Yet more proof that what you pay for is not always what you get ($11/bottle).
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/2...0750ml2ui9.jpg
Use gin. Vodka gimlet is lacking. 3:1 or 4:1 is good.
I haven't had a gimlet since I've started to enjoy gin, but I've always enjoyed a vodka gimlet. Maybe now that I appreciate gin I should give it another try.
Geez, did you do a Beer Draft?
Speaking of cheap beer. My roommate got a 12-pack of Miller Chill at the PX for $2. It's not very good (think a lime flavored Zima) but at $0.17 a bottle you can't complain.
yeah, I traded away the sixth pick, though.
Beer Drafts are soooo much fun. Did one last year where you had to have a "gold" at least two "silvers" and the rest could be whatever you want. I ended up with a 22oz Bass, a Newcastle Brown, an Oatmeal Stout, a can of Coors Light, a can of High Life, and an Elysian IPA (awesome beer from a Seattle microbrew).
A friend got stuck with, like, 4 different types of malt liquor, including a Mickey's grenade. lol
Elysian Beers
Winking Lizard Beer tour FTMFW, they have like 200 beers on tap that you must drink in a year. If you accomplish this task you get a plaque, a leather jacket, and the props of your fellow drinking buddies.

Brand, Thief, Mech, I do this downtown Cleveland, you guys should join up.
Also, anybody giving out drink recipes that include any of the following: Fruit Juice, Fruit, blenders, or any liquor that isn't brown or clear (except Bombay)...
Should ban themselves from this thread, fags.
Ahh, good old Winking Lizard. I usually go to the one on Coventry, but in the summertime its great to bike out to the one in Peninsula, its right off by the towpath.
That's my favorite Winking Lizard ever <3 Peninsula. If I'm in Coventry I go to Malloys, it's a better bar, or of course the Grog shop if somebody decent is playing. Last time I went they had Jay Mascis.
Malloy's is the fucking win on Sunday nights. Anything you want is $2, aside from a few of the more illustrious liquors. But any beer and mostly any mix drink or shot is two bucks. My friends and I get liquored up over there and then head down to bsides (under the grog) for their dance party every sunday night.
I know the DJ at Bsides, I've been there plenty. My last B-Day was partially spent there. The only problem is the ugly ass John Carroll chicks that bombard the place after 12 hoping somebody is drunk enough to fuck them.
Redhook sucks dick, always has, always will.
I don't like Redhook myself but it is incredibly seasonal. One year the winter may be awesome and the next it may suck. I don't know why.
It's the same with great lakes, they come out with some nasty shit from time to time, but their christmas ale is the best in the country. Also, one six pack and your wrecked.
Young's Double-Chocolate Stout.
Try it and love it.
Also like me some Delirium Nocturnum (tastes like blood!), Leinenhugel (tastes like Fruity Pebbles!), and for a light beer Kirin Ichiban.
For light beer it doesn't get any better than Amstel Light. Sam Adams Light is also very good.
Heineken Light imo.
It's delicious. (though i'll always take a Heineken over a Light)
Any type of Heinken is for skunky butthole licking fags.
The following is a Sam Adams hat I am wearing, good choice stormy
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...MyPictures.jpg
Big cans amirite?
For what Heinken or Sammy?
The babe.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ike/yappin.jpg
Only partial shot of the cans, but yes, big cans.
what babe?
That one, hater.
I'm 90% sure I've shit on better looking women than you have fell in love with, only 90% because you may have picked up some sweet bitches playing music.
I was quoting labyrinth. that chick there is fucking smokin. no hate.
Don't underestimate the restaurant industry either. Them's some horny girls.Quote:

IBTN,
Can I be a part time manager in your new club pls?
Why make it complicated? Things are much easier when you don't work with the girls imo. Honestly I can't wait until I get down there. As of right now I'm working my regular 60-70 hr per week job and spending every other waking moment designing a kitchen, planning meetings, working on a menu, finding and pricing equipment, ETC! Btw my beer taps are going to kick all kinds of ass.
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/2...wers203fq9.jpg
Cool look. What's the motif/style/gimmick of the place?
I had mentioned earlier about looking for a new drink. Been trying vodka w/club soda and a splash of lime juice. Nothing too original and I'm sure it's got a name but I'm soliciting TNL for name suggestions. Help? No goatse pls.
Hero's Neck
2 oz Blended Whiskey
Ginger Ale
Lemon Peel
Use JW Black
Spicy.
When are we getting new drink assignments?
New drink assignments coming this Friday.
putting down my recommendation for a drink and a beer.
drink - mimosa
beer - to come. have to go to the bar to get the name. it's got a snowman on the tap and has either whisky or brandy mixed in (can't remember)
mimosa is really only good for sunday hangovers at Put In Bay.
mimosas are great whenever you have the chance to drink them. do not front about that.
actully I have some champagne, gunna go make one right now.
Biff's right, mimosas are only good on Sunday mornings, preferably with brunch. Unless you're on vacation on some tropical isle and your cabana girl brings them to you every morning. Then knock yourself out.
I'm waiting on my buddy's recipe...he's being an ass.
shit sorry Cow. i got a pm saying to pick the next drink. my bad.
and double shit......i didn't mean Mimosa, i meant Mojito. my bad.
Mojitohttp://www.drinkstreet.com/pics/page/crnr.gif
2 ounces White Rum
http://www.drinkstreet.com/pics/fractions/12.gif ounce Lime Juice
1 teaspoon Sugar
6 whole Mint Leaf
2 ounces Soda Water
Put juice and sugar into a highball glass and stir until dissolved. Rub mint leaves on inside of the glass and discard. Fill with crushed ice and rum, stir. Top with soda water and garnish with a sprig of mint.
I've been drinking Hoegarrden at the pub recently. I was very excited to see it on tap. It's delicious and i'd never had it with a lemon in it before.
You can go ahead Dyne, I'll take the next cycle if you don't mind.
My buddy makes the most killer Mojito I've ever had, so I'm tracking that recipe down. Funny, it's another minty drink. Edit: Fuck, I thought that was a Mojito recipe. Stole my damn thunder.
I used to like Hoegarden and other white beers (Heifefizeeessfeifzen) but I dunno, I really don't like them now
I make mojitos all the time. Tip, use spiced rum instead of white rum. I also always throw in way more mint than they say, otherwise you really don't get the mintyness of a good mojito. One of the hardest things to get right is the amount of sugar. Sometimes I hit it just right but I still miss with a batch now and then. If you are making a big batch you want to whip up some simple syrup, which is just equal parts sugar and water dissolved in a pan on the stove. It's way easier than mixing the sugar into the cold drink. Most recipies call for it this way too.
Your recipe is wierd Dyne. I never had a mojito that didn't have the mint leaves in the glass. I have a muddler that I use. The first step is to muddle the mint leaves with the lime juice in the glass, then add ice, followed by rum, syrup, and soda.
Fat Tire is a good beer. Right now I'm having Karl Strauss Red Trolley. Some good local stuff.
I don't like Dyne's Mojito recipe. The mint leaves should be crushed in the bottom of the glass along with the sugar and a slice or two of lime (none of this lime juice bullshit, use real limes). Then the ice goes on top, and the rum and soda water are added, although I'd go with more rum and less soda water.
bbobb is right.
Mojitos require the mint, sugar, water, and limes being muddled together. Then add the ice, rum, and soda water.
But seriously, whoever doesn't live in FL and is drinking mojitos in January is fucked up.
A good mojito is probably my favorite cocktail, though i'm more of a beer/wine/shots man.
once again, it isn't MY recipe. i just pulled it off the net in case people didn't know what it was. to get the general idea.
i ordered one at a bar one time before knowing they didn't actually know what one was. then i explained it to the waiter thinking the bartender would understand it (still assuming they would get it right). when it came it was a green cough syrup color. i STILL should have known. well after i tasted it they said they used mint liquer instead of mint.
never do that people.
they're a very good anytime drink. i had several with breakfast when i visited some friends in Washington.
I completely forgot about Mojito's. I've been trying to think of a good drink to order when I go out. This will have to be my next order.
Brian: I didn't know there was going to be an open bar. And the guy really knew his stuff! He made me a mojito. I don't think it's a gay drink. Mo-ji-to...
Also, had some of this beer from the Hog Island Oyster Company when in San Francisco. Loved the stuff.
http://www.northcoastbrewing.com/Ima...dSeal-pour.jpg
I would not order a mojito anywhere that it's not specifically on the cocktail menu. They won't get it right.
truth. you might end up with this shit
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/7...itofullfo3.jpg
you're an idiot. you must be getting some old ass East Cost distro not selling/skunk cases then.
i've said this a number of times when it's come up. last years winter was nasty but this years was great (at least at the brewery itself).
i guess i'll put Sam Adams Winter as my beer pick to go along with Mojitos. i'll get the name of the other beer i wanted to put down at a later time.
Dyne stole both my picks.
I've got a fridge full of Winter.
We should hang out, play Rez, drink and watch hockey. Who knows what would happen?
So here's something for you guys to try, I know most of you have had Nihonshu (known as Sake in the US), but there's another alcohol in japan that is actually a bit more popular nowadays called Shochu. It comes from the kyushu region so it's pretty much all we drink around here (in a bar around here you'll often get mocked if you ask for nihonshu). Here's a Wikipedia with general info about it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sh%C5%8Dch%C5%AB
It's hard to describe the flavor as there's a lot of different types of it, but it's a clear alcohol with some similarities to vodka. It's best drank on the rocks or in the winter drank with hot water (be sure to add the shochu to the hot water and not vice versa, usually around 2 parts shochu to 1 part hot water).
Also I've discovered that Shochu is REALLY good mixed with japanese rice beer, usually a half and half mixture.
So if you guys can do it, try to find an asian liquor store or supermarket that carries shochu (I'm betting there's somewhere in NY that has some). I can't really recommend a brand for you, since there's a TON of them, just try to ask for some that was brewed in Kyushu. Shochu made in other parts of Japan just doesn't compare.
Also, be warned, Soju, the Korean liquor is not the same thing as Shochu.
Edit: looking around a bit it looks like Astor Wines & Spirits has some Shochu, mostly suntory stuff though which is not going to be as good as real homegrown kyushu shochu. The Kuro no Maru stuff they have is allright though.
Oh nevermind. I've had Soju but I guess not Shochu.
I'm pretty sure they taste similar though.Quote:
Unlike many other beverages, shochu is made from one of several raw materials. These include sweet potato, and shochu made from these is called "imo-jochu." Other materials commonly used include from rice, soba (buckwheat), and barley. There is even one island where there a few places that make shochu from brown sugar. It can also be made from more obscure things like chestnuts and other grains.
