Street View. I can't find it in the mobile version of Google Maps. I LOVE Street View.
It also ran better and was integrated with other apps.

Did anyone really go into this expecting Apple Maps > Google Maps at launch? I didn't. I might upgrade. I'm on the fence with my iPhone 4 (not 4S).
Ah, I think you're right about street view. I guess that's a drag.
I'm on the fence also for the 5. Right now I can't justify $300 for a phone when my 4 works just fine.
Wait for next year. I wouldn't upgrade from a 4 just yet.
Seconded. The 4 is still an excellent phone. Unless you have a serious hardware issue (screen cracks, terribly degraded battery, etc.), it would be better to wait for the 5S XL Pro.
noob.
Hey, you can totally sell that as brand new on craigslist!
With app launching and sports scores, Siri is way more useful now.
Anyone who buys this does not deserve to breath

Holy shit. I was going to comment that it might be good for ergonomics until I saw the price.
Yea. It's actually quite robust. Ask for records, player stats, standings, scores, upcoming games - it's really nice. I even asked Siri who is going to the baseball playoffs and it got me one list for each league.
I'm not sure that death is the appropriate punishment there though...
you could use two books or a brick to do the same thing.
Who thinks "man, I have so many things in my house that I could use to stand this monitor on, but I think I'll spend 79 bucks on this little metal tube. "
It would probably be cheaper to actually wipe your ass with one dollar bills.
Or just stack one dollar bills and sit the monitor on that.
I dunno, why do you buy figurines?
I'm mean it does match the look of the iMac and has a spot for the stand to slide into place.
The price is pretty absurd but its not like a specialized riser is a unheard of product.
It isn't specialized.
That s a standard section of square tubing. They sell that shit to build electronics in or run wire in for buildings.
This is pretty much like someone going down to home depo, buying a light switch box and then trying to resell it to you for 80. The only thing they built was the front lid by CNCing a bit of 1/8 sheet aluminum.
Well, customers will decide on whether or not the front lid is worth the cost. That's kind of how a market works.
They could stick an external hard drive, or a USB hub, or whatever inside and charge $200 for it.
I seriously can't organize a photo album on my iPad without buying a third party app?
What in the fuck is this.
Yes, you can take photos from your camera roll and add them to albums. That's not what I'm talking about.
Once you're in an album you can't change the order. Also if you've added the photos from a computer via itunes, you can't even delete them.
It's mind boggling how this is even real.
And upon closer inspection I guess the problem is only for photos added from a computer? Because Apple only lets you add the photos by "syncing" to a folder through iTunes, and therefore doesn't let you change their properties or something? And of course it doesn't sort the imported photos by name, it does it by date modified unless you use iPhoto on a mac?
I'm sorry but this shit is unacceptable. All I wanted to do was add a bunch of photos to the thing and let people look at a slide show in chronological order and it was literally impossible without a third party app. That's seriously embarrassing.
Not if it wasn't made for mac.
That would be unthinkable.
You could but I would never recommend using a valuable piece of hardware not designed to prop something up, to prop something up.Quote:
you could set the monitor on top of the external hard drive
But I also don't recommend dropping $70 on something you can find a better fabrication for cheaper. Granted I also don't care that much about how my set up looks.
Concrete blocks + planks of wood = shelves + giant plastic buckets = dresser
You could make a bed out of this shit if you had some hay.
why the fuck would you even bother with anything else
Finch should host a college dorm interior design show.
What the fuck is Apple doing announcing another new full size iPad six months after the 3rd gen launched? I'd be pissed as hell if I bought one of those.
MAD.
I haven't had time to outgrow my 3rd gen iPad, I'm effectively ignoring this update.
It's pretty shitty that it's so soon but being so close to the release of the surface it's not surprising. Also I'm sure the design-philosophy gurus at Apple were about to have an aneurysm over not having an iPhone + iPad combo with the same connector on the market.
That's probably part of it, but the A6X with its die shrink is a legitimately good upgrade to the thing in terms of heat output and performance. Hell they probably wanted to get the A6 (at least) on the iPad 3 in the first place.
I wouldn't mind a new iPad. Still using the original. No problem with Apple releasing new upgrades. Nobody is making you buy them. Don't Android users see better hardware every few months too?
Big deal.
BTW: I've been using Apple Maps a lot lately and its served me well. The GPS makes it far more useful and it's been much better than the Garmin I've used. The business data has also improved rapidly. Overblown hysteria imo.
Also, BTW, TNL'ers really are getting old if they're bitching about newer/better technology/products coming out too quickly. ;)
I've only used Apple Maps for places around here that I already know just to test it (haven't had to go anywhere that I'm unfamiliar with yet) and it's worked great so far.
Waze continues to improve. If you need deeper than Apple Maps, it's the one.
So I sold my original IPad and my wife's old 3GS for way more than I thought I would get. It's amazing how Apple products hold value. Put them on a local buy and sell website. Screw store credit somewhere.
It's easy to resell apple stuff because they recycle the same product designs for several years, so their stuff just doesn't look old.
Just by looking at the physical casing, I can barely tell a 2012 Mac Pro from a G5 PowerMac, for example.
They also remain viable for a long time. Most PC laptops start to fall apart after a year but the 2009 MBP I use still looks and runs great.
Ive had my Tosh Satellite for five years. Still works great.
So, I tried syncing my iphone with the songs I had checked off in iTunes (PC) and nothing happened. Any thoughts on how I can transfer the songs from my PC to the phone?
use winamp

While it doesn't seem fast and responsive enough to be practical, that's pretty cool.
My fiancee just got the iPhone 5. It's better than I thought.
I just want to give another shout out to iCloud though. We were literally up and running with the phone in 10 minutes, plus whatever time it took to download all her apps. The only thing we needed to re-enter was her Yahoo mail account. This is how it should be.
iTunes 11 is out and it's a pretty solid update from what I can see. They redid the entire interface. They still have the list, but have a bunch of cool and useful ones like artist view (like iOS, but with the artist list as a sidebar) and a cool album view that expands out right when you click on it.
I'm seeing people on Apple sites complaining that they took out CoverFlow. CoverFlow. Fucking hell.
Fuck CoverFlow so much. I'm updating now.
lol Coverflow, so useless.
I hate coverflow. Now they just need to get it the fuck out of OS X and we'll talk.
I like that now I can see the upcoming music and can change it on the fly.
I like it for viewing/organizing my 30 Wii games that are stored on an external hard drive.
1,698 albums of music? Yeah get the fuck outta here.
I wish the bar that told you how many songs you have, and the size was still there. That shit was useful.
That too, yeah.
I got down and fucked with the new iTunes for a bit today. I figured out how to bring the sidebar back, and now I love it.
Finally bought an iPhone. Noob question: Is there anything besides an Otter Box worth my time? The phone needs to fit in my pocket.
I had a pretty bitchin Hello Kitty case that saved my phone when it bounced down the stairs from the 3rd floor to the basement. It was $10. 3rd party cases are mostly the same unless you're looking to throw your phone against a brick wall all day and all of the night.
IMO anyway.
View-> Show Status Bar on Windows, something similar on OSX.
Click "sidebar"
I don't remember exactly where, but its one menu deep.
After about five seconds of consideration, I decided on this one.
In order to get free shipping, I added on these headphones to accompany. Super stoked, I haven't had good cans since my old SR-60s disintegrated after a few years of abuse.
A fine case. I've never used those headphones, let me know how they are when they show up pls.
I used to have a pair of Grado SR-60s years ago. To this day, the sound quality was the best I've ever heard for the price. The only downside for some is that they're supra-aural.
I had a pair of SR-60's a few years ago as well. I wore them so much that I wore them out. The sound quality is amazing compared to anything else that I have heard, although I don't know a lot of people with high-end cans for a comparison. The open-ear design makes them sound a lot less like headphones, imo. I also like that the cups rotate, so that they can be placed flat inside of a backpack.
Ive got to make a little instructional video for one of my classes. What's a good video editing app for iphone/ipad? All i am looking for feature wise are the abilities to edit, add titles, and add sound separately.
iMovie?
That was my first inclination, but in reading the reviews it seemed you cant replace the audio. Lies?
I haven't listened to a lot of headphones, but I do know that these are simply a joy. If these are chicken stock, most headphones I listen to are bullion cubes. There is a lot of noise bleed, though. They're probably louder on the outside of the ear cups than the inside, honestly.
Google Maps is baaaaaaaack on iOS6
This is old news, but XLD is the best damn audio conversion tool I've ever used.
Apparently after the ending of Final Fantasy IV for iOS, a message shows up about Final Fantasy V will be released. I've only played through the GBA version but a 3D version similar to III and IV will make me jump on buying it again
I thought this was the game thread, fail
So I have an iPad. Do I have to rebuy the apps I want on it from my iPhone or can I transfer them from iTunes?
iTunes or iCloud.
Naturally some apps might have you buy them a second time in HD to better suit your iPad.
Just go to the App Store on your iPad, go to the Purchased section, and you can see what iPad apps you already own (often companies sell universal binaries that are fitted for both).
Non-universal binaries (angry birds, etc) can suck ten million cocks.
Is there no way to force iPhone/iPod binaries to run on iPad?
it runs them. you can choose original size, or 2x stretched.
I realize this is pathetic, but I am actually excited by the potential for colored iPhones.
I'll be getting a pink one. Fuck yes.
Look at this shit.
Attachment 68472
Since this happened I haven't been able to sync my apps or podcasts, even when connected via USB. The "sync over wifi" option is greyed out.
What is going on here?
Looks like it just doesn't work any more.
Helpful.
try nuking it from orbit.
This board needs an enema.
